I don't think they should lower the price for quite some time if they don't have to.

They should cut the price of the wii in the summer.  For one reason, domination.  They need to act cuthroat like Sony and Microsoft and take the market for storm the way the PS2 did.  And they can do it.  They just need to A.  Get supply fixed.  I think in March or April you should finally be able to go in a store and buy a wii.  That gives them a few months to build up supply again.

B.  Lower the price.  $199 looks alot better than $249.  Realistically the wii should have started at $300, but it's too late now.  During the summer Microsoft should get the arcade to at least $249 and that have quite a bit of momentum in the US as well.

So while packins are a decent way to add value, I think the $ is the most important thing.

It'll be come stickied again if they start releasing good games on a normal basis.  But I do have one question.  The baseball game for the Neo Geo looks decent.  I loved Ken Griffey Jr. for the SNES but I still own that.  Is the Neo Geo one similiar?  Better?  Okay, I lied about the one question.  In addition does it play over component cables?  Because I'm not going to unhook my cables just to play a game.

I'd also worry about the motion sensing.  But what I'd really be worried about is throwing the nunchuck at my plasma tv.  I've had a couple of slips with the wiimote, but the strap catches it.  What is going to catch this nunchuck in a game that requires motion for both?

Bah, I don't trust them.

Bah, not only that, they seem to be over charging sales tax (wtf?)  It's bad enough that it's 7.75%, but how do they figure $8.21 on a $99.98 purchase?

They are charging you sales tax on the shipping as well.  Most online retailers do it to increase revenue.

Hey you and me both.  I only own a wii and my gaming budget is $360 a year.  But anyways, I really think a hardcore gamer (which I'm not) plays at least 20 hours a week and averages getting at least 2 games a month.  I know $50 is a lot of money but it's tough to go out on a date, or even to the bar drinking one night for less than that.  As such, hardcore gamers will find the funds.

If you are truly "hardcore" you wouldn't care about sales or systems period.  This is because you'd own them all, Wii included, and probably don't hesitate to spend $50 or $60 when a good game comes out (surprise the wii has a few).

The Hardcore that fanboys bring up is just to hold Nintendo to child-like status.

You might have your wii going bad.  Do you use connect24?  Supposedly the wii would overheat if left in wiiconnect24 mode before recent wii updates corrected the problem.  Try a graphic intensive game.  Something like Strikers, Corruption, RE 4, or something along those lines.  See if the scattering increases.  If so, you'll need to send your wii into Nintendo to fix.  I had my wii replaced last month for a similiar issue.  First game I noticed was with RE 4.  Green pixels/lines everywhere.  Eventually it got bad enough that I noticed effects in the Wii menu/Wii Sports.  Note, for Strikers it was black pixels and for the wii menu it was white pixels.  It seemed to change based on the game but either way not picture was shown on those pixels.

Only wanting to overpay for a game once, which ecco version should I get?  I haven't found a good comparative review on websites.

Also, nobody can probably help me out, but I was looking for a snes game.  I remember it using the mode 7 chip.  It was a racing game in the same vein as mario kart.  I don't think their was shooting items at each other and I don't remember jump turns.  All I do remember is that their was 8 player racing, you actually qualified for each track, you could jump fairly high (don't remember the point), and the main guy (at least the guy I raced with) drove a bi-wing plane.  Their was also a decent soccer mode (kick with the karts) and the laps were customizable (3,5,7,9 lap races).  Seeing as there is little to no hope of a vc release I was looking for help remembering the name to pick it up for my still functioning snes.  Any help?

Having owned this last year, this will be at least a rental.  It was a solid game last year, but there is three things I need to have improved to buy the game.

1.  Menu operation.  Seriously, what was wrong last year.  You need to use the pointer, A, B, 1, & 2 buttons (plus nunchuck).  It's annoying as crap as about as un-intiutive as you can get.

2.  Defensive selection.  The pointer would get much smaller as if you were going down the field.  This made it difficult to select the Safety positions.  It should be just point and click.

3.  QB thowing with the wimote.  Seemed not quite as accurate as I've experienced in prior madden's.  Particularly the snap and throw.  Those all ended up as wounded ducks not close to the mark.

Why don't they add a simple name editor like in Ken Griffey Jr? Or at least make up names for Tecmo Super Bowl?  Tecmo Super Bowl has the stat tracking.  As such, it would be pretty annoying to see #34, #34, #28, #35, #24 as the leading rushers.  The NFL liscence doesn't really matter since they really only use the the nicknames on the pre-game screen.  Otherwise though, Tecmo Super Bowl is so solid I'd probably buy it for NES or SNES if they'd release it without any Nfl things.

I wanted to set up a closed circuit televevision.  But I wanted to do it as cheaply as possible.  As such, we have a mini-dv camcorder that isn't of the highest quality, and I have a 20" tv that I will end up replacing in my houshold.  I only want to transmit the signal approximatley 20' away.  My question is could I buy some wires and get this connection going dirt cheap(with existing equipment) or is the only way to set up a CCTV network to buy one for at least $1000 from what I've been looking at?

I have a couple of questions about the vc.

1.  I downloaded Mario Kart 64.  It doesn't seem to be saving the gold medals that I receive at tracks.  (New to the 64 version) I have beaten Mushroom cup three times and haven't seen the gold cup on the track selection screen.  Does anyone else have this issue?  This would mean I'll never see mirror or any other unlockable.

2.  I downloaded Super Mario Bros.  The first thing I noticed is that occasionally on-screen characters may briefly flash or dissapear for a second.  Not that big of a deal but I don't know why this would happen on an emulator.  On an 86 NES sure, but I can't imagine that flaw would be built into the software.  Second, I never owned the original but it seems as if I can only duck by pressing straight down.  So if I press down right, Mario will not move but will be standing in place.  Is this the same as the original?  I was trying to get to minus world and it was making it very difficult to complete the ducking jump.

I don't like the way the game looks.  Showing how to hold the controllers slows the game down quite a bit.  In addition the difficulty seems DS like (very easy).  The GBA games owned the DS game.  And that appears to be the case with the wii.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Temptation of Greed for Wii?
« on: May 19, 2006, 04:39:32 PM »
Yeah software plays a big part of the revenue for the revolution.  However, I don't think the systems price will affect sales for the first two years.  The first year it'll sell out.  The second year will be all about the software, and the third year the price will start affecting it.

My argument wasn't 100% sound I just think Nintendo has proven that money drives them in the past.  Remember that worthless $20 memory card on the gamecube?  Yeah we have the cheapest system but we nickle and dime you on all the accessories.  That's why I think it's a dream to see controllers cheaper than $40.  Bottom line they are more expensive to produce than the 360 controllers which are wireless xbox 1 controllers.  And Nintendo sees them as a greater value as well.  I wouldn't be too shocked to see $50 for the controller/nunchuck.  And I seriously doubt a bundle is coming from Nintendo.

We all think price will bring in the non-gamers.  That's absolutely untrue.  Nintendo isn't starting a welfare program for homeless people.  Look at the gamecube.  The deal last Christmas was a gamecube, 2 controllers, and a game for $99.  That's an incredible deal.  What happened?  The gamecube outsells the xbox because everyone is trying to find the xbox 360.  Non-gamer doesn't mean finding the people that think gaming is too expensive.  It means creating a medium that will drive new individuals to a unique system that weren't interested before.  They are looking for the people that buy thousand dollar computers, Hundred dollar cell phones, thousand dollar tv's and sound systems.  They aren't marketing the product for someone who has trouble paying the bills.  Food or games.  Tough choice (sarcasm).

So it sucks.  But I've already convinced myself that I'll drop $450 on the revolution at launch(includes games).  It sucks but they are in the business of making money and they've already sold me on the features.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Temptation of Greed for Wii?

Yes, people will buy more at a lower price.  Unfortunately I think the wii launches at least at $250.  It's really simple.  Nintendo is in a business.  They want to make money.  They will sell out at $250.  Not only that but the extra $50 will be all profit.  Let's say over the life of the revolution if the made a $25 profit before, they now make a $75 profit per system.

So if they sell 20 million at the old price = $25 x 20M = $500M

And if they sell 8 million at the new price = $75 x 8M = $600M

In business it often times pays to sell less.  And ultimately the wii succeeds if the movement system catches on, not based on price.  So I think $250-300 is what we'll see at launch.  Which pains me because I wanted to go ultra crazy on the virtual console.

And no way the controllers launch less than $40.  It matches the competition which is fine for an accessory.  The people that will buy 4 controllers are the ones that line up at launch.  Not the people waiting for the price to come down.  And the gamecube controller launched at $35.

There's a few reasons for the 360 domination.

A.  360 games cost 20% percent more than PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, and PSP games.  Actually most likely more as these systems have flooded the budget price $20-30 market while a budget game on the xbox cost the same as the other consoles.  And we know NPD ranks on money.

B.  Like it or not, the 360 is selling loads more than the other consoles.  People are holding out buying the current consoles to save money for the next one.  Usually when a new console launches it typically has an attach rate 2.  People on the older consoles are probably saving up to buy a game every couple of months.

C.  Lastly, the games on the chart suck.  Notably an opinion, but New Super Mario is the only thing I'm interested in at full price.  I'll wait for the games to come down or get some of the sweet looking games that will come out during the holiday period.  Which incidently sells multiple times April's numbers.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Best system launch ever?!
« on: March 03, 2006, 06:55:09 AM »
I actually expect Nintendo to drop the ball on the launch.  They did it with the DS by having only 10 games available for release and not delivering a true supply of games until 6 months later.  I expect the same thing with the Revolution.  I wouldn't expect more than 3 first party games and a dozen third party games.  I don't care what has been talked about or confirmed, we are still 8 months from console launch and Nintendo routinely delays games.

I also feel that Nintendo entirely dropped the ball with the new Zelda game.  It would have been a great Revolution title.  2 games I hear most about are Goldeneye and Ocarina of Time.  This game would have brought all of the Zelda fans back.  Now anyone who is still needs a Zelda fix will buy it for the gamecube.  And new fans that it could have brought back will dismiss it as last generation and won't consider it in deciding whether to get a rev, ps2, or 360.  And now if they decide to bring it over they are all liars because they have guaranteed it will be on the gamecube.

Next, I believe the rat is correct.  Alot of developers are sitting on the fence with the revolution.  They say the right things in the public but they are waiting to see how good it does because there is large doubt surrounding it.  So I don't expect the Revolution to get more than 15-20 3rd party games in the first half year of the revolution.  They need to do it themselves if they are they are going to get back to the top of the food pyramid.  Plus there really is no reason not to load up with 6-8 launch titles.  Remember that crappy DS launch?  Spiderman sold over a quarter million copies.  It sold because there was only that game and Mario 64.  And the DS had an amazingly low tie ratio until the games came.  If Nintendo launched with 6-8 launch titles they would have at least a 4-5 tie ratio which is amazing for a launching system and would make Nintendo fans and developers jump onto the system.

Lastly, Nintendo has a huge opportunity in front of them.  If Xbox 360 sells out they will have sold approximately 7-8 million worldwide at the end of year based on their current production.  (Speculatively) if PS3 sells out they will be lucky to have 4 million systems to homes by the end of the year.  The reason for these production problems is that they are using extremely new technology.  The PS3 has the whole blue-ray, cell chip issues.  The xbox 360 has the chip production issues.  The revolution shouldn't have any of this.  They are making a gamecube 2.  They shouldn't have any overheating, chip, or graphics cards problems because the technology they are using is older and more established.  There is really no reason why the Revolution should not be able to ship 10 million units by year end especially if they finalize the unit soon.  And if this happens..... No supply problems, key price point, Nintento Revolution could be in the lead at the end of the year.  All they need is the games to push consumers over the edge and the supply that the xbox 360 and ps3 will lack.

It would still be possible for the revolution.  I'm not a big fan of getting "severly incomplete games"(demos), but the revolution is supposed to allow you to be able to hook up an external harddrive through the usb port on the revolution and that the usb port would accept jump drives.  Ultimately the 500 mb flash drive is for retro games.  Should be able to fit the entire nes and snes collections on the drive, don't know about the N64 collection but it should serve it's purpose.

I don't find that page that offensive.  Clearly, Nintendo has more girl gamers and young kids then the PSP.  Nintendo has gone out of their way to target female gamers and the GBA brand has them well positioned in the younger age group.  I believe the totals through November to be fairly accurate(didn't have the NPD for several months).  So with a 3M to 2.7M lead the PSP has thus far been the choice of older gamers.  What I find laughable is that Sony claims to sell another 2.5M to 3M during December.  They've been outsold by the DS ever since Mario Kart and will be outsold during December.  And they'll be lucky to sell 500k during December.  I predict November type numbers where the DS sells 450k and the PSP 400k.  Those that want an XBox 360 won't buy a PSP because they can't get one.  If they need a gaming fix they'll buy the next lower console(PS2 or Xbox).  If anything I think that the XBox 360 makes the PSP more useless.  PSP is no longer capable of current console games.
