Sam & Max: Hit the Road
« on: May 11, 2007, 06:01:45 PM »
I am in desperate need of this game. Should I:

- Buy a used copy of the original DOS game for $20-30
- Buy a never-opened copy of the Windows XP-compatible re-release for $20-$30.
- Download the game from an abandonware site.
- Get Grim Fandango instead
- Stop making illegal polls

It's sold for 10€ here, they just rereleased it, Full Throttle, Monkey Island 3 and Grim Fandango for 10€ each.

If you use ScummVM you can play even the old DOS game on any system (including PDAs, some cellphones and a DS with a flashcart), no need for any updated versions of the game itself.

Ah, thanks! This is excellent news. I've found a European copy that I can acquire for $20, including shipping.

I knew about ScummVM, but I had forgotten there was a DS version. Hmm. Now I'm leaning towards getting the DOS version of the game, just so I can play it on the DS.

I'd expect the Windows version to work in ScummVM as well, I'm just saying that there's no advantage to a Windows version.

You might want to make sure your version is in the proper language, PC games are usually translated and re-voiced for each language and have only that language on the disc.

I'm so ego-centric I automatically assume that all games are in English, aka the true language.

That was originally a poll option but I thought the mods would frown on such talk. I forgot the funhouse is a place where rules and laws do not apply.

I wasn't talking about you.  Wandering and I have a friend named Kushrenada, one that I really have been wanting him to bug.  Are you so egotistical that anytime anyone says anything remotely similar to your name, you think it has to do with you?

Well, for what it's worth, our friend Kushrenada jumped off of a cliff because Wandering antagonized the wrong person.  See, Kushrenada thinks being antagonized is a way of showing people care about him.  When Wandering didn't show up to make fun of his name, he believed absolutely no one loved him.  It was a sad day for the Slavinykle family.
