Nintendo Gaming / RE:Cartridge cases
« on: December 21, 2003, 05:48:49 PM »
I use some MadCatz cases called GameBLOX (lame name I know).

http://ebgames.com/ebx/product/234079.asp

They link together so if you have a bunch of games you don't need to dig around to find them.  Just keep them all linked together, and pop off the ones you are going to take with your.  The only thing I don't like about them is you can't buy a pack of just one color.  All the packs I have seen have had two clear, 3 blue, and 3 black cases.  You can see threw all of them, but it is near impossible to read the labels on any games in the black ones.  The clear ones are the best, but you only get two of them in a freaking pack.  But at $4.99 it is only like $.60 per case.  I have gotten two sets.  I am putting my newer, more played games in the clear ones, and my older games in the blue ones.  I don't have enough games to even have to use the black ones yet, but in a few months I am sure I will get four more games.  Right now there are ten in the cases and one in my SP.  They make about to be about 6-7 inches long when they are linked up, and as long as you aren't swinging them around it holds pretty well.

Plus you can do the wave with them, and they make a cool flippy noise .

That and super mario land 1 was horrible.  Well maybe that is a bit harsh.  But not anything I would ever buy again.

Here is what I want.

Super Mario Bros. 4.  Or maybe 5 if you count Super Mario World as 4.  Give us a new classic style mario platformer!!  I mean Mario & Luigi looks cool, but I want more old school mario!

The hardware is already there.  I have a USB adapter that lets me use my gamecube controllers on my PC.  Someone could write software that lets the GBA play online using a GBA>GC link cable.

Just need someone with the right know-how.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Game Boy Player availability
« on: June 26, 2003, 08:06:18 PM »
I got lucky and EBgames.com had it with free shipping.  I would have gotten it at a brick and mortor store by when I went in they haddn't come in yet, and I work all week so I figured free shipping and I don't have to go to the mall.  Of course while I was shopping online I got BF1942 as well, so I ended up spending more money anyway.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: GBA Games Worth It?
« on: June 24, 2003, 08:29:36 PM »
Thats a hard one.  You see the GBP and Zelda are well worth the $50.  The GBP itself isn't a game however, so you will end up spending more money on games and stuff.  Plus side is that GBA games are cheap as dirt.  You can get used ones for around 10 bucks.

So if you have only $50 get zelda, because it is a single payment for a great game.  But if you have more money to get the GBA games go for the GBP because in the long run you will get more fun out of it.  In a perfect world you could get both.  Much like me!!  Not to brag or anything .

Man I was hooked on that game in high school.  I was the head of my System and I had to do some serious double dealing to keep my seat of power.  Some people in my system started getting pissy with me so I had a friend from another system go and beat the living crap out of him.  Stole all but two of his asteroids.  Then we organized a counter attack (gee what happend to all the defence )and got most of them back.  But by that time the guy had just left so the system got to split the roids.  Then I organized a civil war within my system.  It was so fun messing with everyone's heads.  I think it was the only time I have ever been a true jerk in a multiplayer game.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Super Mario Advance 4 will be...
« on: May 19, 2003, 04:50:31 PM »
Man I must be a sucker.  I own all the mario games on NES and SNES and I have been eating up the Advance line like it's candy.  That includes All Stars.  So I own at least two copies of every pre N64 Mario game.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: SMA4 looks FUNKED UP!
« on: May 16, 2003, 11:38:17 AM »
This is going to be what keeps the e-Reader around.

The only problem I see is that it is going to require two GBAs.  Not a huge problem for me because I have my old GBA and my new GBA SP, but for many it might be trouble.  But I guess Nintendo think everyone is already going to own 2 or 3 GBAs in order to play Four Swords and Tetra's Trackers

I realize that it is now a forgoten tech, but a few years ago there was a bunch of hype about these tiny little discs that they were going to use in MP3 players.  The tech was called DataPlay, and it was only about as big as a quarter.  I think they came in 256meg, 512meg, and maybe 1gig sizes.  It took them to long to get it to market and HD Mp3 players came out first.  So it just kinda died.  I think there was only one or two players that supported it.

That would be a killer medium for a handheld game system though.  Just make sure that there is hardware support for mp3 decoding or some other good audio compression, that way you don't have the whole disc full of music.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: New Bundle better than price drop

I assume it doesn't come with a free game anymore then?

I hope this game is a budget title.  If they expect you to have all that hardware I would hope they would give you a break on the game cost.

Nintendo of America Vice President Perrin Kaplan didn't seem too concerned during an interview at E3. "We really don't know that much about it, and it's going to be 18 months before anyone sees one," Kaplan said of the PSP. "A lot can happen in 18 months."

Does that just sound like a huge tease to anyone else?
You know what Sony has done to me?  Gotten me Hyped about the new GAMEBOY not their PSP.

Considering that all the games on All-Stars have already been ported to the GBA (except SMB1, which was done on the GBC.  I don't think the Lost Levels have been ported either) I would doubt that this game would contain all of those games.  What I do think is going on is that Nintendo is taking elements of those games, and mixing them into the SMB3 world.  Either added to the old levels, or added as bonus levels.  It may even be the case that my idea from several months ago of a SMB3 with an entirely new world/set of worlds might be coming our way.  Think about it.  You beat Bowser in World 8, and instead of going to credits there is some sort of little cut scene, and then you go to World 9!  The extra worlds would have elements of SMB2 and SMW in them.  Like the turnips and the cape.  Yoshi would get in on the action as well.  As long as there is an option to play the original levels they could even add these things to the current set of SMB3 levels.  It would change how the game was played, making for my replay value.

This would also feed everyone's need for a new Mario game on the GBA, but would be even better because you would be getting the best mario game along with it, and it would play very similar to the best.

What I really want to know is if the Comunication option that PGC said was disabled in the demo does.  Is it just for playing link battles?  Perhaps there is something else it can do.  You could do a set up where one play is Luigi, and the other is Mario.  Players would play the same level at the same time and have to race to the finish.  The winner (either by time or coins collected) would then get to control the overworld and and pick the next stage.  This would be such a freaking cool feature.

I really hope there is a classic option.  So I can play the original in all its glory.  Later I can freak it out with some funky fresh new moves.

Well Nintendo is planning on a 2005 launch of their next home console right?  I would expect the next Gameboy to lauch around the same time.  Nintendo has stated that they won't let sony and microsoft get a head start on them the next round.  Unless sony is farther along then they seem to be at this point it is unlikely that they will launch in 2004.  Meaning that the new GB and the PSP might be releasing within months of eachother.

I fear that portable gaming market will become a stream of lame games full of CG FMV.  I mean what else is going to take up almost 2gigs of space?  Textures?  Not with that resolution.  It would enable developers to make ever level of a game totally diferant than the ones before it, not rehashing elements to keep the space down.  But that does take time and money to do.  What other game related reason is there for MPEG-4 playback?

As far as why Sony is talking about this now, one word, hype.   They want to hype up the PSP so people will wait and NOT buy gameboys.  It is a bit of a catch 22, because if Nintendo lets loose with the plans for the next uber-gameboy it will have the same effect, lower GBA sales.  Sony may not even have any hardware yet.  But we all know about it don't we?  We are all talking about Sony's next system, and on a Nintendo board no less!  Sony had to release this info in order to take the wind out of the GBA+GC link up wirlwind that Nintendo is trying to stir up.  I hope that by this time next year, at E3 (or maybe Spaceworld(if there even is a spaceworld anymore)), Nintendo will unleash some hand heald whoopass.

18
I know that it is 8 players, but why not 8 gamecubes, and 8 TVs?!  That would be really awsome.  No way would I ever find  8 people around here with gamecubes, and BBAs and extra TVs, but the OPTION to do so would be cool.  Plus I could see arcades setting up rooms were people could play.  Shoot 8 GCs, and 8 TVs would still be cheaper than a few Arcade cabnits.  And I bet they would make a killing.

Everyone already knows that there is a new gameboy in development.
One thing that I think is really going to determine this thing is price.  Reading the specs on that thing, everything just sounds really expensive.  If I have to pick between a $200+ PSP, and a $100-150 GB-X I am going with Nintendo.

Also I think it is important for Nintendo to be sure to keep up the backwards compatability with the gameboy.  Use some of the really choice GBA titles to sell the system.  It would help a lot at launch.  Just as with the PS2 playing PS1 games.  One of the biggest things that hurt the N64 was a huge lack of launch titles.  I think there were like four games out for the first month of that system.

The GB/GBC were like portable a NES.
The GBA is like a portable SNES (but a little better)
If Nintendo can make a system that is as powerful as the N64, without some of that systems faults, I think they would be near unbeatable.  With such a small screen you aren't going to be able to display much more complex graphics than that anyway.

In the past they have tried to keep the $100 launch price.  I think they could moved it up to $150, but used that 50 to really flesh out the system and remove anything people could nitpick about.  Keep is about the same size as the GBA SP (folding is an awsome idea, i say stick to it).  Make sure it has a lit screen, headphone jack(no adapters), rechargable battery (the same or better life than the GBA-SP, or even an option to use one of those fancy micro fuel cells that are being developed for laptops! *drool*), a wireless link as well as wired one (gotta keep that for the old games/GC links).

I am sure Nintendo has already thought of all of these things, and probably some better ones.  I just hope they make the right decision and go for the gusto instead of the bottom line.  The gameboy has a history that cannot be undone, I just hope Nintendo doesn't think they are cemented at the top of the portable hill.  If they aren't careful that great history might be all that is left of the Game Boy in a few years.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: SMB 3 announced..with LAN play
« on: May 12, 2003, 06:46:24 PM »
I loves the LAN idea.  Personally I haven't played a game online in almost a year.  I just don't have fun playing faceless people who more often than not act like goof tards.  I might as well just play against the computer AI (and the AI doesn't cheat!).  LAN gaming on the other hand I love.  There is nothing better screaming across the room and the person you just smeared.  Being able to actually talk with your teamates is a big thing (I suppose that is why Xbox Live has it standard).

If a game has both LAN and Online functions great, but I will most likely play the LAN part more often.

Oh I didn't know there was another video floating around.  I am downloading it now!

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Advance Wars.....why not?
« on: May 11, 2003, 02:16:31 PM »
Some day I need to push my way through and finish the campaign in Advance Wars.  I got to what I think is the 2/3 mark and just stopped for some reason.  But I suppose Super Puzzle Fighter 2 has something to do with it .

Nintendo really needs to just stop making game for about a year.  At this rate I am never going to be able to save up enough money to move into my own place.
