board game references in video games?
« on: April 23, 2013, 11:31:18 AM »
So I finally started to play Virtue's Last Reward on my 3DS.  Looking forward to the messed up story and laughable logic, especially after finding 999 so enjoyable.

One thing that did surprise me early on was a small in-joke that referenced a (relatively) popular hobby board game called Agricola. How big will the audience be that gets this joke? Likely not very large, because even though games such as Catan and Carcassonne and Dominion have expanded the audience for hobby board games, most people don't know or care about anything beyond mainstream/kids stuff they grew up with like Risk/Monopoly/Game of Life...

Can anyone think of other board game references within a video game?

I own a couple of versions of Monopoly.  Does that count? :D
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.
