After a week of not having access to my laptop, I'm back and ready to host, ladies and gentlemen. Since I now claim residence in Tallahassee, Florida (Home of the Seminoles, baby!), I'm able to record at Mike Sklens' house, and together we bring an unprecedented amount of awesome to this episode. Oh yeah, and Windy and Jonny are there, too, I think? I dunno - there was just so much awesome flying around it was hard to tell.

This week's a doozy. Konami is bringing Contra IV to DS, Bioware's working on a Sonic RPG, and then there's the Manhunt business. We cover it all, though, in addition to some commentary on last week's Hot Topic, a great listener email (Can you guess which game they asked about? Go ahead! Guess!), and more. You don't want to miss it.

And remember, once you're done with the show, go ahead and give us a digg via the link above. And while you're at it, subscribe at iTunes! Oh, and when you're done there, send me weekly checks. College life is hard, man!

Gainesville is the place to be.  Bobby Bowden needs to just call it quits, now, before he completely embarrasses the school.  I'm totally not kidding.  I can't wait to see how bad your school gets crushed this season.

Memory sticks really only get sales in Sony products.  Most things that use flash cards use SD cards or compact flash.  Sony won't let go of their formats, still.
Although, Lumines sales sales rising 5900% the day that exploit was found is proof that the homebrew community is a very powerful commodity that Sony continues to turn away.

I actually liked this commercial break, with the non-tendo.  Brufus, was it?

The solution to Manhunt 2's rating?  Take out all of the blood.  Leave absolutely everything else in there, and color the blood blue, green, make it sparks, do something that makes it not blood.  Everything stays in, but the blood isn't blood.  Then it becomes fantasy violence.  The things you kill technically don't have to be humans.  Someone said it on the podcast, make them robots, but something like that would really work.  But yes, I think Take2's games are placed on a pedestal and rated to prove a point to politicians.

As a new recruit to the Seminole Nation, I'm not that affected by your ill-conceived Gator trolls. (Haha, Gators, haha) But seriously, when Mike sees that, he's gonna ****ing kill you. Bobby Bowden is Christ around here.

Which is why he's been getting the Seminoles crucified in about half of their games lately.

I jest, I jest.  Seriously, I'm decent friends with some Seminole fans and my favorite cousin will be at FSU in the Fall.  We do this kind of friendly rivalry stuff all the time.  This past year has been a bit lop-sided, though.  He even suggested that Bowden doesn't really coach or anything like that anymore, they just put him on the sideline and stick some Kenny Rodgers on repeat with his headphones, while the younger coaches try to run everything.

If "Anyways" were F-Bombs, Karl would rated AO.

Just popping in to point out that Karl lied; there's still no reviews for Shrek or Naruto.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Since no one stepped in to correct Obi, I'll do it.  The same difference that exists between R and NC-17 movies exists for M and AO video games.

From the MPAA website:
Quote

R:  ... Parents are strongly urged to find out more about this film before they allow their children to accompany them. ... [P]arents are counseled in advance to take this advisory rating very seriously.
Quote

NC-17:This rating declares that the Rating Board believes this is a film that most parents will consider patently too adult for their youngsters under 17. No children will be admitted. ...
As you said in the podcast, R means children probably shouldn't see it, NC-17 means children aren't allowed to see it (in theaters, at least).

From the ESRB website:
Quote

Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older.
Quote

Titles rated AO (Adults Only) have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older.
The same standards are here; M means children probably shouldn't play it, AO means children definitely shouldn't play it.

The only difference is that stores have no way of stopping parents from letting children play AO games if their parents buy the games for them.  But the same can be said for retails and NC-17 movies.

Due to recent events it seems more like AO means nobody should play it, since no major retailer will sell the game and Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony won't publish it.

Let's guess What game Windy was talking about that he was playtesting on that got an initial AO rating...

Xbox game, graphic sex/violence in some way....

I'm guessing Riddick: Butcher Bay.

You could be right.  VU Games has an office in L.A., where Windy is.  It could also be 50 Cent:  Bulletproof, Die Hard: Vendetta, Fight Club, Leisure Suit Larry: Magna C*m Laude, or The Thing.

Hey, we don't (at least I don't) even know if he worked for VU Games.  There are lots of developers in the L.A. area.  There's still plenty of guess-work to be had!

Mistakes in this podcast:

Street Fighter II Turbo is not the best version of Street Fighter II.

Did somebody say Shantae was the same game as Sigma Star Saga? Because I'm pretty sure it's not!!

LOL @ "I don't think melancholy is a content descriptor on the back of the box!"

Great line!

Non-tendo = genius.

Ping Pals has REDEEMING FEATURES!!! You... you guys are mean! ME! ME! YESSS!!!! THANK YOUUUUUU!!!!

I mean seriously, have you even tried DRESSING your guy in Ping Pals? Have you tried the "top 10" minigame? It's like playing your own mini family feud game!

For example, question: name ten animals?

A question like this REALLY exercises your brain.

My answers can range from armadillo, bear, crocodile, dingo, elephant, flamingo, gator, heffalump, insect, jackalope, koala, lamprey, manatee, nautilus, okapi, prawn, quetzelcoatl, rhinoceros, sturgeon, thrush, unicorn, velociraptor, wendigo, x..... yellowtail, zebra... and more.

... Ping Pals was brain training BEFORE brain training. It was buried in a meaningless chat app, but GOD that game had some AWESOME aspects.

Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;

For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

I don't think anyone said Shantae = Sigma Star Saga.  I played and reviewed the latter, and I thought I talked about it on the air, but maybe that got cut or happened before we started.
