Here's a really good article about why you should get in on some tournaments! It also makes a good point that Soul Calibur V is coming out soon and you could get in on the ground floor there.

SC5 will get a lot of tournament play if the game is good and there is a lot of interest in it, if that's what you mean. SC4 still gets some play but I really don't think a lot of people care about it that much, other than maybe some die-hards. I feel that each game is taken as it comes so the concept of a series being "respected" seems weird to me.

Is SCV released?!

Hang in there, Namco is pretty close to letting it all out:

Nice poster, it confirms that Ivy still has gigantic tits and will be showing them off, but...where exactly are the outsides of her breasts? Nowhere?
This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

The recent retail Mortal Kombat went up as a downloadable game with a 1 hour free Trial yesterday on PSN, so I decided to give the trial a shot and see how I liked it.  An hour later, I think the story mode is cool and far better than other attempts at such a mode in other Fighting Games...but I don't think I'll be buying this one.  The game makes no attempt at teaching the player how to play the game, which got to be a problem with I hit a roadblock several fights into the story mode with me as Scorpion vs. two opponents with teleport moves.  I tried the training mode, but it frankly sucks.  I got a few lessons in where the game wanted me to execute a simple Low Punch->Low Kick->High Punch combo, and despite my best efforts I couldn't do it and the game wouldn't tell me what I was doing wrong.  I was hitting the buttons, and I was even hitting them quickly, and I was still failing.  Well, **** THAT.  I did like how easy it was to trigger the X-Ray moves once you filled your Special Bar, and some of the Specials were fairly easy to pull off.

It's definitely a quality game, but it's just not made for me.  On the rare occasion I feel like playing a fighting game, I'll stick with one designed to be played by mere mortals like myself, like (Ult) Marvel vs. Capcom 3 or the original BlazBlue Calamity Trigger.
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

You have to mashed the buttons quicker than sh!t in MK.  It's not about timing since the animation will be like two or three steps back.  You using the standard controller or a fightstick?  Some combos require timing and I think if you move over them it will tell you so.  Also turn your input command on so you can see what buttons you are pressing.

Besides the normal training mode you also have like 300 Challenge tower modes to help you train in the game, not sure if the trail had that mode available.

But yeah, I wished the game had a demo mode (with input command on) so you can see the timing and sh!T without all the guess work needed.  For MK there's youtube trainers that do exactlly that but I rather have them in game.

I'm waiting for MK-Complete to come out, hopefully they add something to the training mode as well.

This is way weird, I'm finding myself agreeing with a broodwars post. MK9 doesn't really teach anything and has a bad training mode. (This is also another opportunity for me to promote Skullgirls as the super fightin' game of the future!)

But, I do want to make the observation that there's a wealth of information on the internet or even just in the heads of any pals who play fightin' games. You can have stuff demonstrated for you on youtube in a few seconds, and I use this constantly. I'll often just search [character name] + [combos/setups/resets/tricks] and find multiple videos. Or, hop on IRC or a forum and ask somebody. I guess I'm trying to make the point that you won't get everything you can out of fighters if you play them in a bubble.

But yeah in MK9 to do strings, you just tap out the buttons quickly and it will automatically buffer the string. Don't hit anything twice though, or it will drop the string. I think MK might be the only game that does this...

Some more exclusive characters heading to PS3 for Street Fighter Vs Tekken, Mega Man and Pac-Man.  Megaman isn't the icon that we all know and love but some sort of early version of himself.  This makes 3 exclusives characters for the PS3 and five for the vita, none for MS?

A few new bits about Soul Calibur 5, the new meter can be used a few different ways.  One way is with "ultra" attacks but it also has "ex" attacks that super chargers your normal attacks and adds stun damage which will allow you to perform insane combos.  And lastly you can use the meter to "counterattack".

Man that's the Mega Man that was on the cover of like the first game right? Only he got fat! That's pretty cool if you ask me, but I bet fans won't be too thrilled.

Seems like Capcom X Namco now.

Any more Rumors of Soul Calibur for 3DS? How about a Wii U version is there any hope at all? I know no one knows these answers, it just makes me feel better when people talk about it...

I'm starting to think that S-U-P-E-R is a SkullGirls dev plant. LOL

I needs me some SCV. I'm kind of sad the bonus characters from SCIV aren't in it. I really liked Angol Fear's character design.

I tried Blaz Blue last night for the PS3. The story is convoluted and makes no sense. Does it get better or does it stay horrible?

Soul Calibur V reviews are finally coming in:
+new gage system works wonderful
+fixed online system so no more god awful lag
+new training mode makes it easier for new players
+the create mode has tons of options
-story mode is short and crappy
-arcade mode has no flair, no endings for characters just the credits roll
-a few more advance online options isn't available

Sweet if the online play is actually that good.

I hear there's some awful fuzzy guard option select oversight or bug or something that totally negates all mixups. I'll be watching very closely to see if it's as bad as it sounds or if it gets patched. Hopefully I'll get to spend some time with the game later tonight (I'm moving soon and unfortunately cannot even afford to buy every fighting game that comes out just yet)

Mortal Kombat is the Dotd at Amazon for $25 sure there's the Komplete Edition coming out but it's retailing at the full $60==though it does come with all the DLC (characters plus skin packs), soundtrack, and movie download.
