Indeed. I'll believe P3 when I see it.

I don't get it. Didn't we get confirmation at last years E3?

Development may be underway, but it doesn't have to finish.

64DD.

The 64DD was finished, and it resulted in a product that was released (in Japan). Anyway, a game is a completely different thing than a piece of hardware. All you have to do with a game is release it and that's it, but a piece of hardware you have to continue to support if you want it to go somewhere. A game requires much less of a commitment.

The 64DD was released.

If you want a better example though, you should point at the SNES CD add-on that never materialized. Unlike the 64DD that was actually never released anywhere, although it did create the framework for what would become the PS1.

So I guess the fear here is that Pikmin 3 is in development the same way that Mario 128 was in development.

Yes. Because Miyamoto never stated if the 'We're making Pikmin!' from E3 '08 comment was really referring to a new Pikmin or the NPC editions as far as I know.

This reminds me, my copy of Pikmin is still sealed. I should probably play it sometime and see what all of the buzz is about.

If you don't want to keep it and it's the Wii version I'd be willing to buy it off of you.

Actually, I think someone did follow up on that and it was confirmed to be not the NPC Pikmins that he was referring to. I distinctly remember having the exact same worry, and then it being assuaged at some point.

Well, either way I'm assuming that a new Pikmin will be on the way at some point. It's not like the series was a flop. It was quite successful. I half wonder if they are beginning to think about holding back projects for the new Wii 2 or whatever. The 3DS will be out next year so I would expect 2012 to be when we start seeing the next console being revealed. If Pikmin 3 is actually on the back burner being worked on during Miyamoto's spare time or something with two other guys then it might become a launch title for that next system.

Is it too early to start looking for the generation jumping development like we saw with Eternal Darkness, Star Fox Adventures and Resident Evil 0 going from N64 to Gamecube?

Miyamoto did say it was underway. I don't think he's said what system it was underway for.

I don't want Pikmin on a tiny screen. :(  The whole point is having all these little guys running around.  It would be harder to follow on a portable screen.

It probably won't because of the 3D thing.  Unless the 3D stuff is entirely visual and they aren't going to make games that aren't playable if run in 2D mode (which might be the case since some people can't see in 3D).  Plus the DS didn't have a TV-out.  It doesn't seem like Nintendo's style.

Damn it!  Don't get my hope up about it having that! ;)

Nintendo won't even support HD in the here and now.  Why would they make their portable output to cutting edge 3D TVs?

And I don't own a 3D TV so this would do me no good anyway.

I actually think it would be easier to follow, especially if you combine both screens. With the depth that 3D gives you (not the pop out of the screen kind of the 3D, but true perspective), it'll be much easier to judge distance and thus keep your pikmin out of harms way.

Nintendo has already said that there next console will support HD.

It'd be easier to follow in overhead 2D.
