Details on Hudson's upcoming WiiWare release are unveiled, but no official date has been announced.

Adventure Island: The Beginning is the newest game in Hudson's long-running franchise that hasn't seen a release since 1995. As series star Master Higgins, players traverse through many stages across the island. The Adventure Island series is known for its challenging difficulty due to a constantly depleting hunger meter and the quick reflexes needed to avoid enemies and obstacles.

The story begins similarly to previous games in the series as Master Higgins is enjoying a relaxing time with his girlfriend Tina when King Quiller appears out of nowhere and kidnaps her. Higgins then valiantly goes after his love and his foe.

The new European website offers tidbits on gameplay, including game modes ranging from the single player affair to four multiplayer mini-games, the items you'll use in the adventure, and a look at Master Higgins' feats, which are a series of achievements that unlock new outfits and caps for Higgins to wear.

A final release date and price has yet to be revealed. You can view the website here.

I hate the graphic style. It looks so muddy and just screams 'n64 graphics without expansion pack' . I know they are limited on WiiWare, but with world of goo and lost winds looking fantastic I don't see the excuse. Why make it 3d ish ? I don't see the point.

I downloaded the TG16 version a while back and really enjoyed it, so I'm intrigued by the game but the graphics are SERIOUSLY a deterrent for me .

I've hardly played any of the Adventure Island games but it is always nice to see an old series make a comeback. I just own the original on the NES. I hope this isn't as difficult as that one is as I don't think I've ever come close to beating it.

Graphics look OK to me.

How does this game fit into the whole mess of a situation that is the Wonder Boy/Adventure Island series? You know, the one that has led to like 3 versions of the exact same game to be released on the Virtual Console under different names?

My only issue with the graphics is that the colors should have been brighter. But other than that I am too excited for this game to care about such details.

This is the Master Higgins series, it's designed like the arcade original. There are other Adventure Island games and they are all straight up platformers with somewhat different powerups. Wonder Boy is an arction RPG outside of the arcade original AFAIK.

Yeah, it's pretty nice though you can see that the budget was lacking, everything animates like someone's first attempt at animation (or maybe they reduced the keyframe count to save space...). It's not pretty though there seems to be quite a bit of game stuffed into those 309 blocks. I just wish the manual would explain things like the different weapons, so far the axe and spear appear to do exactly the same with only the boomerang being different (does everything better)... And what does the eggplant do?

If it's anything like the original, the eggplant slowly drains your health.

Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!
