And another thing.  What is with this irrational desire to put voice acting in everything?  The only voice acting in Zelda ever were those awful CD-I games and I think we all want Nintendo to distance themselves as much as possible from those travesties.

Voice acting in general blows.  I mean the best it can be in any game is "not crappy".  So why do all these steampunk fanfiction writers stay up at 4am waiting for a Zelda announcement that they know will never be what they envision because nobody wants Starfighter Link making a pass at a Death Star and having him yell out "Win one for the Gipper" speeches.

Even good voice actors can do a sub-par job, and I think a lot of that depends upon the VO Director (I believe that's the name of the job). A great actor could ham up well-written dialogue without realizing it, and if the VO director doesn't realize the tone of the scene, realize the one actor's problem, and effectively describe the problem to the actor so s/he can do a better job, then the voice acting will still suck.

I remember playing a ton of the voice clips on the Nintendo Star Fox site. Those were the days.

The voice acting in Star Fox 64 was fantastic.

The voice acting in the Japanese version was even better.

It was one of the very few import games I played as a kid, but I remember it fondly.  Slippy yelling something that sounds like FOX DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEE when you crash is burned into my brain for all time.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

I thought Slippy said something to the effect of "Ba-ba-do-ba-bat"

The only voice acting I remember is "USE THE BOOST TO GET THROUGH!" from the fat **** of a hare.

Really? I played that game so much i can almost recite the damn script from beginning to end.. its pretty bad actually lol Even just thinking "USE THE BOOST TO GET THROUGH!" i can visualize the exact scene in the game where it happened.

How can you forget such classic lines as:

"are you gonna listen to that monkey!?!" - Falco
"Sorry.. but we gotta jet ;)" - Fox
"You can't defeat me, I've got a better ship!" -Pigma*
"what the HECK was THAT!" -Falco

and the dreaded...

"FOX! GET THIS GUY OFF ME!" -Slippy

The best voice acting in the game is in the speech that explains the back story that plays before you start the game.

Voice acting was amazing in:
-Eternal Darkness
-MGS: Twin Snakes
-Deus Ex
-The Wing Commander Series (at least the ones I played)

...And many others. Games can get voice acting right if they actually put the effort into it.

But Zelda games don't need voice acting. I think the quiet subtle charm of the text is just fine.

And how could you forget "Slippy's not such a screw-up after all!"?
"OK, first we need someone to complain about something trivial. Golden or S_B should do. Then we get someone to defend the game, like Bill or Mashiro. Finally add some Unclebob or Pro666 randomness and the thread should go to hell right away." -Pap64
