Meet the new rewards system, almost the same as the old reward system. Just now with mobile game hooks!

Pretty much, yeah, though I'm interested in Twilight Princess Picross. I don't doubt that the Golden Children/Master Race in Japan get will still be far superior than whatever NoA's MyNintendo ends up being, though.
There was a Signature here. It's gone now.

I wonder how fast you gain points, I'm guessing you get more platinum than you do gold since all of the platinum rewards are more expensive.

I hope you earn points at a reasonable rate: this sounds like a great opportunity for me to finally get New Super Luigi U.  I'm still not sure why I passed that up in the first place.

I hope we get this selection, I'd want things like the Pikmin 3 DLC.

I wonder how the point gains will work this time around. Is 1,000 a lot? Is 30 a lot?

Did I miss something... What is the difference between Gold points and Platinum points?  At first I assumed your points were "Platinum" once they reached a certain level (kind of like Club Nintendo), but from the list of rewards that were released in Japan I see that's not the case.  For example, you can get DKC Returns for 320 Gold, but 20% Dr. Mario for 230 Platinum.  Is that confusing to anyone else.  What's the deal?

Yeah, it's a little confusing, and I'm not sure if they've revealed all the details yet. The two types of points are earned in different ways; I think the platinum points are earned from things like game purchases, and gold points are gotten from other things like playing games/earning "achievements."

That could be cool.  I'm really interested in how Nintendo will approach Achievements.  If they'll follow what they've currently been doing with stamps on Miiverse, or if they'll have something totally different up their sleeves.  So far their stamps have been earned for making progress in the game (i.e. winning a grand prix in mario), but it would be fun to see what else they can come up with.

I think it's the other way around. Gold points are earned from purchasing content (e.g. hardware, games, DLC etc.); platinum points are earned from non-transaction based interaction with software.

"50% off Metroid: Other M or Super Mario Galaxy"

Okay is this intentional trolling?  Could you pick two Wii games with a more extreme variance in reception?  So you want Ocarina of Time or Superman 64?  Pitfall or E.T.?

It seems very strange to introduce this so close to the rumoured NX release.  Probably part of the plan is to try to get the kinks out before the NX launches but this late in the life cycle of the Wii U and 3DS the most loyal Nintendo customers will already have bought the major titles and there probably won't be enough new games on the existing consoles to get up to the top rewards.  It really doesn't make sense to switch reward systems partway through a generation like this.

Ah, well the point is that those are the two ways of earning points. Though, if that's true then it seems odd to me; I would think that the more valuable points (platinum) would be from actual money...
