NWR Forums Discord / Chatroom Mafia - When should we play?
« on: December 27, 2007, 10:46:48 PM »
Let us say that a super-short game of mafia is going to take place (on either Volity, or the NWR chatroom) on Wednesday, January 9th. Would you be able to play on that date? If you could, what times would you be able/unable to play?

NWR Forums Discord / Werewolf: a game of mafia
« on: December 23, 2007, 08:44:19 PM »
I want to try a mafia game that takes minutes to play instead of weeks. Volity has an implementation of the game (which they call Werewolf) that would allow us to do this.

Would any of you interested in playing, and willing to download Volity's client software? When do you think the game should start?

NWR Forums Discord / I'm planning on having 100 kids
« on: December 20, 2007, 09:14:14 PM »
Hold on, you say. You're really going to raise a hundred children?

No. Who said anything about raising them?

But wandering, you protest. Aren't you worried about overpopulation?

Yes. Why do you think I want so many kids? When the world gets too crowded and people start dying from starvation and stuff en masse, I don't want all my descendants to die.

So. I need people who want to bear some of my children. Any volunteers?

General Chat / Anyone want to help me with homework?
« on: December 09, 2007, 05:19:49 PM »
I would be most grateful.

I have to interview somebody about their job. I need somebody who's willing to answer a few questions about work, and give me their real name.

Anyone who's interested: please reply in this thread, or PM me, with your job title.

Also, the screen keeps flickering out.

I should probably start thinking about getting a new computer.

General Chat / Rifftrax
« on: November 29, 2007, 08:35:35 PM »
Have you ever found yourself watching a stinker like Episode I or Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and thinking "Man, I wish I was watching this with commentary by the Mystery Science Theater crew. Too bad that's not possible." Well, guess what? It is! Kind of.

Mike Nelson has a service called Rifftrax, through which you can get commentaries to a bunch of big-name (and small-name) films. Pay them a modest fee, and you'll get a (drm free!) audio file that contains a commentary that can be synced up to a DVD. The commentaries always feature Mike, and often feature one or two of his co-stars from MST3k.

The commentaries are hilarious and well worth the asking price. (Just don't expect Mystery Science Theater. It's nearly as good - at least, in my opinion - but it's different. Rifftrax has it's own unique flavor.)

We've watched three so far: Fellowship of the Ring (brilliant! I laughed non-stop the whole three hours) (oh, if you're wondering why they did a commentary for Lord of the Rings, well, they make fun of good movies too.) Star Wars: Episode III (not as good as FoTR, I guess because Episode III is such an easy target, but still great), and Plan 9 From Outer Space (the only one I don't recommend. It's the cheapest commentary on the site for a reason: Mike made it for a dvd release before he started Rifftrax, and, while there are some good lines, it's not up to Rifftrax standards.) Next on the list is Star Trek V.

Buy a commentary. Watch it with friends. I guarantee good times.

The upshot of this is that they're selling all their movies for $3 each

I got like 20

People like Garry Kasparov suck all the fun out of chess by thinking 50 moves ahead. Why can't they just play like normal people?

I want to follow Ian's advice, and shed my ignorance. I want to familiarize myself with games that came out before my time. The trouble is, I don't know how. I don't want to buy VC games because they're overly laden with DRM. I don't want to download ROMS because I don't like to steal. I'd buy games off Ebay, but prices there are generally kind of high.

What should I do?

When I decided to become straight edge, I thought I'd never go back. I was wrong.

Last night, I took a mind altering drug. I drank an herbal tea that contained valerien. (Valerian root - an ingredient in the draught of living death - is a mild sedative.)

Nintendo Gaming / Mafia - starting badwagons
« on: September 13, 2007, 03:04:58 AM »
I'm not very good at getting other players to vote with me, and was wondering if anyone had any tips? Starting a successful bandwagon is often a bad idea, however, sometimes it's necessary for survival.
