I was low on this game as a simple Dynasty Warriors spin off but Good Lord this game! I'm mobile right now  so I can't link the  New photos but when I get home. I'm not expecting a "real" Zelda game but this is looking most promising! I'm also surprised there isn't already a discussion topic about this here but no worries we'll get that done now.

Nor did I my friend but this is co developed by TEAM ninja and supervised by Aonuma himself. I think that legitimizes the title just a bit more. I understand your trepidation, its warranted.

This game now has two of the worst developers in Japan joining forces: Techmo-Koei and Team Ninja. What could POSSIBLY go wrong?!

Granted, the stills look good from a pure graphical standpoint, but at this point I have no faith that this will be any good. I dunno, maybe Aonuma will pull this one out, but it has a lot to prove.

I can't tell if the first three screenshots are in-game models or not. If they are, that's a marked improvement over what they showed in December.

I was going to say that Shia's excessive cleavage seems out of place in a Zelda game then I remembered Veran from Oracle of Ages. As you were, busty sorceresses.

If I know my classic movies, sounds like Nintendo's got a hit on their hands just like Max Bialystock from The Producers. "How could this happen? I was so careful. I picked the wrong play, the wrong director, the wrong cast. Where did I go right?"

Can't believe there isn't a clip of that on Youtube. Way to fail, internet.

So according to this translation, the story of the game is Shia was once a good witch who has the hots for Link but because he spends all his time with Zelda, she became jealous which allowed a sealed evil to take over her and that's why she kidnaps Zelda.

Well I guess thats something original for a Zelda game.  Instead of the villain being evil just because they want power, Shia just wants Links cock.  Can't wait to see where in the timeline Aonuma puts this one. :P:

I'm looking forward to this.  I haven't played a Dynasty Warriors game since playing one with a roommate back in about 2006.  Not a series I'd want to play many games of but having not played one in almost ten years and adding in the Zelda world, I'm intrigued.  The screenshots look good, hopefully that's an indication of what the game will actually look like.

" ZELDA (2015) is the game we deserve but not the one we need right now. So we'll play Hyrule Warriors because it looks fun. Because sometimes, people just want swords and tits."

Also for some reason I believe Nintendo will attempt to make this game canon in some way. Even if its just a collection of the implied battles through out the Historia. " But there are other legends, long hidden away from memory, that are intertwined with this tale"

The Battle of Hylia & Demise.
The Imprisoning War.
The Civil War of Hyrule
The Unsealed Demon (implied battle 100 years after OOT in the WW intro)

These also allow to play the bad guys since ganon wins at least one version of these battles.

Dynasty Warriors never interested me before and putting in Link and boobs isn't going to convince me otherwise.  I'm not really interested in the Zelda characters because they're not very well developed.  I like Zelda's gameplay and this isn't going to have that.

I thought Soul Calibur II with Link was cool and all but for me the real appeal was Soul Calibur on the Gamecube.  Link being in it was just a bonus.  But if I wasn't already interested, Link wouldn't have sold me on it because Soul Calibur clearly doesn't play like Zelda.  This is the same idea.  If they made a Nintendo themed Candy Crush Saga would you suddenly become interested in that?  Are you a Zelda fan because of the gameplay or because it stars an incredibly generic looking elf character with no personality in some convoluted timeline that makes no sense?

Oh and Link looks kind of like a girl in those screenshots.  He's certainly more "pretty" than usual.

In some cases, sure. You can play regular Tetris or you can play Tetris with Nintendo themes on Nintendo DS. You can play Puyo Puyo on its own with generic anime type characters or you can play it as Kirby's Avalanche with Kirby characters or Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine with Sonic characters. You can play Dance Dance Revolution on its own or you can play it with Mario characters and songs in Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix.

There's nothing wrong with aesthetic skins on other games. Sure, it might not be a traditional Kirby or Mario game but the game that they have been grafted onto can still be fun and it may be the way to get you to try a series you might not have done so previously. Even if you like the game already on its own, blending it with other elements from another game you like shouldn't make it less fun.

I've never played a Dynasty Warriors game before but then I can't recall it ever being on a Nintendo console before. So, I'm intrigued by it. I'm still not sold on it and would like to see more footage and feedback on it but it has done its job of getting people to notice the game/franchise that might not normally pay attention to it. And with the 3rd party problems of Nintendo being documented, it's probably a smart choice for a 3rd party to graft a Nintendo franchise onto their game as the userbase is clearly more inclined to select or choose games involving Nintendo franchises.

To be fair that game is a lot different then the other DDR games.  Being a veteran of most DDR games I like Mario Mix quiet a bit for being more laid back and the story mode actually being entertaining.

Then more reason to like and list that example. It can also cause the gameplay and game to change up its format a bit to better incorporate the theme its using. With Hyrule Warriors, they've mentioned how they are planning to incorporate Link's spin attack so there is already a sign that this fusion could bring about something interesting or a bit different from a regular Dynasty Warriors game.

It could be likened to the forum Mafia games we play here. Sometimes the games can stay pretty similiar and sometimes the formula can be changed up significantly depending on how people want to incorporate the theme. Plus, some themes can be more popular than others and cause more people to join in and play a round.

Part of the major appeal to the Warrior games is the ability to play as a ton of different characters, each with their own fighting styles and weapons.  As others have said, the Warrior games are pretty much modern day Beat-em-ups and part of the appeal to these games, especially the ones based on license products is being able to play as one of your favorite characters.  Link might not have personality but other characters do and this game will finally allow Zelda fans to play as these other characters in the Zelda universe.

I want a scruffy looking Nerf herder Link with a beard like future King Samurai Jack. This Link at least has a more manly schnoz in that one pic. Not like MJ skyward Sword link.

Game also looks like a prequel. Shows what looks like the ascendant of skyloft and this Link looks like manga link from Hyrule Historian.

See, it was the exact opposite for me. I rarely cared about games and series that were not on a Nintendo system back then and Link's inclusion was the catalyst that got me interested in the game and lead to my purchase. The game them made me a Soul Calibur fan on it's own where I would buy an SC game without Link in it.

So it can bring in new fans. Namco just blew it by ditching Nintendo systems for a money hat despite the GC version selling the best on of the big three at the time.

I tried a Dynasty Warriors game once, I think for PS2. I remember thinking "This is kind of fun, but the draw distance sucks." So, add Link and better hardware and I wouldn't mind playing this. I'm not expecting it to blow my mind and I may wait for a deal on the game somewhere down the line, but I'd rather this game exist than not exist.

It is certainly possible, since it would seem the last Dynasty Warriors game had online play, but I'm not counting on it. I would think that if it had online then it would have been mentioned along with the co-op, though I guess they could be saving it for when the rest of the details are revealed.

No one is talking about the new details revealed for the game. Agitha, the bug lady in Twilight Princess, is a confirmed playable character, which is awesome as she has such a following and fans have been clamouring for her return. As well, there is a new character creation revealed on the box art who is assumed to be a Princess Lana announced as a playable character in the game also, which is great because she's been the most demanded character for the game out of the whole Zelda universe.

So, there's that.

Seems to be a lot of Twilight influence on this game combined with Ocarina of Time.

As someone who loves Zelda and loves the nods they've given in the gameplay, and someone who hasn't exhausted himself on the Warriors series, I am optimistic for this title. I know the gameplay is repetitive but they seem to have thrown in item-nabbing, boss monsters, and L targeting pretty well. I don't get why people are tagging on the game.

I've heard from DW fans that if you play them on the harder difficulties the games aren't as repetitive because the normal enemies actually fight back so you have to actually have some skill now instead of just mindlessly mashing attack over and over like on the lower difficulties.

I've never played a game for the series so I don't know if this is true or not, but that's what the hardcore fans of the series always say.

Finding the bonus items add some replay value and was kinda fun. If it is set up like DW5, then each character should have their own story progression. That is kinda how I hope they do it since it was fun to see everything from a different perspective. And there was variety in objectives. I'm basing this mostly off of DW5 because I played the **** out of it and absolutely loved the damn game. DW4 was mediocre at best and character creation was awful.

I find that the biggest problem with DW is its so many games in the series and the gameplay doesn't change too much. However if this is going to be the first DW type game you play then I do believe you're in for quite a treat. The fan service alone may be worth it for some Zelda fans, me included.

That isn't split screen multiplayer. That's separate screen multiplayer. I've seen it before. I don't really like it, especially as the only option.

You're right about the online co-op. I misread that. I don't really understand why there would be online multiplayer without a co-op campaign. That's the entire point of the game. I guess a versus mode might be fun (if that makes it in), but it sure would have been nice if the campaign had online co-op.

I don't recall seeing a good-Cia render, but I won't be surprised when Cia predictably reverts from her evil-sexy witch form at the end and wears something more modest. There seems to be a really weird and lazy trend in anime and video games where female characters shed clothes when they get possessed or corrupted. "I'm evil now! Tits! Literally."

The game has been released to an expected critical reception. It's still a repetitive Dynasty Warriors game, but the Zelda veneer makes it palatable.

From TGS 2014, Koei Tecmo has detailed future updates and premium DLC:
There are also four upcoming DLC packs. Here’s what they’ll include:

The “Backdoor†Hyrule Warriors pack: a new weapon, new scenario, an adventure map, and two costumes. Will release on October 16, 2014 for 1,200 yen.

Twilight Princess pack: a new character, a weapon, an adventure map, and two costumes. Will release in late-November for 1,200 yen.

Majora’s Mask pack: two new characters, an adventure map, and three costumes. Will release in January 2015 for 1,200 yen.

Ganon pack: two new game modes. Will release in February 2015 for 500 yen.

Read more at http://www.siliconera.com/2014/09/18/hyrule-warriors-update-makes-games-main-villains-playable/#AHaPHQcUYgGQA0qy.99

Also, the antagonists Cia, Volga, and Wizzro will be playable in a free update.

Combined, the DLC packs total 4100 yen (US$37.73). For reference, the game costs 7,389 yen (US$68.06). Given history of Warriors games being stuffed with content, this DLC offering is quite pricey. Hyrule Warriors looks to be made from scratch (something that Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors don't look like they could say), so there is an argument to be made of how this DLC is possibly not a trivial effort. I'm curious as to how the pricing will work out in the rest of the world.

Yikes. If the price is anywhere near that, I'll pass since I'm not even sold on the game itself. I mean, I was because of playable Midna, but some subsequent announcements soured me on getting the game at or near its release date.

Additionally, the recent Mario Kart 8 DLC spoiled me. $12 for 16 tracks and some extras was an easy choice. That a bunch of content for a low price in a game I at least like in theory (yet makes me say some truly awful things). Nearly $40 worth of DLC for a game I'm only mildly interested in because it's Zelda is also an easy choice, just not the one Nintendo wants. It would help if Koei Tecmo patched in real split-screen, but that's doubtful.

3 adventure maps, 1 scenario, 2 new game modes. I'm interested in the new scenario, less interested in the adventure maps, and I have no idea what to think of the game modes. It'll probably be something like slaughter so many enemies or something.

Nintendo of America has revealed pricing on the Hyrule Warriors DLC:
4 packs of paid DLC are coming to #HyruleWarriors. Buy a season pass for $19.99 & receive a bonus Dark Link costume.

$19.99 is a reasonable price for what I see amounts to an old-school expansion pack. Sad to see Japan continually getting the short end with prices.

A much better price. I still want to try the game first to see how I dig it, but I'm more open to the DLC now.

I blame the publishers. In Japan, it's Tecmo-Koei, who never met a transaction they couldn't micro. The rest of the world has Nintendo, who for the most part are new to this whole thing and actually understand a fair price makes your product more attractive.

Yeah, the DLC stuff is pretty disappointing to see. It seems expensive for what it is, and some of it's releasing so early that it's tough to not question why it isn't in the game already. But to be fair, I wasn't very interested in this game to begin with, as I'm not sure if it's a style of game that I like. I wasn't going to be getting it at launch, and now I'm not sure if I'll even go for it on sale.

Trailer for Cia:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76MAZVdo3OU

Whips, familiars, and lazers.

http://www.gamecity.ne.jp/zelda/update.html

Also some information on the DLC from NeoGAF ( http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=903998 ):
Quote
Additional Scenario: The Black Witch Cia
The story of the Black Witch, Cia that went untold in the original tale.
Chronicles five stories that occur in tandem with the original story, including her meeting with Valga and Wizro as well as her approach on Hyrule Castle.
What is waiting fer her at the end of this tale...

Additional Adventure Map: Master Quest Adventure Map
Adventure mode gets a new challenge-style map.
Adds 'Master Quest' rules from not being able to heal, to not being able to use items.
You can discover Cia, Valga, and Wizro's higher rank weapons as your reward.
There's also other new ranks of weapons as well as 'Master Quest' style rewards to be found.

The first pack includes the Epona weapon for Link and white sorceress costumes for Lana and Cia.

-----
The additional scenario seems to be five missions that don't have any new environments. The new Adventure map is just a new set of challenges to grind. So, if you want to be reductive, most of your DLC money is going towards Epona. The new costumes for Lana and Cia do look nice, though.

As I play through the game the DLC seems priced well for what you get.  I'm always wary of DLC announced so quickly but there is enough content in the game as sold that I don't feel like I'm being cheated or if something was pulled from the game. If the game wasn't already satisfying on the content front I'd certainly feel differently. So I'll be picking it up the pack as I've been enjoying the game a LOT.

I think Hyrule Warriors has managed to potentially make a musou fan out of me. I'm certainly willing to try out another game like this going forward. That is if one gets release don the Wii U or 3DS going forward or I come across something cheap on the PS3 or PC.

I haven't opened my copy yet. The main reason I was excited for Hyrule Warriors was Imp Midna so I'm glad she wasn't DLC. Before shelling out any amount of money for DLC, I want to see how much I actually enjoy the game. I'd imagine new stages would be what I'd be most interested in though Twili Midna certainly is an attractive incentive in addition to the stages.

I finally put some time into Hyrule Warriors last night when my brother stopped by. A few thoughts:

I'll probably never play this game alone. It didn't seem fun enough to do so. As a co-op game, it's pretty good. Not great, but definitely not bad.

The camera is pretty awful. Centering the camera behind your character works in regular Zelda games because they're typically pretty slow. An action game as fast as Hyrule Warriors could stand to have a much smarter camera. The only thing preventing this from being stupidly annoying is the fact that thus far, the enemies don't really do much.

The game moves so fast at times, causing the camera to "bounce" (particularly when running) that it creates the same problem I have with first person shooters. I get that headache where it hurts behind my eyes. The difference is that once I stop and start slashing at enemies, I don't really have to worry about it. Since the game is mostly about mowing through enemies, I can deal.

I got as far as the part where the party splits before I called it a night. My brother played Adventure Mode until he couldn't advance any further then forged ahead in the story mode, unlocking the character I really wanted (no points awarded for guessing who). Each stage takes a decent amount of time to complete, much longer than I expected. I consider this a good thing. With four announced DLC packs, I was a bit worried that the game was short on content. Thus far, this does not seem to be the case.

Nintendo/Koei Tecmo are really trying the whole "Who is Sheik?" reveal. Okay. It isn't like Zelda was playing a harp in the middle of Hyrule Field in the opening cinematic (inexplicably) or anything... Or that everyone knows who Sheik is. Unless they go in a completely different direction, this is the weakest plot twist since Sheik's reveal in Ocarina of Time.

The lack of voice acting during gameplay is annoying and baffling. I'm supposed to stop and read in the middle of the game. Get the **** out of here. Link still doesn't even talk since they gave him another fairy. It also doesn't make sense in this game because the whole Link-is-an-avatar-for-the-player thing doesn't apply since there are multiple playable characters. Even more bizarre is the voice narration. While I'd prefer voice acting all around, if given the choice, I'd rather read between stages when I'm not doing anything else than have text block my screen and while trying to glance between gameplay and text. Why is this even a thing? If Nintendo is going to change the series this much, to the point where it's barely a Zelda game anymore, stop holding onto old series tropes.

Ultimately, I'm not disappointed. Hyrule Warriors lacks polish which is strange for a Nintendo game (especially Zelda) but not for a Koei Tecmo game. I'm considering the DLC packs, but I'll see how far I get tonight. I read that you can buy all the packs together at a discount.
