U.S. VC Lost Levels Release Not Limited ... For Now
« on: October 01, 2007, 09:14:27 PM »
The Lost Levels are now lost to Europe.  But what about North America?
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=14508

When Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels was announced for a European release a few weeks ago, it came with a caveat: It would only be available to download until the end of September.  It's now October, meaning that if you didn't jump on your window of opportunity—or you just couldn't get a Wii in time—you can't get it anymore.

We were curious as to whether or not Nintendo would possibly pull this same limited-availability stunt with The Lost Levels in North America.  When we asked our contact at Nintendo about this, we received a response stating, "as of yet no similar announcement has been made by NOA."  Stating the obvious, yes, but that's the official company line on the matter.

For now, people still on the prowl for the elusive Wii this holiday shouldn't worry about an important Virtual Console game like The Lost Levels up and disappearing like it did over in Europe.  However, we'll be keeping our eyes on the status of the game, in case NOA decides to be as cruel as its European counterpart.

Has there been any discussion as to WHY NOE pulled this and Sin and Punishment? Limited time only for an electronic delivery service seems kind of bass-ackwards to me.

S&P isn't time limited, unless you mean "why did NoE bring that out in Europe".

Getting a Wii in time wouldn't be hard, there's like 50+ in stock everywhere here. Getting a Wii points card seems much harder.

Also I bet NoA was secretly thinking "Who do you think we are? Sony? NoE?"

Is the VC Lost Levels any different from what I have on my All-Stars SNES cartridge?

Gameplay-wise, no, but the graphics are the original SMB-style ones, and not the SMAS revamp.

I've heard, and this is pure hearsay, that the All-stars version was made "easier" in some way. This version, presumably, leaves the original infamous difficulty intact.

But what if you delete it and didn't save it on an SD card? You can't re-download it again? Hmm...

Re-downloading could be done simply. You click on the button to view the titles you've already downloading and you would see all the titles, even those that are up for a limited time.

Just because it wouldn't be available for others to download for the first time doesn't mean they can't leave it up on their servers for those who already downloaded it to download it again =)

But... if they're going to leave it on the servers to be re-downloaded, why not let people pay them more money for it?
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

Look, I think it's pretty obvious that the Nintendo France is pushing the rest of NoE to surrender the market, and really, they're winning.  Don't worry, it won't be long until they surrender.

I dunno because they want to make it limited? It's whole premise is stupid, why should it have to make sense lol.

Well the reason is simple, it costs lots of anti-matter to transfer the Japanese only titles worldwide, so in order to save on power Nintendo has to make it limited. Duh.

The SMAS LL is easier simply because the poison mushroom is much more obvious. From what I've seen the original one is easy to mistake for a genuine mushroom when you're in a hurry.

Well if you're in a hurry you've probably played it enough to know where the poison mushrooms are in the game and wouldn't bother even hitting them otherwise.

Anybody think they will release the Mario All Stars 'updated graphics' versions of the game?  I love the 'nes'talgia, but I do love the more colorful SNES versions.

"Anybody think they will release the Mario All Stars 'updated graphics' versions of the game? I love the 'nes'talgia, but I do love the more colorful SNES versions."

Odds are they'll release Super Mario All-Stars as a straight SNES release after all the other Mario games have been released seperately.  And they'll probably charge a premium for it too so as to not cripple sales of the NES versions.
