Lord of the Rings Getting Lego Video Game Adaptation

Are you even surprised?

Lord of the Rings will be receiving a Lego-branded video game, as reported by MCV.

The website states that packaging materials found with the new Lord of the Rings Lego sets confirms the project. In addition, Shop To briefly posted a listing of the game before taking it down, but has a Google cache version available. The website had a placeholder box art and an October 2012 release date attached.

The game itself is to be developed by Traveller's Tales, but an official statement on the matter has not been made.

I must be the only one kind of excite about this. I'm a pretty big fan of the LEGO games and I adore Lord of the Rings. I'll probably get this for sure.

Not the only one, Danny.
I love the Lego games. I'm already looking forward to the Lego Batman 2 game later this year. This Lord of the Rings game will be sweet, I am sure, but if it released in October of this year, that may be too soon after the Batman one. There are already "too many" Lego games on shelves for some consumers.

Unless you live in a different country then America and its not out for awhile later, it comes out in nearly a month....June 19 last I heard.

Yes. Like I said. Later this year.
Which makes an October release for the next Lego game seem soon to me.
I suppose the good news is that when LOTR comes out, Batman 2 will be discounted to $20!  :)

@Danny

I was wondering if you ever picked this up.  If so, what did you think?

I was just checking the site to see if anyone ever reviewed it, but I guess not.  I picked it up a couple weeks ago and just finished the main story mode.  I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at the open world environment.  You can literally walk from Hobbiton to Mount Doom, and everywhere in between (if you were so inclined).  As other LEGO games are, there is a lot of fan service.

I realize that a lot of people on this site are down on the LEGO games, but I was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on this one.
