Super Mario Galaxy 2 Mentioned By Miyamoto in Famitsu
« on: March 22, 2008, 05:33:25 PM »
So I'm on the net, upset at how easily I was able to beat Galaxy, when I came across this little gem:

http://www.wiiloaded.com/Famitsu-Interviews-Miyamoto-Nintendos-Future-Projects-Hinted-At-t-14020-wii

Will it be on the Wii or do I have to wait till I'm 30? What would it be like?

Also, I'm thinking of getting a stereoscopic 3D converter for my LCD next time. Would it be worth it? Super Mario Hologram here I come!

You mean there's a new Mario title expected in the future? The series isn't dead? Thankyou. Thankyou for this!

I'm curious how the word Galaxy was used. Core Mario games are usually not direct sequels.

They did a lot of things in Galaxy that could only be done in the space setting, if they're going to make another Mario game this generation it would make more sense to make Super Mario Galaxy: The Lost Levels than to start from scratch.

I'd TOTALLY dig a Super Mario Galaxy 2 which featured new levels and very little else. There's nothing wrong with more of the same when the same is awesome.

Don't expect anything soon people.  Miyamoto started talking about Mario 128 on the Gamecube just a few months after Sunshine was released back in 2002.

Not to mention when Mario Galaxy has already sold over 6 million copies in less then 6 months and is still selling.  Nintendo never makes a sequel to a game that's still selling like crazy.  Why else do you all think they haven't released a New Super Mario Bros 2 when the first one has sold over 13 million copies?  Because New Super Mario Bros is STILL selling in every single major territory.

Unless Mario Galaxy's sales suddenly drop to zero over night in every single country, don't expect a sequel to appear for at least 3 years.

Having some sort of downloadable "Lost Levels" is actually a pretty good idea. My main pet peeve with the WAS that there weren't more levels and the difficulty being too low. As long as I don't have to have the disc or something

Well, I hope that Nintendo keeps in mind that fans of the series get pissed off having to wait so long for sequels. Also, there's a chart out there that shows a decline in Mario series games over time. The Press really needs to put pressure on Shiggy.

Yeah, that's immensely tempting. *sigh* I'm split on the issue though, should they save it for DS? Is a New NEW super Mario bros. too easy? Would it be a concession that 3D platforming is not as popular as 2D? Would it not be innovative enough for the Wii?

Don't Nintendo fans also complain that Nintendo just keeps churning out sequels and never gives us new IPs?

I think Mario Galaxy 2 in 2009 is likely, and sounds great to me!  Although, having recently finished Lost Levels on the virtual console, I'd much prefer a new 8-bit Mario.  Not another New Super Mario Bros, but a new, remixed NES-style Mario game.  Lost Levels kicked me around hard and I loved it.

Don't knock it if it ain't broke. That's my motto when it comes to games. I understand that it may get a little repetitive at times. I think that's probably one reason why they wait until the next console is realeased to make one to take advantage of any new gimmicks.

No, Just Plain No.
A re-re-release of Super Mario Bros 3 would be vastly superior then that disappointment.  I still don't see how it keeps selling...

I disagree. Tomb Raider, back in 1995 wasn't broke by a long shot but holey **** by the time Chronicales hit in 2000 or whatever it was very, very broken and they didn't change a damn thing.

Well I haven't played Galaxy and unlike most Nintendo fans, I hated Sunshine and had minor issues with Mario 64.

If they do this, it should just be a collection of Super Mario Sunshine minus the waterpack challenge levels. Plus a level editor so you could make your own and share them with friends (ala Smash Bros. Brawl).

Well, first of all, you're kinda comparing apples to oranges here. We're talking about Mario who has proven time and again that he can adapt to new media platforms and controls with near zero bumps in the road (unlike Sonic; an RPG? WTF?) not g*dd*mn Indiana Jones ripping Tomb Raider.

If they do this, it should just be a collection of Super Mario Sunshine minus the waterpack challenge levels. Plus a level editor so you could make your own and share them with friends (ala Smash Bros. Brawl).

I would f***ing sign this if it had some sort of downloadable "Lost Levels" in addition.

I'd totally buy this, and I can see them warming up to the idea as it'd be able to recycle Galaxy's engine (plus up the number of Mario games on the Wii). And along with Brawl, it'd one one of the few games I'd actually like having a level editor for (not that Shiggy said there'd be one), as I just found it fun to jump around in that game. Of course, I wouldn't need it immediately, as I haven't even gotten 70 stars yet in Galaxy.

And I'm also bewildered why New Super Mario Bros. has sold so highly. Yes, it was a new Mario side-scroller on a system with a huge install base, but the game didn't blow me away (I even sold it back, tho I now regret it). They should put out a second one of that out soon, but make it have a little more character next time around (the SMB3 to the original SMB, if you will). Super Princess Peach 2 would be nice, too.

I just wish they would redo Super Mario World in full 3D, and a remake, not a sequel but an updated adaptation of Super Mario RPG with some new features added in. They could save this one for DS since Square seams to be doing all the old RPG remakes for that system.

The reason it's sold so much is because it's done exactly what the game was designed to do, recapture the feel of the Original Super Mario Bros, which it did.  That's why the game was called NEW Super Mario Bros.  Anyone could just pick the game up and play it at anytime, just like the original.  That's why the levels were all simple and small, get from point A to point B, like the original.

Even though some of you didn't like the game because of this, too bad.  The game wasn't meant to be a sequel to Mario World, but a tribute to the Original.  The director of the game EVEN SAID SO HIMSELF.
http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=6106

Quote
Tezuka also stated that New Super Mario Bros. will be a sort of throwback to the original NES Super Mario Bros.. Basically he feels that as Mario evolved, the games became more for the hard-core audience. He quickly clarifies that statement by saying, "That's not to say this game isn't for hard-core players, but I want to recapture the spirit of the original Super Mario Bros."

Just how would they accomplish this without completely changing the way the game works?  By the time they pulled everything together it'd be a whole new game...
