Please explain this statement. It can't mean what I think its means so it means something else.

But Splatoon is Super Mario Sunshine 2 in the "Failed Mario" timeline.
Am I the only one who thought this was funny?

It's not legit until it is published in Mushroom Historia where it will be rewritten to force all of the games onto a single timeline for the promotion of Super Mario 3D Galaxy World of Sunshine Brothers, which will release this Fall.

Puzzle and Dragon: Super Mario Bros. Edition keeps the top spot as a sleepy Golden Week passes. For those despairing over the the Xenoblade X numbers, a forum user in the NeoGaf thread notes that Xenoblade X sold through ~70% of its shipment the previous week (i.e. launch week). That's a bit of silver lining.

Yeah but I liked 3D World which is more like 3D Land than Galaxy is, which, as has been stated in the past, feels like the awkward love child of the collect-a-thon and 3D Land mindsets.

Jeez, you bring up one unpopular opinion and people get so sensitive. Their favorite game is so sacred.

Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of the Galaxy games, either, especially the first one. They went away from the more open-ended exploration-focused design of Mario 64 to embrace a tedious linear-style design, where you could pursue only 1 star at a time & you'd have to exit out & restart if anything else in the level interested you. The idea was to make the lazy casuals that only like the linear 2D Marios love 3D Mario instead, and I can see the appeal but it just wasn't for me. The unresponsive waggle controls didn't help matters, either. At least Galaxy 2 had Yoshi, and he worked out alright.

I didn't know there were other opinions about the Galaxy games, honestly. I thought it was universally praised as one of, if not the greatest game of all time. Not saying its everyones GOAT but at least top 10. Learn something new every day.

And I would buy thee heck outta a "Mushroom Kingdom Continuum". Make all the games into one long ass manga series.

Super Mario Galaxy is a well-made game. It is inventive in art style and scope. But it's hub world is terrible, lots of level design is hit-and-miss, and it limits what was arguably the best 3D platformer moveset of all time (I'm talking about Sunshine, and this point is opinion but the fact that  the moveset was deepest and most varied in this game is irrefutable).

Also, the Luigi stars are bullshit.

Oddly enough the first Galaxy didn't do it for me that much but the second one really clicked.  Then I went back to the first and had a blast with it.  I guess when the first came out I wasn't in the right mood for it or something.  Part of why I liked it was that I didn't like Sunshine all that much and the N64-era style of platforming was pretty played out.  Now Nintendo has never gone back to it so I miss it but at the time it felt like the genre had gotten stale and needed a new take which Galaxy provided.

But the game is flawed.  The motion control is a joke and a re-release with that stupid shake mapped to a button would be great.  Each game has some weird motion controlled level (bird in one, some marine creature in the other) that is unplayable garbage.  And the star bits felt very weird and forced, like Nintendo really needed to "prove" the value of the controller so they came up with this rather unnecessary idea.  It's an amazing game but also demonstrated to me how limited the Wii controller really was.  The game could easily have been done on the Gamecube... so why did I have to buy this new console for star bits and a button press mapped to an inaccurate shake that goes off at the worst time?

No game is universally loved.  Some are just so generally well liked that it's rare to come across someone that doesn't like them.  And while I feel Galaxy isn't perfect it is still easily in my top five Wii games.

Also, some people will hype up the "hate" of a beloved game if they feel a different title was superior like Mario World vs Mario 3, Link to the Past vs Ocarina of time.

Guess Intelligent Systems will never get to independently make new IPs anymore (maybe Code Name Steam was a reward to them for the success of FE: Awakening in the first place); they will make FE games till the end of time…

This seems like a dull time of year for Japan sales.  Everything is blah outside of Witcher 3.

Japan is a squid kid now as Splatoon takes the top spot amid reports of the games stores selling out of the game. Not bad for an unfinished game! The latest Hatsune Miku game for 3DS sells softly as it is merely a compilation of the two 3DS games that came before it. The Witcher 3 sticks around at 3rd, selling well in its second week. Mario Kart 8 crosses the million mark.

Alright, now that we finally have concrete sales numbers for Splatoon rather than hearsay, now everyone can cheer Splatoon's success.

Not just a new IP, but one in a genre that historically hasn't been that popular there.
