General Gaming / UK and US Accessories
« on: August 09, 2003, 01:37:41 AM »
Hi, I'm going to import a GBA SP in the next few days from the US to the UK (as its cheaper) and I was wondering if there was any differences in the Link Cable needed to link a Gamecube to a GBA (would I need a US link cable, a UK link cable or would either work?). Also is there any difference between the wavebirds/joypads in the US compared to the UK (ie. will a US wavebird work on my UK gamecube?)

Thanks!  (if this isn't in the right forum sorry)

Edit: Also will using the recharger supplied with a US GBA-SP damage my GBA-SP if I use a UK->US Plug converter (not sure what they're called) or will it be okay?

ooh I like the idea of that more actually, I've played most good SNES games but to be honest I've only played a couple of 8-bit console games, and not even all the way through (I was too busy playing on my ZX Spectrum at the time) so I'd love to be able to play the classics on those systems.

I say we make an online petition for Nintendo/Sega to do one of these!

Ah thanks for the info eggytoast, I didn't see anything about that but I'll take your word for it

by the way I've just read on Nintendo News that the Gameboy Player will be available from the VIP Stars Catalogue, does anyone know how many stars it will probably cost?

no I haven't played Skies of Arcadia, Radex, I haven't played any new RPGs since FFIX on PS1 (or maybe Vagrant Story depending on which came out first) Thanks for the list of RPGs Grey Ninja I'll watch out for them (I downloaded a video for Giftpia off the nintendo e3 site, its very... strange. I love the cel-shading though reminds me of Zelda but with black edges)

Nintendo Gaming / RE: OK, OK - I got love for Wind Waker
« on: May 25, 2003, 01:33:39 PM »
I live in the UK and I only completed it about a week and a half ago, unfortunately I'll probably fail most of my exams now... ah well.
Wind Waker only came out on 2nd or 3rd May over here by the way (even though I got it early for some reason, I ordered it with my GC over the internet). How long has it been out in America?

instead of doing one huge disk with every single one of those games on they should just do individual genres/styles per disk for a cheaper price (same as a 1/3->1/2 price game maybe), plus nintendo would probably rather do it this way to make more money
Like a Mario Game Pack (Marios either to Mario64 or SMW2:YI, or maybe up to SMW2:YI with a bonus disk with Mario64 on if you preorder), a DK Pack (Donkey Kong Countries 1-3), a RPG Game Pack (Earthbound, Final Fantasies, Chrono Trigger), a Adventure Pack (Super Metroid, Zelda:LTTP), a fighting pack, etc etc

ah well, we can dream they'd probably never do this and if they did it would be for GBA or the next GBA

Edit: Just added that they could sell it at a lowish price

hmm, sorry for going slightly offtopic (still about mario kart but about something other than special controllers) but I've just had a thought (a very rare occurance ).
If Gamespy bring out a tunnelling system for Mario Kart to play online, would you only be able to play against one other Gamecube owner at a time or would you be able to connect to more than one? because otherwise that'd mean that unless you had 4 people at each Gamecube it would mainly be 1v1 matches (plus CPU players). Can you only play 1v1 when you tunnel on the Xbox?
Hope that made sense.

Anyway back on topic:
I have a feeling that the new controller will either a) just be a normal Gamecube controller with Mario Kart printed on it (maybe a diff colour too) or b) be something with different functions to other controllers (which might make it an exclusive to Mario Kart controller) or c) a standard steering wheel

I'm kind of hoping it'll be b) even though I probably wouldn't get it. Maybe it'll have a little screen on it where it tells you what items you've got and a display of the map (so nobody else can see your items) but then again they could just use the GBA for that and give people another excuse to buy one and it'd probably be too expensive to make

huh? they're making special Mario Kart Controllers? I haven't heard about that, got any links? I've only got two controllers so far and one is a rubbish third party one which rumbles too loud (have to turn off rumble in the game or it gets too annoying) and I only got because it was £20 for that and a 8MB memory card bundle. If they're any good I might get one but if its only practical for that one game then I probably won't bother

I'm guessing it'll have a (mini?) steering wheel on it, depends on how big the controller is though.

Does anyone know if there are any RPGs that have come out/coming out soon/planned for GC that are worth buying except for Phantasy Star Online 1/2 or FF:CC? (I'm an RPG addict but I haven't seen many for GC, I just started playing FF7 again for PS1 and realised I want a new one to play but I have a feeling I might be restricted to my PS1 RPGs for a while)

yeah I was thinking that it was unlikely that Link would be in it, he doesn't quite fit in that world but would you say that the DKs were part of the Mushroom Kingdom, because the only games I can think of that have both Mario characters and DK in is the one where DK is the 'bad guy' throwing barrels at Mario, the other Mario Karts, and the Mario Partys (theres probably a couple more but I can't think of any games that aren't multiplayer games)  I haven't played the N64 Donkey Kong if theres any link between them in there, DK characters do seem to fit quite well in Mario Kart games though (better than LOZ characters would)
Edit: Oh and smash brothers is another game

hmm, does anyone know if Link and the other LOZ characters could be unlockable?
