Well a couple of updates that may or may not have anything to do with this Saturday.  Reggie has been at the helm of Nintendo's twitter account and Instagram it seems today.  A lot of the things he has posted has caught my attention.  Here is a roundup of what I've seen.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.  http://instagram.com/nintendo#

Nintendo's instagram page.  If you take a look at the pics posted from today, there seem to be a lot of Zelda references.  There are 2 pictures of Ganon and one a video of Reggie's master sword replica.  There is also a picture of a folder with a 3ds on top of it which Reggie says
Quote
We have big plans in store for 2014, and I can’t wait to share with you what’s in this folder! #Regginator

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.  These pictures from today's "TweetUp" have been posted.  I found them at Neogaf so I thought I'd share.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.  Here is a tweet sent out by a Holly Bowen who was attending this event.  I'm not familiar with her but since she's there, I figured its relevant.
Quote
Reggie said his VGX appearance will not be prerecorded. Not giving up any hints, though. #ImWithReggie

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, looking at all this, one can reach many conclusions which again, may or may not mean anything.  There is a lot of Zelda fanfare here but is it because Zelda just released on the 3ds? Is it because he is hinting at revealing something Zelda related on Saturday? or Is it that Reggie wants to troll us extra hard?  Its anyone's guess.

At the instragram, you can see pictures of them playing the new DKC and a video of someone playing WiiSports Golf.  Hopefully neither of these are an indication of what we'll be seeing come Saturday but who knows.  Hopefully that is saved for a NintendoDirect.

Finally, the tweet regarding Reggie's appearance not being prerecorded is strange.  The whole show is prerecorded so why would Reggie choose to do something live?  Does he not want to risk whatever he is planning to announce or show getting leaked early by word of mouth?  Again, who knows.

And finally, its only fitting that I throw a wrench into the whole discussion as if it wasn't already a mystery bag of assumptions.

http://www.examiner.com/article/titanfall-quantum-break-witcher-3-new-wii-u-title-to-be-revealed-at-vgx

This site says "new WiiU title to be revealed at VGX" and then quotes an official press release by Nintendo as stating "a new look at an upcoming Wii U game".

So there you have it, it seems like it'll be another look at an already revealed game (hopefully X :) lol)  This seems like the best bet but then again, there seems to be so much other things that could leave you to believe it could be something more.  All in all, this Saturday will be interesting one way or another.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Official Sales Thread
« on: December 02, 2013, 09:56:41 PM »
I think I'm the only one that thinks this WiiU situation was unavoidable for Nintendo regardless of what they did.  All Nintendo could've done better was release their games and more of them on time to fill in the gaps and have system selling software earlier.  3rd parties, IMO, are dead on arrival for the WiiU and Nintendo home hardware in general (from the start).  Even if the WiiU was spec to spec with the PS4, it wouldn't have made a difference.  Sure, 3rd parties would've probably put in some more support at launch, but I highly doubt many people would have bought into them anyway.  Thus we would be where we are now again, with 3rd parties nearly abandoning Nintendo.  Most "hardcore" gamers made up their mind a long time ago on what systems they were buying, and that was either the PS4 or XboxOne.  I think Nintendo's biggest problem is not so much the hardware but their image.  Nintendo has not been looked at fondly by the general gaming crowd for years.  It might even stem back all the way to the Nintendo 64.  The gamers that flock to Madden and CoD never give Nintendo a second look regardless of what they are doing.  They are the "casual hardcore" which image matters very much.  They are the ones you hear talking nonsense at Gamestop proving their blind loyalty to Sony/MS.  Or they are the ones oblivious to anything else outside of their PS/Xbox world as their systems satisfy their needs so hey have not needed to look elsewhere.

Nintendo matching the PS4/Xbone would have left them worse off IMO as that would've resulted in a slightly more expensive system.  Nintendo did what they had to do, which I believe was the only logical choice.  Release a system just capable enough to put out nice looking games within their budget.  Whats the point of having PS4 specs if Nintendo themselves will more than likely never tap into all of it due to their own design methods and because they'll never fund the millions it takes for AAA titles like The Last of US to really show off those specs?

Nintendo was banking on the Wii crowd carrying over to the WiiU thus their decision to keep a similar name and design.  It burned them bad.  At this point, all they can do is put out there software and try and retain as much of the Nintendo faithful as possible while hoping to pull in a few new customers in the process.  I think if they break even or pull slim profits, that could be considered a win given the situation they are in.

Nintendo should just buy Squareenix and Capcom so they can lock up Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Monster Hunter.  With that trinity they'll secure the motherland with an iron grip lol.

Now that I've contributed to the side convo lol, is there anyway to add a poll to this thread with options like...Reggie will reveal....

1.  that Mario 3d World is out and we should buy it
2.  some throw away ridiculous reveal that's so funny that it hurts and scares yet might even be true lol
3.  an official X trailer
4.  a Zelda tease
5.  a Metroid tease
6.  something else.

Or something to that affect lol.  you get my drift lol.

54
I'm not really sure X would be the best choice. It doesn't really fit the Spike TV, Doritos and Mountain Dew demographic the awards are aimed at.

Well role playing games have typically been announced at this show such as Skyrim I believe and now I'm hearing rumors of Fallout 4 making an appearance this year.  These are huge franchises but I wouldn't say they fit the Spike TV audience.  Besides, I think the audience for these events just want to be wowed, regardless what type of game it is.  I think Zelda, X, and Metroid are the only franchises Nintendo has that can possibly wow the audience for this type of event.  Mario already wows in its own right but that's a different kind of graphics that the Spike audience will not appreciate for the most part.

55
In an attempt to redirect this thread back on topic lol, I'll say that Nintendo has 3 games it can showcase that'll send the internet ablaze and maybe turn some heads at this VGX.

1.  A trailer for the next Legend of Zelda.  It has been stated before (too lazy to look up sources lol) that Nintendo were at one point going to show off a trailer for Zelda back at E3 but decided against it at the last minute.  Then supposedly, a trailer for Zelda was in discussion to be shown off at Comic Con but again wasn't shown.  This leads me to believe that they've been itching to show it off and should have something on file ready to be shown off.  My only problem with this is that I'm not sure NCL will let that fly.  Zelda has been more popular in the US as compared to Japan so you never know.

2.  A actual story based trailer of X revealing its official title, the main character, and what the story is roughly about.  We have seen 2 trailers for X now yet still know very little it.  They basically have been graphical showpieces for Nintendo and the WiiU.  I think its about time we got something more official.

3.  A new Metriod fpa game being made by Retro.  The previous Prime games were amazing graphically given the hardware they were on which is a credit to Retro's masterful artistry.  A Metroid Prime styled game on the WiiU with Retro's artistry will go a long way in presenting a game that'll, IMO, mask the WiiU's graphical deficiencies when compared to the other 2 kids on the block.  An atmospheric trailer seen through the visor of Samus in HD with some amazing lighting and I think they'll really get people talking.  I think this could be done as Retro is their American studio and Metroid along with first person adventures/shooter genres are more popular here in America then in Japan.

These are my opinion on what 3 games I would like to see Nintendo announce at the VGX in order to really create a buzz.  I really hope Nintendo knows what kind of show this is and what is typically revealed there.  Epic trailers of massive franchises are usually revealed at this show so Nintendo can't make their first appearance there be to show off a Wii fit U trailer or a montage of what's currently out on the WiiU and rehashed videos of X/B2/and Smash Bros.

But this is Nintendo though, so all bets are off.  There is an equal chance we'll get an amazing reveal to us getting squat and being left with pent up rage ready to flame Nintendo all over these boards.

56
Well the little feedback I've seen at Neogaf is that the WiiU version is running smooth, looks good, and is not having as many of the bugs that are plaguing the other 2 versions.  I've read some issues already with the released patch for PS3 where people are having to delete in patch to get it run smoothly again.

As for Ass Creed 4, the developers have stated that the WiiU release will fall between the current gen and next gen versions.  Now, what that means is anyone's guess.  I'm hoping for at least some of the features from the next gen version being implemented to a lesser degree on WiiU but I have a feeling all we are going to get is the Need for Speed treatment of higher res and steady framerate.  That's all good but I think the WiiU can do better than that IMO.

57
Damn, I want this game so bad but I'm also dieing to get Ass Creed next week.  Being broke isn't helping the issue either.  I'm thinking of trading in my copy of GTA V next week for one of these 2 games.  I'm currently leaning towards Ass Creed but this game def is on deck for my next purchase followed up by Dues Ex.

I really do wonder how the WiiU version of Batman runs compared to the other consoles.  I'm hoping they put some decent effort into this release and used the newer architecture of the WiiU and larger memory for some improvements, even if its just a higher res or faster fps.

I'm not asking how many new pokemons there are or introducing, I'm asking how many can you capture in the game.  What I had heard is that the total you can catch in Black/White wasn't too many regardless of whether they were new or not.  Time to start some quick googling again to see how accurate this information I heard was.

It doesn't matter how many you can capture on your own but you will be able to get every Pokemon ever created for sure one way or another.

Thanks, the "low pokemon" quote from the review threw me off into thinking there aren't that many in this game.  I guess he meant there aren't that many new pokemons.

After some quick searching, I see I misunderstood the info I had heard.  I thought the 150 new pokemons in Black/White were the total amount you can get.  Looking at X and Y, as long as there are old generation pokemons to catch, then I won't care how many are new.  Given I skipped on Black/White, any pokemon from that game will also be new to me so I'm golden :)

Are we looking at less than pokemon black here?  Can that at least be answered lol.  I skipped on black/white 1 and 2 for this inevitable release lol but I had heard that black/white 1 didn't have too many.

A low pokemon count?  How many pokemon are in this release?  I'm trying to google a total count but can't find any info on it.

No one was expecting this game to save anything but for it to have had the best chance at any type of marginal success, it needed to launch ahead of the other ports.  Also, the decisions of these games were made probably before the WiiU released so sales, or lack their of, of the WiiU had nothing to do with it at that time.  Nintendo gets a bad rap for their 3rd party relationships but how do we know its their fault?  We don't know what's really going on between Nintendo and 3rd parties.  Nintendo could be trying as hard as possible outside of just handing out money bags and yet maybe this is all 3rd parties want to fund for Nintendo's consoles.  There are many reasons why 3rd parties might be doing this, (a mixed history of 3rd party sales on Nintendo software, the fact that they have to compete with Nintendo software, being generally butt hurt as it seems EA is over some falling out), who knows though.  All in all though, I don't see why this game had to be delayed in order to come out simultaneously with the other ports unless they were looking to please Sony, MS, and the PC crowd, leaving Nintendo at the back end of their thought process.

TalkBack / Re: being sent off to die
« on: October 03, 2013, 12:44:03 AM »
This whole WiiU not being "next gen" is ridiculous.  Is this IGN guy the standard bearer for the industry now?  Next Gen has always stood for the next generation of systems, which WiiU is a part of.  Regardless of how the specs stack up, its still next gen just as the Wii was from the previous gen with the PS3 and 360.

If we're to look at handhelds, is the 3ds last gen because it doesn't stack up to the Vita graphically or is the Vita next next gen because its so far ahead?.

On to this topic, this game is being sent out to die which sucks because SE will see it as an excuse not to put out quality games from here on out.  Its similar to what EA did with Mass Effect.  This game should've came out months ago ahead of the other versions.  Releasing now together with the oher releases (for more money I hear) is just going to result in a lack of sales, of which I don't believe it was going to get much to begin with.  I swear, I don't know what these companies are doing.  What reasons could they have had to delay the WiiU release to coincide with the other version's releases?

I have been wishing for this ever since Wiisports was released.  I am a huge fan of WiiSports golf and I will be all over that when they eventually put that out.  Here's hoping for some more courses though, 9 holes is definitely not enough.

I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as me Stogi, I too thought it was one of the best Zelda's ever.  I think what really got me was how much more personal and deep the story was compared to your typical Zelda' story.  The boss battles are also memorable and totally bad ass lol.  Controls were top notch for me and I still can't stop singing the praises for the sand/ocean area and dungeon.  Amazing.   Skyward Sword was the Zelda game that rekindled my love for the series as I admitted at the time of completion that my love for the series had been suffering.

I cannot imagine in my wildest dreams that whatever SE is developing for their new KH, that its impossible on the WiiU.  Hell, I just saw video of Dragon Age Inquisition that looks amazing and truly next gen, something I didn't think I would see possible on the PS3/360 and yet its somehow slated to be in development for both alongside the other next gen systems.  I'm going to go on a limb here and saying there is no way the new KH will be more technically advanced as what EA is putting behind the new Dragon Age.  So, with that logic, if the new Dragon Age can be done on current gen systems. then KH, can be done on the WiiU.  It'll more than likely have to be downscaled but no where near as bad, IMO, to what was needed in bringing Dead Rising to Wii.

RIP Louie.  Its never easy losing the little ones in our family.  I had to put one down last year and there are still reminders that take me down a peg at times.  I got 2 left now and I can only hope I have more time with them.  I'm sure Louie gave Billy many years of good memories.

Def getting a Xenogears vibe, especially during the clip where he's walking through the hanger full of mechs.  Then his main mech is red.  Now, I havently played Xenogears since it came out on the PS1 but wasn't the main characters mech red also?  I might have to do some googling.  Anyway, Xenogears or Xenoblade, I'll take a sequel of either one and like it lol.

EDIT:  Now that I've googled it, the main mech wasn't red.  One thing that struck me though is that this game has to be a sequal in someway to Xenogears.  I've looked at the box arts and titles of Xenogear, all the Xenosaga's, and Xenoblade and the big red X is only prominent in Xenogears.  Xenoblade has a similar X in its box art but it is not red.  To use that striking red paintbrushed X in your trailer for this game and to use it as your tentative title really means that that X is meant to stand out.  If its to mean something, I believe its to hint at it being somewhat related to Xenogears.

I think Nintendo is in the best position out of the main 3 to survive a collapse.  Unlike the other 2, they don't overly spend their money in game production, they are definitely more conservative.  They have, I would argue, the most loyal fans.  Also, they have their handheld which its market is in a healthier state, especially in Japan.  They'll survive.  They might not come out the same, might have to downsize, but they'll still have people interested in their products I'd like to think.  I know I would still be interested in AC, Pokémon, Zelda, Advanced wars, etc, etc, etc.....

I really need to get back and finish this game.  My problem is that it always sets a mood of dread in me that I can never play it for any decent length of time lol.  Horror games are games I can never play for hours on end.  I always need to take a brake in between sessions.  Loved the game though from the time I've put into it so far.

I find it amusing how people are quick to label the Gamepad as a gimmick controller when the PS4's remote is, IMO, more of a gimmick than the Gamepad.  They both provide tradition control inputs but the Gamepad's touch screen provides so many more uses and implementations that I wouldn't go so far as calling it a gimmick.  The PS4's touchpad is a gimmick IMO, its a feature that will never really serve any legitimate purpose and it has no way near as much as potential as the Gamepads.  Whether these potentials are eventually realized is another story but that's not what I'm discussing here.  Some may say the fact that the Gamepad provides off TV play warrants its existence in and of itself where others will want more.  Regardless though, I don't see the Gamepad as a gimmick as the experience it provided with ZombiU is unique and worth while IMO and the off TV play feature is the other unique aspect of it from the other end of the spectrum.

I had fun at Dan Laser's town last night lol, first time ever out of my original town in any AC outside of the memory card swaps from the Cube days lol.  Will be popping in others towns here and there lol.

As for the tools not changing up in town, I think that was done to facilitate players venturing out of their town in search of the other tools in other gamer's towns.  I guess this encourages communication.

I'm in heaven today lol, its raining here in upstate ny and in my AC village lol.  I'm trying to do as  much fishing as I can before I go to court tonight :/.

Funny how the only people talking about "secret cores" in this thread are the ones who believe the Wii U is "immensely" underpowered to the PS4/Xbone. Even though the data coming out is starting to show us that gap is nowhere near as huge as those people think it is.

Actually, I was just responding to the TC's belief that the Wii U somehow had more technical power in it than people thought. I believe I called bull**** on the whole "secret core" idea as just the Nintendo fanboys' way of trying to pretend the Wii U isn't immensely underpowered.

I think the issues everyone is having with your statements is how you come off as if your stating facts.  "pretend the WiiU isn't IMMENSELY underpowered".  I'll like to highlight "immensely underpowered".  That is your opinion but its coming across as if you have first hand knowledge of it being a fact.  Now I can agree with you on the WiiU being underpowered, that is a fact simply by looking at the specs.  Immensely underpowered is a whole different story.  Maybe I define "immensely" different than you but I don't think of that word when comparing the WiiU to its upcoming competition.  "immensely" is something I would say was better suited when comparing the Wii to the PS360.  That argument holds water.  Your either giving the PS4/Xbone way too much credit or severely downplaying WiiU's technical capabilities.  I know you are waiting for the WiiU to prove it to you but only time will tell on that front.  If you want further detail on what's in the WiiU, I suggest reading some of the tech threads dedicated to the WiiU at Neogaf as some of the knowledgable members there have really done a lot in figuring out what the WiiU is made of.

Once again, X is leagues behind Infamous Second Son, Destiny, Titanfall, etc. I mean, lookat the close up of that Shulk-lookalike in the first trailer. God-awful, right?

How much would that be attributed to the budget and studio size?  I'd like to think (and this is my opinion with nothing to base it on) that those Sony games are benefiting from a much larger team and even more likely a much larger budget.  I don't see Nintendo throwing AAA money into X.  Mainline Zelda will probably be series Nintendo may spend decent money on.  Every other series including Mario, I believe, is being developed on a tight budget.  The team could be as large but I think Mono is working wonders with the budget they are given.  Just look at Xenoblade, the fact that they got that out of the Wii was amazing.  I'm sure they weren't given 1st tier money for such games.  Again, this is all my opinion.  I'm sure others may see it differently.
