It's like the developers are saying Capcom will hold Megaman back and he will never be as big as a Nintendo franchise. It is kind of sad and unnerving that this could be real.


Let me start a rumor. Despite this being Sony exclusive, this is some kind of hint at a Nintendo, Capcom, Megaman collaboration. First up is a "real" Megaman game everyone is crying about and then, Smash Bros!

Capcom is kicking itself in the nuts again and again.  12 characters on disc and they lock it to make you pay for it later, so instead of the complete game you'll get 2/3 of it for the inital costs. 

One thing to have DLC on disc as a preorder bonus but forking money over just to get it unlocked?  What's next paying to unlock endings?

I played SFxT all night. Honestly, it takes months to feel out a fighting game (I think) but if you really want to try to squeeze an initial impression out of me, it's not good

Play time: like half an hour of training and ~6 hours of versus mode with my pals. I tried a bunch of characters but mostly stuck with Rolento & Raven

Don't like
- still uses the bad kind of button config
- timer doesn't freeze during supers. I think other games have shown it's smarter to have the timer stop during long super move animations...
- gem loadout takes an extraordinarily long time and the defaults only have two of the three gem slots filled, which is dumb since there is literally no downside to having the basic gems (a few of them have some trade-offs). And just playing without gems requires a lot of time to make a no-gem loadout! For each character!!
- throw range is hilariously short. Some characters can work around it with the charge cancel and dash in but I'm not sure all of them can. For example, Rolento's forward dash seems really bad so I'm not sure how to open someone up who just blocks/pokes. Maybe I'll figure out good setups when I get some time with it at home.
- I kept wanting to short jump and super jump and I guess I was kind of disappointed that they weren't there... I've been playing a lot of KOF lately I guess. Which is really good! I guess what I mean is maybe it's a little too simple? It would be nice if there were more little systems like that in place, for more options...
- and you know, all the stuff about the fraudulent dlc

My friend was complaining about a general lack of anti-air moves, which apparently was something Capcom deliberately did to make jump ins better for some reason. I dunno how I feel about this.

Things I like
+ character roster is pretty good
+ backgrounds and music are hype
+ seems well suited for four player (I just played regular mode though, no scramble mode)

But you know, first impressions and all that, I might love it next month, but some of the things they've done just seem so dumb. Fans have been complaining about stuff like the button config forever and it's like they just don't listen at all.

I played a little bit online today, the netplay seems amazingly good - I think it's actually using rollback based netcode! It's a Christmas miracle!! SFxT is coming to Wednesday Night Fights and they're not allowing gems "until the USB saved gems/tournament mode patch is available" - I think the other upcoming tournaments will follow suit but I dunno. Personally, I would love it if tournament organizers and the community at large told Capcom to go take their DLC and and shove it. Heh :faust:

Cool, so most of your complaints are coming from being a serious fighting game enthusiast. I was worried that the gem system would be completely broken or something, but I'll probably enjoy it from most of the impression I've read.

Yeah, I have a feeling this will be a great online game but a terrible tournament/event game. That's the vibe I'm getting.

I mean if you play online, you don't have people waiting on you to customize your stuff. But it hasn't done anything to win me over compared to marvel/sf4/skullgirls/kof/sc5/etc
 
Also I caught the BlazBlue bug a couple days ago and want to play the hell out of it now. Guess I just needed to try Rachel

My Mortal Kombat arrived with it's online code intact (love Gamefly, best place to buy used games IMO) now I'm wondering what setup do most people use for the game for an 8 button layout? 

Just did the training mode and I'll start knocking down the story mode next.  Also picked up KoF XIII (Amazon lightining DoYD for $30) but that's a couple days away.

You don't have to use all 8 buttons, y'know. Anything but the basic four attacks and block are shortcuts.
 
◩Tag  = Back Punch (2) + Back Kick (4)
◩Throw  = Front Punch (1) + Front Kick (3)
◩Flip Stance  = Front Kick (3) + Back Kick (4)
◩X-Ray = Block  + Front Kick (3) + Back Kick (4)

People generally refer to the attack buttons by number because it's really convenient and the actual names are retarded.
 
On a standard layout arcade stick, most people use this:
 
1 2 X X
3 4 B X
 
Feel free to use whatever you want though, it's not like you'll make your hands too retarded to play on the arcade version (because there isn't one). I shortcut tag above block, and some people like to shortcut throw. If you're fine with anything, you should probably use that since it defaults to that on the most common stick configuration.

This is a landmark day because me and Rachtman agree on a thing! Nobody can resist the super fighting game of the future!
 
I guess there's a possibility that it could be moved back or forward a week or whatever, but XBLA marketplace shows it as 4/4. It's all in the hands of MS & Sony. The Reverge guys are literally not allowed to discuss the date (even now) and maybe don't even know it, lol.
