That also severely skews the attach rate ratio, but I'm not trying to argue on behalf of the PS2, just stating something that should be taken into account when doing a direct comparison.
Uh..... correct me if I'm wrong, but Wii Play, in japan, sells by itself. Doesn't it? It's only the US that gets the bundle. So as far as these media create numbers are concerned, people are buying Wii Play for Wii Play, not a second controller.

That's a pretty arrogant statement, IMHO.  It's not quite NES level arrogance, (as, ideally, there's been no bite to the bark), but it's pretty high up there.  You can't treat the retail stores like crap - unless you want to go to mail order only.
I just don't think you're going to get much support or agreement that Reggie is being a hypocrite or arrogant here. Retailer bundles are universally reviled and condemned for bundling multiple crap games, overpriced accessories, and needless unwanted "protection" plans. That's treating the manufacturer and customer like crap. Where as manufacturer one game system bundles are long standing, historically widely accepted, and usually offer savings (i.e. $15 discount on Zelda: PH, xbox 360 premium). That savings is called respecting the customer while pushing the agenda.

Even when they don't offer any savings, manufacturer bundles are still accepted because only one game is bundled and it is always a popular one with widespread support. In other words, they don't abuse you like the retailer bundles do. And if you *like* Wii Sports why are you complaining about the bundle in the first place? That's like throwing a hissy fit that Nintendo forced you to buy Tetris with your GameBoy. Oh the abuse! That accursed Nintendo, they're making me buy TETRIS.

So, no, Reggie is not arrogant or a hypocrite saying retailers can't bundle while his company bundles at the same time. You've got some hidden agenda otherwise.

Face it, the Wii and DS is selling like *crazy* in stores and stores are still very reluctant to give up Sony's shelf space to Nintendo... Why is that?
I dunno about you, but i'm seeing quite the opposite. EB and Gamestop stores by me have replaced all the PS2, PS3, and PSP sections Nintendo Wii and DS software. The first thing you find when you walk over to video game in my BestBuy is DS and Wii software. Even the largest retailer in akihabara shopping district in Japan replaced the 1st floor with Wii and DS software which had been exclusively Sony's domain. Now it is exclusively Nintendo's domain. Sony is on the 3rd floor now where Nintendo use to be.

Hello Reggie.

According to an article on Kotaku, Nintendo of America isn't fond of retailers forcing bundles on consumers.

So, I'm left wondering why Nintendo of America forces bundles on consumers?  Here in the states, we had to pay $30 more than Japan for our Wii because it was bundled with Wii Sports.  Over the Thanksgiving holiday, y'all released special edition DS units that were only sold in bundles for $20 more than the normal price of the DS (both with games I already own).

I too am all for letting the consumer decide what he or she wants.  Thus, I don't think it's quite fair to force bundles on us either.

Thank you.
Oh please, these are pretty meager bundles compared to the Walmart, GameStop, and ToyRus bundles.  As far as Zelda DS bundle, you're getting the game for $15 off. Give it to a friend for xmas. (that is what I'm doing) Or if you're not the charitable type go sell it on eBay for $30.

As far as Wii Sports, where's the vice and gnashing of teeth over the NES, SNES, and GameBoy, bundles of Mario Bros., Mario World, and Tetris? Oh geez let me guess, they're "games" right. No problems, no gouging there.... Or for that matter, what about xbox 360 core? Who in their right flipping mind is going to buy a xbox 360 core? It's very easy to say xbox 360 core is gouging the consumer, not giving them choice.

There are bundles that make sense and then there are bundles that are specifically designed for gouging. Reggie is talking about the latter.

You can't tell me that a modern day Mario Galaxy bundle with Wii would garner this much contempt. That isn't to say you can't express dissatisfaction or contempt for Wii Sports. But, lets not kid around here, the heart of this argument isn't that a bundled game is "not-fair" or impedes consumer choice. It's that you don't want to support Wii Sports since it is the harbinger of gaming doom.

Make that your argument, is what i'm saying. Because the consumers have spoken and Wii Sports is what they want. Hence this is no worse then Nintendo's past bundles, which were good things.

"friggin' ACC"? You mean, AAC right? If you've never heard of AAC, you'd best get used to it. It's the successor to MP3. Lots of companies are using it (Apple iTunes is the largest) because no licenses or payments are required to be able to stream or distribute content in AAC format.

Yea, I can agree with your feelings too, the broad acceptance. I'm an optimist though, so my feelings are that this will happen. Broad acceptance. Not only from gamers, but also parents / congress people. The latter will no doubt take longer, but it'll happen. I mean, games aren't the first thing to cause controversy with parents and statesmen. What about Movies and Comic books? My guess is that all this commotion and upheaval that Nintendo has wrought onto video gamers will fade away and we'll still have games like Bioshock and Half-life and that what ever comes to be won't be as bad at all.

Four-Swords is 50xs the game then Crossbow Training is, and it retains many of Zelda's key components, puzzle solving and great boss battles.
Hm... So if LCT was fleshed out more to a $40 or $50 game, perhaps sold independently, you'd stop your shenanigans? I mean, these ridiculous claims that LCT is on level or worse then the CDi games. You want to talk molestations? CDi Zelda is molestation of the franchise. Hotel Mario is molestation of the franchise. Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, Four-Swords these are the opposite of molestation. These are tender, loving, awesome extensions of the franchise. LCT is short, but I can't believe you're calling it CDi level molestation.

For a game that ripped everything from TP I would have thought they could have used more of the boss battles which were the highlight of the games SHORT lifespan.
I don't think anyone is dismissing that LCT is short or could/should have this or that. But what do you expect for $10? It's just supposed to be a pack-in that is fun and gives some value to the initial Wii Zapper purchase.

What I do think most people are dismissing here is that LCT is "molestation" of the Zelda franchise. Hey, it's your opinion, you don't have to agree with us. Perhaps we need to just agree to disagree. But, LCT is really no more of a molestation then Mario Kart. Link is not suddely firing a Star Trek phazer gun or the Half-Life gauss gun. A crossbow is not out of place in the medieval-esqe Zelda universe nor is target shooting, even the bomb arrows come direct from Zelda.

Just as Mario Kart has made the Mario franchise IP better over all, Four-Swords Zelda has made the Zelda-franchise better over all. Since, now you can play a Zelda with a friend or three, just like with Mario Kart. Neither Four-Swords nor LCT should be a *replacement* for a traditional Zelda, but I think they do make great in-between games. Just like Mario Kart or Super Smash Bros are great in-between games.

Hence why I do not, at all, view LCT as any abomination, molestation, or whoring of the Zelda IP.

Even better, did you or stop to think, geez, Galaxy would be so much more fun if they never made Mario Kart? No. Of course not. Because Mario Kart is made of epic win. Not withstanding the Mario franchise is better off because of this "whoring", this molestation, as GP would have you believe it is.

Link's crossbow training is no different.

GP is made of fail and lose.

Yea, for the record, I wasn't slighting you.

Getting back on topic.... (I'll try, at least)

Whether or not Wii Zapper is "worth it", I'd hazard a guess, is going to be subjective. Find a friend, maybe ask at an EB/GS if you can demo one. Regardless, I think you'll get $10 of enjoyment out of the game. If the Zapper does nothing for you, you can sell it for $10 to a friend that wants an extra, or on Craig's list, or eBay. Hell, i'll buy it from you for $10.

In short, "the first time Nintendo has whored Zelda outside the main games".
Perhaps this is just nitpicking, but didn't Nintendo "whore" out Zelda with the 4 swords adventure game to sell GBAs and link cables? Or use the mainline GBC Zelda's to pimp the GameBoy Camera? What about the Tingle Tuner in Windwaker?

It just seems rather arbitrary to now call "molestation" on something that has been standard issue, and well recieved, in nearly all Zelda games. Why can't that, like 4-swords was, be fleshed out into a game that will give value to the Wii Zapper? Link's crossbow training is quite short, maybe an hour or two to get all platinum medals, but it is by no means a crappy game.

Oh come on. All of the recent the mainstream mainline Zelda games have a shooting gallery style mini-game, in them. Tell me how many have not had some kind of archery or hookshot aiming skill game to earn rupees or heart containers or other helpful items.

So why is pulling out the archery skill test mini-game contained with in mainline Zelda games "molesting" the Zelda franchise?

What did I say... I called it back on page 99! This is the end. Nintendo files for Japan's equivalent of a US Chapter 7 Bankruptcy (total liquidation) at the end of fiscal '07.

They got 50 million people to buy in on the gimmick. Which is quite an accomplishment. But the blinders are gone. And this weeks numbers only prove how much the better the PSP actually is.

Good riddance.

I would be surprised to hear rumors of Chapter 7 bankruptcy by the end of fiscal '07.

It doesn't have to be a game OR a controller. You can get BOTH if you buy Wii Play. You get a game and an extra controller!

Geez, only 100k DS lite sold this week? Is the fad coming to a screeching halt? Guess that means Sony might have more then 2 months remaining to call the PS2 the top selling video game system in Japan.

Maybe the PS2 could hang on till Thanksgiving!
