TalkBack / Re: Why the DS is Dominating the Portable Market
« on: October 05, 2008, 03:40:22 AM »
As a (proud?) owner of the Atari Lynx, Normad and N-Gage, the PSP is easily the most unfriendly portable system ever. I've had some great sexy times with my PSP (Crush, Exit, After Burner, Ikuze! Gen-San, Parodius Portable, Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins etc.) but they've all been at home.

It's too damn fragile (DS can easily just be chucked in my bag when I'm heading out, while the PSP gets scratched up and explodes the instant it's exposed to sunlight), it still has a huge lack of true 'instant action' gaming and forget about playing a new release game you just bought for it on the train trip home, nope, gotta install constant firmware updates that require it to be plugged into the wall first.

Got EWJ, suffers from emulation problems. Nothing massive, but still! =\

Yellow borders on the What the Heck? level (on top of the standard PAL black borders). For Pete's Sake level also has a thick black border on the left hand side of the screen.

With games like Burnout now available for download, yes!

But it's cheaper to buy Burnout Paradise on disc than get the download version. Plus you don't completely waste hard drive space!

Another Code on DS was seriously one of my most anticipated titles ever, I was SO EXCITED for that game. AND NOW I'M SO EXCITED FOR THIS! My pants are already on the floor. Oh wait they've been like that all day. Still!

Art style is lovely, and Big Nose McNostril the Cowboy Cop is the best new character ever.

Like KDR, I've got DigiDrive and Boundish (only because they were on sale :tpg: ). I'd like to see Boundish remade, I got pretty addicted to that. Always wanted to play Dot Stream, so hopefully that hits WiiWare too!

Also guys, please don't try and shove them in either of the silly 'casual' or 'hardcore' memes. ;__; The industry has already suffered enough brain damage this generation trying to seperate video games. That'd be like trying to decide who Space Invaders was for.

It really comes down to which system has the exclusives that appeal to you the most. I went with a 360 because it had Earth Defense Force and Flatout Ultimate Carnage (and it was $400 cheaper than a PS3 at the time).

I can't comment on the online stuff, because the only time I hooked it up online was to laugh at the sheer size of the demos.

Has it been confirmed if 'Opa-Opa' from the DC version is in here? Shaking to Fantasy Zone's theme was one of those forever YEEESSSS moments for me.

I'll buy thirty seven copies if it's back.

Just kidding.

Thirty eight

Good review! I've got both versions of this, they each feature completely different levels (well, for the most part, there are a handful of shared ones), so it's worth picking up twice for owners of both handhelds! Like 600 levels combined for $40 US, not bad! Though the PSP one beats the crap out of the DS with the music, oh GOD it's absolute torture on the DS.

(Can I whore out my review? :tpg: )

I haven't changed my avatar in ages either! =(
I have a big 'Infernal sings NES tunes' album entry coming soon, that's when it'll return to the sig!

:(

I was kinda hoping the port would at least be decent, since the Xbox games aren't backwards compatible with the 360. UBISOOOOFT.

lol that frame rate sounds even worse than the craptastic PS2 port.

Yeah, this week's insane.

Wario, de Blob, Yakuza 2 (PAL), Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, Mega Man 9 (it better bloody well hit the PAL VC on Friday), Sim City Creator, Sonic Chronicles, Time Hollow...

General Gaming / Re: Atari to drop nearly all of its retail games.
« on: September 21, 2008, 09:20:08 AM »

Back on the subject, small games distributed online is a great idea for small independent developers, but I do NOT want to see FULL RETAIL GAMES...Why anyone would want to pay the same price for a game when you don't have a hard copy is beyond me...

The previously download-only Ratchet and Clank: Quest For Booty game for PS3 was given a physical retail release in PAL regions the other day due to the pathetic state of broadband. I don't know what it's like elsewhere, but with store sales here, it's cheaper to buy the game on disc than to download it.  :D

It's not a Hideo Kojima developed Hideo Kojima Productions Hideo Kojima game from Hideo Kojima, so the internet's not very interested.

TalkBack / Re: Gaming's Graphical Future

This generation's going to be one of the most painful to look back upon; the majority of games are going to age so badly thanks to the obsession with graphics > frame rate. Last generation sure had its big name offenders in this regard (Shadow Of The Colossus), but this gen takes the sluggish cake.

For every silky smooth Burnout Paradise and Dead Rising there's about eighty thousand other huge selling disasters that choke at any sign of action.

BUT THEY LOOK SO KEWL!!!!111

With in 5 years, 90% of what atari release will be in the downloadable area.

Where they'll make even less money! Hurray!

Seriously, just bloody die Atari; stop dragging it out. It was funny years ago, now it's just awkward.

The box quotes for TimeSplitters 4's will be awesome.

"[...] Better than Haze [...]!"

"Two thumbs up, best game in ages - Cloudizawwsume69 reader review" (taken from a review for Halo 3)

"From the developers of TimeSplitters!"
