The cheapest solution to the storage issue isn't to allow the Wii to read or load form an SD card, it's simply a firmware upgrade that allows the Wii to read and load from USB Hard Drive devices. A firmware update is the least evasive and labor intensive solution plus you wouldn't need to buy any cards you could use an old USB HD you probably have lying around from old PC back ups. Storage is cheap, and the capacity is great. Let the Wii communicate with these devices. I think THAT would be the best way.

Unfortunately I don't have a link because I saw it in my copy of Nintendo Power. I guess you should check your local magazine seller. I think it looks like a miss or tease on the part of Nintendo but who knows, I guess we'll see.

It seems to me that this is what we've been waiting for. There is obviously a ton of interest in a game like this on the Wii so why executives think this will bomb is beyond me. Yes I agree that Wii gamers are a jaded bunch and probably will scoff at any attempt at legitimate hardcore gaming but that's only true if the game is crap. If the game is good and effort was put into its design then I don't understand why they can't find a publisher and put this game into the hands of every hungry Wii owner just begging for a chance at a real game. They have to understand that the shallow gaming market will pass probably faster than it started and core gamers are going to be the main consumer of Nintendo products. Gaming executives need to read forums like these and actually care about their craft and their customer, because if you do that then the money is just a byproduct of good business. I hope somebody with the ability to do so, makes this game a reality. If they do and it succeeds then this can be the new face of things to come on the Wii.

I would have to say that I'm hoping for things that probably wont happen.

I would like to see: A firmware update that would let my Wii connect to an external HD
An amazing (As amazing as you can get on the Wii) On-line FPS with Downloadable content
                           An exclusive MMO RPG
Spore... Not just a watered down version either

I've heard that Pikmen 3 will be announced and I am very excited about that. Also Kid Icarus, that could be great. I hope we get a revamped DS lite, and a more promising lineup for Wiiware. Animal crossing should be amazing, especially if they open up on-line play for it and incorporate a Wii channel. Also, I know in the grand scheme of things this might not be very important but a tweak to the Wii's user interface would be nice.

At this point I don't feel very excited about any announcements that they will make. I am hopefull though, I hope they will finally turn their focus on us core gamers instead of the quick buck that the shallow market has opened up for them. I hope to walk away from E3 with at least four things to be excited about, that isn't much to ask for... Is it?

Yes the same thought occurred to me. Current resolution wouldn't work, although the current DS can play GB Advanced games and they have a lower resolution than DS games. Although I do have to concede, if this was a redesign I doubt Nintendo would stick so closely to the current look of the system unless it was generally really well received or they got lazy.

You could tell that the screen shots were just pasted onto an image of a DS and even if they got the inside of the screen dimensions wrong the outside ones look legit to me. I don't know... I guess it's just wishfull thinking on my part. I don't know why, we all know that Nintendo will put out a redesign in the near future and I should just wait patiently.

And thanks for the welcome, looking forward to more Nintendo themed discussions.

Nintendo Gaming / New DS, This may be the proof

On page 53 of the August 2008 issue of Nintendo Power Magazine there is an advertisement for Discaea DS, and the DS in the add has slightly different dimensions. The screens are larger. The gap between the screen and the speakers is non existent and the buttons are smaller slightly. Now this may just be a small tweak to make the screen shots look bigger but this close to E3 I think it may just be an oversight and this is the next DS to be released. If that's right... I want one.
