Nintendo Gaming / All Star Baseball 2004 Discussion
« on: March 11, 2003, 10:37:43 AM »
I wouldn't know, yet! I ordered the game weeks ago from Sam Goody, and it's backordered. Very frustrating. Spring Training games are going on as I type this and I can't play on the Cube! If they don't get it to me before Opening Day I'll be a mad mad customer.

Nintendo Gaming / Game Boy Player Questions
« on: March 07, 2003, 04:55:23 AM »
What about the picture? This may be a simple question, but do the games look any better? Is the GBA screen limiting, in the sense that the games look better when presented on a better screen? Or do they look worse, becuase the image flaws are magnified?

Nintendo Gaming / GTA: Would it sell?
« on: March 06, 2003, 11:09:33 AM »
Didn't Miyamoto recently say something about how his goal is to have games where anyone can pick them up and have fun instantly. Seems like GTA achieves that, only it's not for everyone, as Nintendo produced games aim to be. Mario Kart games, one of the best for pick up and play, are loved by "casual" and "hard-core" gamers alike. Personally, I haven't bought ED because, regardless how good everyone says it is, I don't want to "invest" hours before the game pays off. I guess that makes me a casual gamer, but I want my gaming time to be enjoyable, not work. And in that, with it's mayhem options, in addition to its story focus, is where GTA excels, and why it would do well on any next gen. system.

TalkBack / EA To Focus More on GBA-GC Connectivity
« on: March 06, 2003, 10:16:46 AM »
20 EA Sports titles for GameCube. That sounds great. How many were there last year? And good points about online, but not everyone that has a system has another, or is online.

Nintendo Gaming / Europe GBA SP Ad
« on: March 05, 2003, 09:51:59 AM »
I think the ad is pure genius. It's well done, and hits exactly what many Nintendo fans are claiming the company has missed: adult gamers. Of course this wouldn't run in a kids magazine, but that's the point!

Nintendo Gaming / Wario Ware
« on: March 03, 2003, 10:59:22 AM »
I was excited about the game from the first, but was not sure if I would like the five second length of the mini games. My question therefore for you is... Are they fun after the fifth time? If so, then this game, what with 200+ micro games, will be amazing. But is it aggravating to only get a few seconds with the games?

Nintendo Gaming / monkey ball jr
« on: March 03, 2003, 05:14:35 AM »
"A little from column A, a little from column B." Despite the great reviews of monkey ball jr. I wasn't all that impressed. There were levels that were very difficult to manage because of the d-pad. I kept wishing I had a Game Boy player and the analog stick. That said, the graphics are impressive, mini games are still fun, etc. If you enjoy monkey ball on GCN and have an extra $30 and play away from home a lot, go for it. If I could do it over again, I would have used the money for something different.

Nintendo Gaming / Tilt Sensors...
« on: March 03, 2003, 04:24:41 AM »
My understanding was that (and of course I can't remember where I read this) Tilt & Tumble was the only game that would not be compatible with GBASP. Didn't Nintendo announce this?

TalkBack / DigiPen Profiled in Rolling Stone Magazine
« on: February 27, 2003, 07:24:38 AM »
As someone with a career in PR (book publishing), I have a few comments on Rolling Stone for those of you upset with the article, and for Jonathan and his defense. True, RS is a respected publication with a history of quality reportage. You are absolutely correct on that point. However, in the past few months since RS acquired a new Editor-in-Chief, the magazine has followed a general downward trend. In attempts to compete with Maxim, they have shortened articles and reviews, added more boxed texts and lists, and generally lowered their own standards. They had a lot of trouble recently over an article on homosexual men who apparently try to get AIDS, or try to give people AIDS. People were misquoted and figures were outrageously inflated. They took a lot of heat over this article, which they should have, as it didn't meet their reputation, even if some of it was based on truth.

In another recent article, a cover article on Justin Timberlake, the writer went (in one paragraph) from discussing his childhood to asking him how frequently he masturbates. Simply put, the magazine is trying to make itself more salacious, hence perhaps that thing on "furry sex" was included. In defense of the journalist though, if someone mentioned it and fact-checkers cleared the point, then he should feel free to write whatever he likes.

Nintendo Gaming / Eternal Darkness $20 at Bestbuy.(Post good deals here)
« on: February 26, 2003, 11:32:02 AM »
Sam Goody has a deal right now where if you buy two items you get 10% off and free shipping. Also, if you use "849" as a promo code (through 2/28) you can save an extra $5 on any order over $30. What a deal!

I bought a 251 mem. card (19.99) and All Star Baseball 2004 (only 39.99). After rebates and discounts both came in at less than $50. They have a bunch of sports games listed as $9.99 but most seemed to be out of stock. Worth checking out though. Oh, and they had ED for $20.

Nintendo Gaming / The Good News
« on: February 25, 2003, 08:26:55 AM »
A great point. Personally I couldn't care less if Sony or Microsoft have sold more consoles so long as Nintendo isn't going under (clearly they aren't), and so long as great games continue to come out for the GameCube (clearly they are). I think it would be a safe argument to make that GameCube more than holds its own as far as quality of games, which, to the gamer not the businessman, is far more important. Would it be nice to play Grand Theft Auto on GameCube? Of course! But there are a lot of PS2 owners who don't care that they "are winning" when they can't play Zelda or Metroid.

Nintendo Gaming / Anyone else get ther GBA SP yet?
« on: February 13, 2003, 05:05:42 AM »
I haven't gotten one yet, and I'm not sure if I will. Aside from apperances, since you've been able to play it for a while, do you think it's worth the money just to upgrade for the backlight and the battery pack? My gaming budget is limited and I think I, like a lot of people, may just buy games instead.

Nintendo Gaming / GBA deals?
« on: February 13, 2003, 04:56:43 AM »
After seeing other deal posts on this and other websites, I thought it would be great if we had one for Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and GBA games. This is all I've got at this point from my own personal purchases:

TextKarnaaj Rally, $10 at EB and EBGames.com
Definitely worth the money. I saw the great reviews this got and was surprised at the price. But the name, and packaging, really stink. The game, however, is a lot of fun.

Nintendo Gaming / Problem with Kirby game...seriously...

I've seen it at a Toys R Us and a Best Buy (for $25), both in NYC (this past weekend). Good luck finding one.

Never mind. Piracy reigns, or at least exists for GBA:

Nintendo Gaming / No instructions and no box.... hmmmmm.
« on: February 11, 2003, 07:51:34 AM »
I see. All great points, and reason enough to think that they're probably not illegal copies. Personally, it doesn't bother me if there is no box or manual, since I can find answers to any manualish questions online. When it comes down to it, I'm not willing to spend an extra $5, or whatever it is, just for the manual. More money for another game!

Nintendo Gaming / No instructions and no box.... hmmmmm.
« on: February 11, 2003, 06:35:58 AM »
Does anyone else find it curious that a lot of the used games listed on-line are sold without instructions and/or boxes? I buy used games a lot on-line but have wondered if people are making pirated copies, especially after someone I bought games from on ebay was shut down by the site. When I buy new games I keep everything. Don't you? Is this/has this ever been a problem with nintendo's cartidges?

Nintendo Gaming / Grand Theft Auto 3 -- is it dead?
« on: February 07, 2003, 12:35:03 PM »
Thanks!!!! I guess it's probably better that GTA3 is dead, since any clone of the idea has be better without the name alone to boost sales. I hadn't heard of Payback so I did a quick search and found the video on the Apex-Designs site. The game looks really great! Thanks again!

Nintendo Gaming / Grand Theft Auto 3 -- is it dead?
« on: February 07, 2003, 11:26:27 AM »
Grand Theft Auto 3 for GBA is still on release lists and still mentioned for preorders. What gives? If this title is not dead, is it delayed? If it's not dead or delayed, is there ANY information available? Help!
