Electronic Arts (EA) recent financial report revealed that their games on the Wii and Wii U only make up 1.3% of sales.

The total amount earned last quarter on the Wii and Wii U was 9 million. Sales from games on Nintendo's handhelds only accounted for 0.7%. In comparison, sales on the PS3 (18.8%) and Xbox 360(24%) were much higher. Mobile games made up 10.8% of sales and PlayStation handhelds 1.0%. PC dominated with 39.4%

It is worth noting that EA's most recent releases on the Wii U and Wii were Need for Speed: Most Wanted (Wii U), in March, and FIFA 14 (Wii) which was the same game as FIFA 13, but with updated rosters.

This just seems like bad press for Nintendo...and it's not even good bad press. So they stop supporting the system and make no new games for it then bash nintendo for games not selling well? Hmmm yeah makes perfect sense!

When every game you have released on the system has in some way either been gimped or delayed by 6 months I'm amazed they managed to reach 1%

Honestly 1.3% is pretty good considering the only thing they released.  .7% from 3DS shows their not even trying.

Though to tell you the truth I'm really Surprise about the 39.4% for PC.  I guess the Sim line is still strong.

This is an EA failing, not a Wii U failing. In order to sell a game for the Wii U, EA would have to actually RELEASE a game for the Wii U.

EA could have easily gotten my money if they had made a complete Mass Effect Trilogy, Battlefield 4, and a Dead Space Collection for the Wii U with full DLC support, but since they choose to be the assholes that they are then they will not get a penny from me ever again.

Pretty sure the only 3DS game they released last quarter was also FIFA 14, which was the FIFA launch game with updated rosters. And they had the unmitigated GALL to pull the equivalent of SMT IV pricing in the one market it might have sold in (Europe - 50 pounds/euros).

ZombiU sucked, Rayman Legends was delayed for eight months for no reason, and we're not getting any of the DLC for Ass Creed 4. Don't make it sound like Ubisoft is Nintendo's staunchest ally.

I am not making it sounds like anything.

It's the truth. Ubi and in somewhat lesser sense -- Activision, these two are the only big third parties left who still bother with Wii U.

We (and me) may hate Ubisoft for delaying Rayman, but they still are releasing their premier titles on it.

According to this, EA has had roughly 50 individual releases this year with 3 being for Nintendo systems. This is just pettiness.

It's a shame that Need for Speed didn't sell better. Decent game from all accounts, even if it was released four months too late so that nobody really cared anymore.  But I can't look at anything else EA released on Wii U and think it's worth buying - whether due to timing, releasing notably better and/or cheaper versions of the same game on other platforms at the same time or earlier, or simply releasing games that aren't of good quality.


Maybe Wii U releases were doomed to fail regardless - given the small install base and fickle buying habits of Nintendo "faithful" that's entirely possible. But in the case of EA it seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy to me.

I plan on getting NFS when I get a system. It's around $18 new on Amazon. That is a nice thing about having 3rd party titles release on a Nintendo console: their prices drop much faster and farther than Nintendo's own releases. But that isn't good for 3rd parties who rely on initial sales and don't look to create Evergreen titles.
