I just want it for the portable co-op multiplayer. I just hope that the co-op in NSMBU and NSMB2 are online as well.

As a lesson from the launch of the Wii and the 3DS, Nintendo will surely choose to package Nintendo Land in as a disk rather than digitally, directly on the hardware. That is, if they do not sell it separately all together. If it's sold separately, then consumers will get to decide wheather they want it physically or digitally. If it's included in the system, they will not have that choice.

Excellent Mario gameplay. Could you ask them to rethink the "Mario Time" speech? I thought that was WaLuigi's line, and it just makes me uncomfortable to hear Mario say it. Thanks.

Congrats on getting your question shown on Nintendo's All-Access@E3 Wii U Developer Discussion Video.

Wii U Controller Details
Does the Wii U Pro Controller have rumble? Are the ZL & ZR triggers analog/pressure sensitive, and do they click when they are pressed all the way down like on the GCN controllers? Are these features on both the Wii U Pro Controller and the Wii U GamePad?

More 3DS games need Communities.

Perhaps this can be patched in? Actually, Communities should be brought in as a system update to the 3DS firmware. That way all of the online 3DS games can have Communities. Then Community Game Nights will be more convenient for all!

What's the Deal?

Ok, this game has been out for the 360, PS3, Wii, and the Vita for quite a while. If all of the different versions require you to use the shoulder buttons to run, then why is it only now when we are dealing with the 3DS version that this is brought up as an issue with the game? It makes it seem as though being on the 3DS is causing the game to have bad controls when it's really the same control scheme all around. If this game had bad controls, then surely we would have heard about it by now from the reviews of it on all of the other systems. If you look at some  of the reviews for the Vita version you’ll see things like, “Control-wise it’s very basic but it works perfectly on the Vita as you can sprint with the shoulder buttons…,” “the controls are simple and concise,” and simply that it has “Excellent controls.” They pretty much say that it’s simple and easy to control and play. What's up with that?

TalkBack / Re: Hard Questions for Nintendo
« on: May 08, 2012, 11:14:48 AM »
There is a difference between being tied to your system and being tied to your account.

With the Wii U, we will have user accounts on the Nintendo Network. Will we then be able to play a game like Super Mario Bros., which is available on both the Wii and the 3DS Virtual Consoles, on both the Wii U and the 3DS after making only a single purchase? Currently, we must use a system transfer in order to play digital games on a different system. Will the system transfer process be changed so that it can be handled by the accounts system instead solely through SD cards?

Digital Distribution of Retail 3DS & Wii U Games: Need Ideas

“…we already have the necessary infrastructure to digitally distribute the software on a scale as large as the packaged software. We can start it as soon as we decide to do so.”

“As for the actual digital distribution method, we need to consider what kind of cooperation we can make with wholesalers and retailers, but we think that there must be various solutions other than just positioning digital distribution as an enemy to them. Upon close consultation with them, we would like to determine the details of our digital distribution.”

"…there must be a solution other than positioning digital distribution as an enemy to wholesalers and retailers."  - Satoru Iwata

This is of key importance. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem? Are there any other companies out there that are already implementing a solution to this? This problem is all that's standing in our way of getting to download retail games right now. The sooner this gets solved, the sooner we get to stop lugging our physical carts around with us everywhere.

Here’s an idea just to get the ball rolling:

Allow the retailers to sell download codes or items, such as figures or cards, which use NFC to act as download codes. This way, retailers can also sell the digital versions of the retail games. I do not think it would be fair to Nintendo if the retailers were the only ones allowed to sell the digital content, though. Nintendo should still be able to sell the digital versions of the retail games directly from the eShop on the 3DS and Wii U. The price of the digital versions should be lower than the physical versions, but that is ok because the retailers can still sell the cheaper digital versions anyway. Just make sure that the prices of the digital versions are still the same from the retailer and from Nintendo’s eShop. Are you listening Nintendo? I want digital retail games ASAP! Please & Thank you.

P.S. I like NTN or NiNet for the abbreviation of The Nintendo Network Service.

Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.

Use Time Wisely

As long as they're taking their time, I hope that they are incorporating feedback from the ones who have gotten to play it. I'm curious to hear about the hands-on impressions because issues are often brought up that may or may not be addressed before its final release.

Is the Aria di Mezzo Carattere from Maria and Draco that was sung at the opera house in Final Fantasy VI included in the Theatrhythm Final Fantasy 3DS game? Does the opera play out while you play the stage? Thank you.

HD Consoles Price Comparison

PS3 160GB w/Controller, Game, Blu-ray Movie = $250
PS3 320GB w/Controller, Game = $300
PS3 320GB w/Controller, Game, PSMove = $350

Xbox360 4GB w/Controller = $200
Xbox360 4GB w/Controller, Game, Kinect = $300
Xbox360 250GB w/Controller, 2 Games = $300
Xbox360 250GB w/Controller, 2 Games, Kinect = $400
Xbox360 320GB w/2 Controllers, Game = $400

Wii U 8GB (Flash) w/Controller = $300
Wii U 8GB (Flash) w/Controller, Game = $350

It looks like Nintendo will be bypassing much of the cost by not including a hard drive. If they build games into the console like they did with the 3DS, then they might not even have to include a separate pack-in game.

Quote from: Bonampak
They will probably include Wii Sports U with the console.

Wii Sports was basically the game that made a ton of people buy a Wii in the first place. It would be foolish not to include a sequel for the Wii U.

You have a really good point. The NES had Super Mario Bros. packed in and it did very well. The SNES has Super Mario World packed in and it did well. The N64 did not have Super Mario 64 packed in and it did not do as well. The GCN did not have a pack in game and it did even worse. The Wii has Wii Sports packed in and it did extremely well. Even the portable systems don’t do very well until they start to get games packed in with them. It seems that it would be worth upping the price of the Wii U from $300 to $350 to have a game packed in. 11/18/2012 seems to be the most likely release date as well.

I remember playing Karate Champ in the arcades and on the NES. It was fun, but it was too inconsistent. Too often, I would punch or kick my opponent only to be surprised that the hit was not registered by the game. Without reliably being able to convey my commands, there was no satisfaction for playing successfully. It seemed to be all up to chance whether or not my attacks would connect as opposed to relying on my actual skill at the game.

I'm kicking your FACE!

Moving forward to when I played Street Fighter II in the arcades and on the SNES, I finally felt the satisfaction of my input accurately being represented on the screen. In the beginning, I did not even know what a Dragon Punch was; instead I learned to rely on crouching fierce punches and sweeps. I remember hearing cheers from behind me as I won a match by accidentally performing a Dragon Punch when I intended to do a simple uppercut. From that point on, I transitioned from accepting simple, reliable moves to committing to learn the complexities of the game.

I went from casually playing fighting games, through being engaged in the combat, to obsessing over being able to pull of any move whenever I needed to perform it. I was young, and I had the time to train. Looking back, however, I wonder if my time Dragon Punching from one side of the screen to the other, over and over again, could have been better spent just playing through the game. When I played Street Fighter with my friends, we were always very competitive. It got to a point where it wasn’t really as fun as it was exhausting. I was happy when we started playing AKI’s wrestling games as they were just as competitive, but allowed me to have more fun. How; by not forcing me to train my muscle memory in order to pull of the moves.

The control scheme for No Mercy allows you to use one universal list of inputs for all of the characters in the game. The moves are simple to perform, and they are accurately executed. At the same time, the same input will perform different moves for different characters. This allows for a wide variety of characters with a wide variety of moves without the need for complicated controls. Because of the implementation of timing for counters and the rock-paper-scissors depth to the striking-grappling-defending mechanics, the fighting can be very strategic. The result is a varied and complex, strategic fighter that can be played with a focus on what to do instead of how to do it.

The same concepts of controls, variety, and even the strategic elements can be found in Super Smash Bros. This allows for competitive play that is still very fun and intuitive without having to be stressful or tedious. If you think back to how you felt when you used to play No Mercy, or any of AKI’s wrestling games, and then think of how you feel when you play Smash Bros, perhaps you might notice some similarities. When comparing the two fighters, you may also notice a glaring disparity that has yet to be included in previous Smash Bros releases. That missing feature is character creation and customization.

There are likely other features that Smash Bros can and should look to No Mercy for such as combination moves for characters that have teamed up or having different “win” goals besides just using the number of ko’s or coins via the use of specialized match types. Also, both lack a co-op story mode. All of these pale in comparison to Smash Bros lack of character and move customization. Based on what was done in AKI’s games, it seems like a good practice to lock the move sets of the official roster. The magic is in having all of the different moves of all of the different characters at your disposal when creating your own characters. As we have seen with the weapon collection, combination, and items system in Kid Icarus, there is hope for a robust customization system in Smash Bros as well.

The move sets must be robust, but I’m not sure as to what kind of options we can expect in terms of character creation. Mii’s would be my first guess as to the type of characters that we may create in Smash Bros, but it might be a good idea to, say, copy over the Donkey Kong official character from his slot on the roster and paste him into a customizable slot, just like in AKI’s games. Then we could modify the move set using ones from other characters. This would allow us to not only make Mii’s with customized moves but also have personalized versions of each of the main characters too.

The addition of customization features in Smash Bros seems to be very likely thanks to Kid Icarus: Uprising. I would also like to see how Smash Bros can handle 3D depth of movement in the environments instead of always being 2D gameplay. No Mercy was not tethered to a 2D plane, so this might work. Again, Kid Icarus shows us that 3rd person gameplay through 3D environments is feasible. We’ll see just how far and how wide Sakurai wants to change the series. I’m confident that steps will be made in the right directions. It’s the giant leaps that I’m concerned about.

Also, the announcement for The Last Story is good timing on Nintendo's part, because now some people may opt to wait instead of import. If Nintendo had waited any longer to announce the game, too many people would have imported it already.

I would like to be able to play Animal Crossing on both the 3DS and the Wii U together al la Crystal Chronicles Echos of Time. I like being able to play portably as I don't have much time to play, but my wife only wants to play on the big TV screen. I want us to be able to play the same game together from both systems.

Isn't there an option to toggle the use of IR for automatically recalibrating the Wiimote? I'm sure I have see that option before in another game.

Chip design is a significant, significant effort. It would be easier (cheaper) to just strip out the unwanted items rather than redo them from the ground up. I don't think AMD has found big ways to make your specific desired modern features more efficient, or they'd already be using them in their regular chips. When I hear that the dev kits have gotten more powerful, all that tells me is that they went from a 4770 to a 48x0 -- they just added more stream units.

Even though it seems more likely that the newer dev kits went from 4770 to 48x0, do you think that there is any decent chance that Nintendo has opted to move to an HD5000 or HD6000 base instead of just adding more stream units?

49
also is there a reason why this was posted on every nintendo forum?

I hope that Nintendo employees read through these forums to help get an idea of what the consumers want from the Wii U. There are some critical issues that, if we can address them now, may save Nintendo some trouble down the line. Imagine if the 3DS forums made a big deal about adding a second circle pad, and then the system actually released with them at launch because of the points made on the forums. Let's do this for Direct X 11/Open GL 4.2 support for the Wii U. A man can dream can't he?
