Want to see giant monsters go nuts in big cities? Now is your chance.

MIDWAY'S RAMPAGE®: TOTAL DESTRUCTION™ WREAKS HAVOK AT RETAIL FOR A VALUE PRICE

Reinvented Arcade Favorite Offers More Than 25 Monsters to Choose From

CHICAGO – April 24, 2006 – Midway Games Inc. (NYSE: MWY), a leading interactive entertainment software publisher and developer, today announced that Rampage®: Total Destruction™, has shipped for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and the Nintendo GameCube™. This new version reinvents the classic arcade game and offers up a huge selection of monsters that have the ability to perform unique combo attacks and individual super moves. Game versions for both platforms are now available with a U.S. suggested retail price of $19.99.

"Rampage: Total Destruction's massive monster list and fully destructible cities will introduce a whole new generation of gamers to the Rampage universe, while staying true to the classic gameplay that arcade fans love," said Steve Allison, chief marketing officer, Midway. "Gamers of all ages will smash, punch, and burp with delight as Rampage: Total Destruction delivers a great single–player and multi–player experience for a fantastic value price."

In Rampage: Total Destruction, players can choose from more than 25 unlockable monsters, and seven international cities, including San Francisco, Hong Kong and Hollywood. Players will start with six characters available, including the original terror trio of George, Lizzie and Ralph, and graduate to new crazy monsters hidden throughout the various 3D city environments, such as Icky the Echidna in London, Wally the Warthog in New York City and Jack the Jackalope in Las Vegas.

I had a lot of fun with the older versions of this game, if its anything like the others, than it should be worth the 20 bucks to pick up for some multi-player fun.  It probably has the same problems as the older ones too, that it gets really repetitive after a while.

Still, I have some new friends at college who I know would probably really enjoy the carnage of this game.

One note of interest is that the game is made by the people behind Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee

That alone should give this title some light...

Yeah, Pipeworks made the game so I will be picking it up for sure. Budget is a little tight right now, but at $20 this should be fairly easy to pick up.

Hm, I've bought it on the PS2 because I didn't see anything of a GC version. 20 Euros is the proper impulse buy range.

Interesting how they manage to not mention the included arcade games in that press release, you'd expect them to make a big deal about that.

Compared to the arcade versions it's a LOT better, especially being able to climb the front of a building changes it a lot. Though it's way easier than the arcade games (didn't die once during the first two levels even though I've never played Rampage before), health is regained trivially easy. And I'd like it if throwing cars had more effect than just minor impact damage sometimes and usually nothing at all. That's one of the few things I Was An Atomic Mutant did better, throwing cars (especially the tanks) does major damage there.

EDIT: Oh and I liked the intro. They've heavily borrowed from Pixar's The Incredibles for the graphic style.
