Is it.. going to overtake SMB3 as the best-selling non pack-in game ever?

No because Super Mario Bros 3 was only 1 game.  Nintendogs is like Pokemon since it's several different games counted as one.  So Bros 3 still holds the record for best selling stand alone title.

The PS3 is selling better and better each week in Japan. I don't think this bodes well for the future of the Wii...

Supply issues =/= a trend.

Well, actually, Nintendo's DS and Wii both trend VERY STRONGLY with whatever supply issues they have right now...

I came back from lunch today to see a bag from Gamestop at a coworker's desk.  It turns out he lucked into a Wii today, and he spent a large part of the afternoon calling all his friends to tell them the good news.  It's been a while since I last had the Wii's phenomenal success demonstrated to me personally.

So, you know, consider this an early scoop on North America sales for February: at least 1.

You know it makes me wonder why they are even buying PSPs if they aren't buying the games.

The PSP is almost twice the Gamecube's user base, but the GC owners bought around 7 million more games at the moment.  The PSP might have the worst tie ratio in the history of the industry.

I don't know I hate these rising game prices and very large system investments. Thats pretty bad for me.  As this new generation of gamers breed(techno whores and "mature" gamers), prices are going to go up for awhile and incentive for innovation will go down.  I think we could end up in another Atari incident.

I don't think it's going to reach a crash, you grow out of that "extremeness" so the expensive, "hardcore" games will remain a small part of the market primarily appealing to teenagers while the less extreme games (not talking about nongames, just games that don't sell on great graphics or stuff) remaining the majority. Of course innovation will always stagnate a bit between shakeups, kinda like a post-revolutionary government. There's a need for constant shakeups, a constant revolution to keep the market dynamic and moving.

The PSP fits in with this.  Gameboys and stuff set the standard at $150 or below.  Then along comes PSP demanding $250.

Sorry I shouldn't have said I don't really expect a crash.  Just a period in gaming where most games are generic and have no effect on the mind at all in terms of creating nostalgia. Kinda like a lot of Wii games and a few *shudders* first party games.

Still in the Top 10 though but I'm really not to surprised.  If the game is truly excellent it will probably settle there.

The PSP is almost twice the Gamecube's user base, but the GC owners bought around 7 million more games at the moment.  The PSP might have the worst tie ratio in the history of the industry.

If you included pirated games into that tie ratio then the PSP might actually have the greatest tie ratio in history. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that people only use it for piracy. That's gotta be the explanation for it...

Indeed its still there, but for such a high profile game (meaning it cost lots of $$$) it's doing poorly, ain't it? I wonder how a Wii version would sell when compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360 version. :P

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is ABSOLUTELY UNSTOPPABLE! It's just returned to the #1 spot in the UK from outside the top 40 AGAIN, I think this is the third time? It's shipments are selling out instantly, everywhere. This is Wii's clear #1 game.

01 (__) [WII] Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games (Sega)
02 (01) [NDS] Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games (Sega)
03 (04) [NDS] Dr Kawashima's Brain Training (Nintendo)
04 (03) [WII] Wii Play (Nintendo)
05 (10) [WII] Game Party (Midway)
06 (__) [PS3] Unreal Tournament III (Midway)
07 (26) [NDS] Cooking Mama 2 (505 Games)
08 (02) [360] Devil May Cry 4 (Capcom)
09 (08) [NDS] More Brain Training From Dr Kawashima (Nintendo)
10 (17) [NDS] Sight Training (Nintendo)

Quote
Sega’s title outsells Activision’s ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ at No2 by nearly 4 to 1, while ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ moves to its highest All Format Chart position so far this year, up from No7 to No3.
Absolutely phenomenal. (btw this quote is from the chart that combines all versions of multiplatform games, that's why CoD4 isn't in the normal top 10)

Anyone who dismissed Mario & Sonic Olympics is getting completely owned on a weekly basis, and guess what? It's going to sell like this ALL YEAR and maybe even better when the Olympics come around. Highest selling game of all time anyone?

Nintendo should have had Sega publish the Olympic games, then there would finally be a 3rd party Wi game at the top. I'm amazed to see Game Party at #5, that's at least good news for 3rd parties, but it's bad news for gamers because it's crap and now even more publishers will be making...crap.
