Shows you how small of a threat they see Nintendo as on the next generation console front.

Personally, I'm pumped about this; anyone who doesn't think good things will come out of this is blinding themselves with fervent fanboism.  Given that they're expected to have titles ready at launch that both look unbelievable, my guess is that MS made the decision to push the Rare games back to the next generation back when it was apparent they weren't going to win this generation (which was a while ago).

Using the DS to help topple the PSP and also make DS gamers (especially Japanese) aware of Microsoft Games, is a good way for MS to help establish awareness for its brands, therefore selling more 360's (especially in Japan).  A trojan horse of sorts into the Japanese gaming enviroment, selling graphically inferior ports of its established console franchises that give you a taste of what the 360 gonna offer.

The only drawback is that the DS offers free multiplayer wifi/lan and MS has Live which cost money to play multiplayer....
that could be a potential downer for sales of the console version, unless you are already a 360 owner & Live subscriber.

That kind of thinking brought us way too many new enemies because "my enemy's enemy" might turn on me after our enemy is gone. See Bin-Laden or Hussein. You really don't want to continue to apply that logic.
