Curve Digital sale on the eShop right now.  Lone Survivor, Nova-111, OlliOlli, Pumped BMX+, The Swapper, and Thomas Was Alone for WiiU and OlliOlli and Titan Attacks! for 3DS are all on sale for $1 until 7/22.  Not only that but you get gold My Nintendo coins based on the regular price, so if there's anything available on My Nintendo that you want, this sale is a steal.

What do the third parties want?  If they feel this 4K stuff is important than the NX needs it.  If they don't then it probably will be fine without it.  Do what it is needed to stop the trend of games showing up on every platform but Nintendo's and the sales will improve.  Continue to almost intentionally maintain that status quo and the sales will just get worse with each gen.

Though I'm not particularly confident in Nintendo making the right call in what tech they don't need to support.  Just matching the competition on this stuff is probably the safest move.  My assumption is that they WON'T match it and that gives me another reason to hope and pray this iterative console stuff flops.
Everything I've heard/read is that there's no way the updated PS4/Xbone would be capable of running games, outside of very basic 2D games, in 4k.  It takes way too much processing power to do 4k.  So, I doubt third parties really care, none of the AAA third party games are going to be coming out in 4k anytime soon.

Definitely excited about this.  Looks interesting, I considered buying the PC version but I just don't play games on the computer.  Loved the old Harvest Moon games back in the day so I'm hoping I'll enjoy this.

Pathetic. If you survived the N64, you can survive anything.
Shouldn't a hobby be something you can just enjoy, not something that you have to survive?

Looks like a good deal.  I'm debating between the $1+ and $13+ options.  The prices stay the same other than the pay more than average one, right?  I'm thinking I'm going to wait and see what the more games are before deciding which one to go with.  I'm sure I'm going to end up going with the $13 option since I own none of the games but I still want to see what gets added first.

I haven't played the Wii version of Twilight Princess but my guess would be that a lot of it is that motion controls have come a long ways since the Wii launched and using the motion controls the game had would have made it feel dated (like going back and playing Wii Sports, which was a blast back in the day but now broken as much as anything in my opinion) and making the motion controls good would have been too much work.  Also, the audience they're targeting at this stage of the Wii U probably wants motion controls far less than the audience they were targeting early in the Wii era.

33
Disappointing.  Twilight Princess is the one console Zelda game released in the past 20 years that I haven't played so I was excited when this was announced.  Might still pick it up at some point, but not for full price if it hasn't gotten the same treatment as the other re-releases.

TalkBack / Re: Our 2016 Nintendo Predictions

Whatever they do, they had better make the NX have comparable power to whatever probable specs a hypothetical PS5/XboxTwo may have. Otherwise it's yet another decade of pitiful third party support and shovelware to look forward to
There's about a 0% chance of that happening.  Since the next generation of systems are likely at least 3 years behind the NX, to release comparable hardware to what's coming years later would be prohibitively expensive.  Nintendo has put themselves in an awkward situation between the ill timed release of the Wii U and then following it up with a system that's stuck releasing mid-cycle again.  I think that the architecture of the hardware is probably more important, they need to make it easy for developers to port PS4/XboxOne games to the system.  The fact that the Wii U hasn't gotten PS4/XboxOne games isn't that surprising but the fact that it didn't even get games released for PS3/Xbox360 outside of the release window is just sad.

Theres talk of a 900p support for the next console, that could be the screen on the controller.  the current one is 854x480

1080p is 1920x1080

Ipads are like 1024x768

900p is probably 1600x900 (based on photoshop's constrain proportion algorithm)

That's accurate for the older generation of iPads but all of the newer models are 2048x1536.

The gamepad could have been good.  Every time I use it I can't help but notice how incredibly low resolution it is and using for off-TV play on anything other than virtual console games feels like a waste because Wii U games look so much better on the TV than on the Gamepad.  And even in a small apartment with the Wii U centrally located, I couldn't use the Gamepad in my bedroom to play games or watch Netflix in the kitchen while making dinner.  If it had decent resolution and range, I would have been much happier with it.  There have definitely been some good uses for the Gamepad but it has never felt revolutionary or game changing.

I've been reading this thread throughout but haven't posted much because I don't have any idea what Nintendo is going to do with the NX and don't have an idea of what they should do but it's been interesting reading everyone's ideas.

I saw how cheap the Tom Nook amiibo has gotten and considered picking one up.  Not surprising that they're not selling well given how poorly Amiibo Festival has performed.  I wonder what the sales for the amiibo would be if they had released a proper Animal Crossing game instead.

Wow, that's just ridiculous, does Apple's stock take a hit when rumors of the iPhone 7 mean that the iPhone 6 is going to take a hit in sales?  I wonder what the stock price would have done if they had announced that the NX wouldn't impact 3DS/Wii U sales.  "It's not really of interest to anyone buying the products we currently make, but it's ok because it won't impact their sales at all..."

Well, they released a poorly reviewed spin-off game of a series they didn't bother to release a mainline game for on Wii U and stripped down tennis game that reviewed very poorly.  They probably feel pretty good about the fact that they managed to sell the same number of consoles as last year given how weak their holiday lineup has been (especially if you consider early September as not a holiday season game) and how stubborn they've been about having any permanent price drops.

Awesome that Nintendo is matching donations this hour.  Can't listen live but looking forward to listening to the podcast over the next couple weeks.  Hope the telethon goes well.

Where's the stretch goal that involves James Jones playing Sonic: Rise of Lyric from beginning to end?  That would bring in the big money.

Add 15% off eShop cards and Smash Bros Wii U for $35 at Best Buy to their Black Friday sale.

Best Buy has eShop cards for 10% off right now.

Target has a buy 2 get 1 free sale going on through Saturday.  You can also get a 10% off coupon if you download their wishlist app and there's a 5 off 50 coupon that can be applied as well (TGTE2RSY).  There's also a 15% off coupon from their registry app that some people managed to use but it seems like a lot of people were having issues so I was happy with the 10% and $5 off, plus another $5 or so from the red card.  Can get 3 $60 games for just over $100 after tax, not bad, especially since so many Nintendo games never drop in price.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Mario Party 10, and Snoopy's Grand Adventure are all $20 off on Black Friday at Toys R Us.

Had they released a real Animal Crossing game for Wii U instead of a spinoff title, I think it would have been a solid holiday lineup.

« on: September 08, 2015, 10:22:53 PM »
It bears saying that two of the times Nintendo's made a quick sequel re-using the previous entry's assets we got two of the greatest games they've ever released (Majora's Mask and SMG2 of course)
If Pikmin 4 is to Pikmin 3 as SMG2 was to SMG, this better be a Wii U game and I can't wait to play it.

Or it's one of the last big games for Wii U.  It doesn't make any sense to me that they'd announce that it's almost finished already, then sit on it for a year (or more) until NX comes out.  Or they could finally be releasing a handheld version of the game.  My guess is that it's one of the few earlier 2016 Wii U releases.

Awesome news.  I have thoroughly enjoyed Pikmin 3, and really liked both of the first two games as well.  I'm a little surprised to hear that a new one is coming so soon after how long it took to release 3.  It's obviously not for NX if it's coming as soon as it sounds, so I wonder if this is to help fill out the early 2016 release schedule on Wii U or if they're finally going to make a handheld version.  I'd guess Wii U since it'd be easy enough to make a new game using the Pikmin 3 assets but DS/3DS always seemed like it would work well for the series.

Nintendo should have continued the trend of Wii games being $10 the week of release.  They would have my money for both Kirby and Pandora's Tower already but since they're both regular price and I have a solid backlog of games to play, I'll wait and very likely end up not buying either.

The app was an interesting idea but not executed well, it was way to slow to bother with using the few times I tried it.

Having the TV remote function built into the Gamepad, on the other hand, was a great idea that I use regularly and I see no reason why they would change anything with it.

The game looks pretty cool.  But I wish there was a bit more of a market for new ideas of the eShop, it seems like so many of the games rely on nostaglia, but I'm guessing it's because that's what sells.

That reminds me, I still need to buy Runner 2 one of these days.
