I love how everyone mocks this list... If they did a similar poll of the US it would be...

I'd take the Japanese top 10 over what would be the American top 10 any day.

sorry pale but thats a little inaccurate, there would be plenty of Halo, Doom, and Mortal Kombat on there as well. Also a lto of Americans like more than just Madden and GTA. wait I didnt even see Mortal Kombat on the Japanese list, so they suck yeah tahstall I gotta say.

I was being somewhat silly with my post, as it would actually have a lot to do with who you poll. If you did it on the internet, Nintendo would probably do quite well. If you did a random exit poll of people leaving your local ebgames, and I bet my guess would be pretty accurate.

Rat is right about Halo though, I forgot that one.

i wasnt serious either, thats why I mentioned MK and Halo, but I LIKE Mortal Kombat alot, to me its way up there as one of my all time games (series) Halo is good but not best game ever good.

It is hard to rank video games though, in all fairness, because every game is a unigue experience.

if you asked me to list the top 100 games of all time, imo, ONLY Final Fantasy 7 would even be on the list, I didnt like the others excwept 3 I liked 3 (6) but not enough to rank it veryhigh... hmm... that gives me an idea, Pale, your a mod or whatever right? is it ok by PGC rules if we haev our own top 100 games of all time list and share it with others or is that considered poling?

RailPGs are heavily overrepresented in that list. At least the mainstream games in the west have the gameplay to deserve their spot but those top-rated RailPGs don't even seem to be the ones with good gameplay. And hell, 22nd place for FF8, the worst FF ever?

Pale: EB Games is still not a good sample, they seem to sell less to the casual gamers and those that care about how much they pay or those who don't want to deal with tiny selections, cramped floors and employees that always think they know better than you what you want.

Naah, looked like a girl to me. But I'm absolutely sure she has Down's Syndrome. Hey, Final Fantasy X: Down's Syndrome! That sounds like a DS port. I shouldn't give S-E any ideas.

You can compile a list and link it in your signature but generally asking people for their oppinions on a subject like "best games ever" is polling.

KDR, i was trying to give opposite ends of the spectrum with the internet vs. ebgames thing... I agree that neither would be good samples.

EBGames is still too hardcore, Walmart is frequented by all demographics so while you'd have many people that can't give you any answers at all you'd still have a fairly even distribution (and you'd weed out many younger gamers that would call anything they have gotten recently as the best game ever). And since you may encounter a lot of former gamers that stopped gaming after controllers started having two different buttons you would get a lot of votes for ancient classics like Pac-Man and Tetris.
