If Nintendo included third party games in their directs then they might get better sales. Although there are not going to be enough of them to warrant their use in Nintendo Directs.

Watch Dogs will probably be the last Wii U third party game. If Arkham Knight is any indication then this year's Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed will skip the Wii U, 360 and PS3. The Wii U's success is now up to Nintendo.

Too bad they do not have anything like that for the Xbox One and PS4 controllers.

The NSMB series would have gotten better reception if Nintendo did not insist on making Bowser and his ilk the main baddies in every entry. The 3DS game should have had Wario (Waluigi instead of Bowser, jr.) as the main villain and the Wii U game could used Wart or some other bad guy to kidnap Peach.

As for the Wii U vs Vita, the Wii U will ultimately win due to it being a Nintendo console. If Nintendo combines their checkbook with the first party titles that have been on the back burner for the last few decades then the Wii U will be successful. It appears as though Sony has given up on the Vita and has reduced it to nothing more than an accessory for the PS4.

Jonny, how many Wii U games do you own and how much on the HDD do they take up?

It's going to be difficult to determine the success of this game. If I am an owner of a PS360 and have been loyal to the Arkham series all along am I going to pay $400.00+ dollars for one game? The PS4 just crossed six million mark but how does this compare to the combined user base of the older consoles? The bigger question is whether it will make it the Wii U?

I would forgive Warner Brothers on the condition they make the DLC for Arkham Origins available on the Wii U.

The Wii U gamepad controller is so ingrained into the identity of the console that it would make more sense to forgo the entire system rather than simply discontinue the controller. The amount of work it would take to rebuild the OS of the system to negate the gamepad would be a waste of time and resources on Nintendo's part. I would rather they devote as much of their effort towards software, universal system account, and the Virtual Console as possible. Besides, without the gimmick the Wii U is nothing more than a cheap imitation of older consoles.

As for Nintendo's casual titles, Nintendo needs ten more hard core titles that are just a good, if not better, than X and Bayonetta 2.

Considering that the Wii U versions of past Batman titles must sold some where between terrible and abysmal it makes sense for this game to skip the Wii U. However, the fact that it is skipping the PS3 and 360 tells me that they are forcing people to buy the new console. Although considering how many people own the old consoles versus the newer ones if enough people raised Hell they could get this game ported over to the PS360, and maybe the Wii U, the Montreal team.

The Wii U will gain more momentum in each market as long as Nintendo can offer an ample supply of first party titles for the system. I mentioned this before, but if Nintendo could offer a Gamepad revision in Japan that was smaller like a Vita and bundled it with a Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, and Pokemon game then it would probably take off.

A reboot of the Metroid series in the style of last year's Tomb Raider and a 2D sequel for the 3DS. They could reuse assets from the DKCR/TF to make the 3DS Metroid Game and build the Wii U Metroid from scratch. The rebooted Metroid would tell the tale of a young Samus as she is stranded on a planet and has to rise up to be  bounty hunter.

62
If Nintendo can continue to pump out more high quality first party titles then it will spur sales and attract more third party support. Let's be honest, the Wii U is not going to be home to large number of third party games, but the Wii U could get games that are exclusively to it such as No More Heroes 3, Shin Megami Tensai 5, and many others.

As for the Wii U and Vita's identity crisis, the two consoles are suffering mainly because they are the start of a new class of systems in the industry. The new class consists of bridging the gap between the home console and handheld, and many people are not excepting of this at first.

63
The Vita would have been a bigger threat had Sony used normal SD cards. As for the Wii U, it is not even en eighth generation home console and because of this it competes more with the Vita for market share than with any other console. The Wii U and Vita are competing for the title of "Dreamcast 2" and which ever one wins, and it seems likely it will be Wii U, gets the crown.

Could it be argued that Sony has abandoned the Vita?

64
Perhaps the most two out casted consoles in the industry today are the Playstation Vita and the Wii U. Both suffer from less than spectacular sales and get potentially no third party support to amount to anything. They are, for the most part, strictly first party only systems when it comes to games with a smattering of decent third party games.

Which of the two consoles will have the best future?

Nintendo Gaming / Re: What will this year be the year of for Nintendo?
« on: February 23, 2014, 11:24:42 PM »
While my heart tells me that Metroid needs its own year, with the reveal of Little Mac in Smash Brothers tells me that Punch-Out! needs its own year. What I would like to see is a game for the 3DS with the SNES style graphics blended with modern fighting mechanics of the recent Wii game. Add in some stereoscopic 3D and comic book cut scenes and it is a recipe for a quality 3DS game.

66
If enough people buy this game for Wii U then it might teach third parties to support the Wii U on the eShop exclusively. Perhaps there is less financial risk in bypassing retail for the Wii U?

Despite the financial success of the PS4, Sony's fate is still up in the air. They are still hemorrhaging money right now. I read an article that gave them a 78% chance of going bankrupt. It is really indicative of the health of the industry when a company like Sony is hurting. By the time the PS5 is released Sony will be answering to a mother company. Who ever that is is debatable?

no offense, but we need sources.
my main interest is will Sony spin off their movie Division before filing, or will Disney be able to get that Spiderman franchise back in a bankruptcy sale or something.

I can not post links anymore due to my low karma. My word will have to be taken at face value. Disney will eventually gobble up the film rights to all of their Marvel IPs sooner or later.

January's always a slow month, I'm not taking this to mean much yet.

I think one big problem is how expensive everything is. The Wii is the only system at $99.99, but everyone already has one of those (and the Mini is less desirable than the previous model). Most every other system is a lot more expensive. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are both still $199.99, or even higher for the better bundles. The XBONE is just ridiculous at $499.99, and I'm honestly surprised and disappointed that the PS3 is selling well at $399.99. The Wii U is still probably priced too high for its targeted market also. The 2DS should really be $99.99 to capture that children's/second system market.

Software prices are generally too high as well, especially on Wii U and 3DS.

We have reached a point where Nintendo needs to offer deals on their eShop games. This is especially true for 3DS games. The issue is that the gaming industry is too expensive for everyone and this is why they are moving towards smartphones because it is cheaper.

Scuttlebutt is: January WiiU = 50K. Ruh ro.

But, more interesting, there was a huge collapse for everything, besides the possibly supply constrained PS4. PS3 and Xbox 360 collapsing. Supposedly only one game sold above 100K for the month on any console, which hasn't happened in years.

Also, 3DS is rumored to be looking surprisingly unhealthy.

If this is true then the industry is heading for collapse.

999 and VLR had some mind blowing story twists. I hope the sequel gets made some how........

Nintendo could offer to publish/finance the game as a Wii U title since it needs all the games it can get at this point.

72
Considering how the Wii U needs games this game will be out in all territories by the end of the year.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Are indie games the "New" 3rd party?

Nintendo should just hand over the keys to the Wii U and 3DS to indie developers.

74
Nintendo should have just released the name of the game at this point to help word of mouth push interest in it.
