Star Wars Arcade?
« on: April 21, 2009, 12:13:08 AM »
Anyone think we'll see either the 1997 version, or the original Atari version (with ROTJ) on the Wii Arcade service?  It's perfectly design for the motion controler.  Even better if they had a stand attachment so you could play it like the real thing..

1997? The last Star Wars arcade game I can find is 1993's "Star Wars Arcade", which also got a Sega 32X port.

The games have a difficulty right off the bat in terms of licensing. The 1980s Star Wars arcade games were developed and published by Atari. The 1993 one by Sega. Say you want the 1983 one, Atari and LucasArts would have to reach a deal first (which would also likely may it a 600 point game rather than 500). It could happen, but the odds are lower IMO due to the licensing issue.

There was apparently a 1998 arcade game, too.  (Edit:  I think I may have wasted fifty cents in a broken one of these once.)

The '83 game and its immediate sequel were included in the Rogue Squadron games on GameCube, so either LucasArts owns the games outright or has at least been able to work out a deal in the past.

The later Star Wars arcade game is Star Wars Trilogy Arcade.  It's made by Sega.  That game has never had a home port so I would be all over it.  For the 1993 one though the 32X version has extra content so I would prefer that.

The remote actually would work quite well for the 1998 one.

I really disliked the Sega Star Wars arcade.  It looked cool, but it played horribly and wasn't nearly as engaging as I hoped it would be.  The only portions worth playing are the space battles and even then its not that good.

Now, the original Star Wars Arcade game with the vector graphics and all was awesome.  I would love to play that game again, and I would gladly pay 700 points or even 800 points to play that game.  It was revolutionary and fun.  And porting the game with motion controls would be great fun.

Is that on the bonus disc that was a pre-order bonus? I seem to have lost my copy of the bonus disc so I am curious if it really is hidden on the main game disc somewhere.

I would be happy with any of the SW arcade games coming to VC Arcade. It would make sense to have a 100 point premium on it like Ninja Turtles did. Though how big were they? Do we know if VC Arcade has the same 40MB limit or do you think it could allow for larger sized arcade games?

They were in Rebel Strike, actually.  Gamefaqs says the ROTJ game was also included, but it can only be unlocked by code, unlike the other two.  I'll have to try that out!

Nice, I'm all over those then.

What was on the pre-order disc then? I want to know what I lost.

Rogue Squadron II didn't have a pre-order disc. Rogue Squadron III did, but all it contained was a collection of demos and trailers for GameCube games and a art gallery. http://www.gamespot.com/gamecube/action/starwarsroguesquadron3/news.html?sid=6074383&mode=previews

OK, thanks.

Back on topic, would any of these Star Wars arcade games fit within the size requirement of VC/WW games? Some of those 3D ones might be too big.
