Wasn't it just like two-three years ago that everyone was predicting that theaters were dead and it was the end for them anyway?

It is dying, just not in that way. Fewer and fewer movies are viable with budgets absolutely exploding.

Jordan Peele seems to have managed it, but you're largely right about the budgets. Westworld and GOT are at 10m/episode, some of the Apple+ stuff is coming in at 15m/episode and Discovery is reported at 8m/ep. But the season lengths are shrinking to British TV levels (maximum 13, commonly 6-8).

This looks totally bonkers, but anything with Iko Uwais in and i will watch without question.

The circles I run in I didn't hear a peep about Domino race.

It did in mine, and with Anna Diop in Titans and Halle Bailey's casting in The Little Mermaid and John Boyega in The Force Awakens...

It seems pretty clear there was some sort of falling out between Picard and Starflert that caused him to walk away. He could still be exploring space, but he made a conscious decision not to. And it's not like the show is set at the vineyard and about him making wine, it's just where he was before he got pulled back into another adventure.

Quoting this alone because of Starflert.

My only complaint is the geography. I live in London. The events of Thor 2 and Far From Home happened 4 miles apart. The people who live there in that universe must really hate it.

Having watched it, it is arguably filler but not really really because FitzSimmons is the the pair which most of the show relies upon emotionally.

Most shows with any form of domestic arguments going on i tend to mentally click off, but i watched these two shout at & over each other with genuine warmth and irritation while being totally engaged.

I'm still really disappointed at the way how the show forgot about Joey from seasons ago after he just "i'm done i'm out!" and walked off

To be honest Karl Urban tends to elevate whatever he's in (Dredd and Almost Human especially) so i'm totally with you on this one.

Very NSFW.

Best use of Spice Girls ever.

Berman and Braga were terrible and anything good in Star Trek in that era came despite them. Don't let your hatred for the current state of Star Trek delude you into thinking they were good for the franchise.

Those two were, indirectly, the reason for DS9 being what it is.

After TNG and Voyager, DS9 almost made a deliberate attempt to go as far away from that as possible. It shows.

Godzilla 2.

It was definitely a big romp. If you like the monsters beating each other up this movie is for you. The actual story felt very contrived to me. Felt like it was thrown in as an afterthought just to string the monster fights together. But let's be honest, this movie was made for monster fights to I don't think I can criticise it too much for it.

The monster designs were great and they had some interesting moves too. And I never thought I'd ever say this but I never thought I'd get so attached to a giant bug. Mothra was just unexpectedly lovely.

Agreed. What a great design.

I do have to argue though, in that universe who would want to live in or insure large buildings?

I'm amazed at how in the entire movie there was only one Guy Ritchie-ism when Aladdin was pushed off into the river it went all slow-mo for a few seconds when his other movies are normally packed full of his style.

I'd love a Stargate nod (which is unlikely, these shows regularly acknowledge Star Trek and Wars but never Stargate).. maybe with an automated ship thats been flying since longer than the Union has existed.

John Wick was totally worth it for the fight scene with the "ninjas" at the end, both of which are actors (and stunt actors) involved in The Raid 1 and 2.

Yeah they go Moclans a bit much. That said the sex lagoon and 5 0 0 Cigarettes is pure gold. Kyden needs to diaf. I am 100% sure the show is intentionally making him a hated character like DS9 with Kia Winn, that fucking bitch.

Maybe John is channelling La Forge too much. John's character is pretty subtle, he is a guy who has been hiding his strength all his life, acting the fool outside of his work. In a ship full of weird people someone like him is going to fade out exactly like what his character would want to do. A lot of his character comes out when giving poorly contextualised dating advice which gave us comedy gold.

The John episodes haven't been kind to him. He is a passenger in Majority Rules. New Dimensions he is more of a sub-plot even though he is earning his leadership role which he had to be pushed into. I am sure they will give him proper episodes. Mallory got 2 very excellent ones this season.

The Orville CD arrived almost 2 weeks earlier than the given ETA from Amazon not that I am complaining, seems like excessive time padding or there is a lot of variance in delivery times here.

My friend's complaints about John is about his line readings almost as if he lacks any energy or effort most times in the way he speaks. That's an actor issue more than character. LaForge was definitely more animated (like his blunt "purpose being?" line in Insurrection) and that showed up when he was on screen. To be fair, placing him alongside Scott Grimes (who voices Steve Smith in American Dad) is a bit of a disservice because Scott is a very capable comedian.

I'd have chosen Daniel Kaluuya. After Widows (in which he was mostly silent but completely terrifying) i'd have picked him in a heartbeat.

My friend has binged his way through The Orville and has two constant complaints.

1 - The Moclans are revisited far too much.
2 - John Lamarr is a terrible character who is too blank all the time.

What does this remind you of?

The Hustle - basically every studio avoided releasing a movie immediately after Endgame, but this released last week and it is pretty bad. The movie feels like a string of events along with a bet to get Anne Hathaway in as many costumes as possible.

I don't find Rebel Wilson funny. Her style of physical humour is akin to Kevin Hart's "i'm short and loud" style.

That is heavy AF. How can the this show keep topping itself. This the best TV show for at least the last decade.

I love the Orville right from the pilot when people were dismissing/crying it over the jokes/Seth/Trek. I cannot describe how blown my mind is. This is a new feeling. **** everything else, inject Orville directly into my brain.

Person of Interest is right there, dude. Even you said yourself MAXIMUM NOLAN on that series finale - no show has since managed that shows transformation from average police procedural to analysis into the forms of AI, or even managed an in-depth look at AI (and there's been LOADS since), even landed its finale as well as POI has, or made a show that has gone from science-fiction to real-life as fast.

I do enjoy The Orville when i watch it but its not quite a regular thing. The show is very much a homage to TNG in particular while it story seems to be getting darker and darker towards DS9 - not exactly a bad place to go thematically.

The single biggest achievement of the movie was getting Robert Redford back one more time. He retired last year on The Old Man and His Gun, but he was back for Endgame AND he managed to hustle a "with" credit on just three-ish lines of dialogue.

JJ's best work is when he's attached but not involved - Westworld, Person of Interest, Fringe.

Also, i wish the title was Skywalker Ascendant. I'm picking up TYP's hatred of The X of Y titles.

Jeff Goldblum also fixed the trailer: https://twitter.com/jeffreygoldbIum/status/1117143269765517312

I went for 10am on Saturday because the 182 minute runtime will mean i still lose 4 hours (including trailers and travel time).

Captain Marvel - The movie had some issues in that for such a powerful character she seemed to lack punch or power in her fights at times. The music was dialled down and the sound effects was very muted with several scenes with plenty of gaps and pauses. I don't think Brie Larson has quite found the character yet, so i'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves in later movies.

However, it is definitely a good palate cleanser between Infinity War and Endgame to slow the pace down and try something different.
