Star Trek Possibly Coming to Wii U
« on: April 24, 2012, 03:38:59 PM »

Announcements are promised for E3, and the game is slated to appear on "all major home consoles" in early 2013.

Star Trek, the Digital Extremes-developed game that takes place after the 2009 film, might be coming to Wii U when it launches in 2013.

"We are exploring right now all of our options to get on the platforms that make sense. It's early. Good thing we have a lot of time to figure that out, and over the next few months we'll be able to announce a few more things." said Brian Miller, senior vice president and producer at Paramount Pictures.

Earlier in the year, a press release stated that Star Trek is coming to "all major home consoles" in 2013. Wii U can be assumed to be a major home console when it releases before the end of 2012, so it is very likely that Star Trek is coming to Nintendo's next system.

If nothing else, it should be on the Wii U simply because it would be a very simple task to port it over from the Xbox 360 which shares a similar architecture. They don't necessarily need to go to great lengths to utilize the touch screen on the tablet, although it would be nice if they did.

Yeah, I wish they would utilize the tablet, but my guess is that this game will be yet another subpar Star Trek game that has little to do with what Star Trek is about, so they will put minimal effort in taking advantage of what could be some neat interactive features with the tablet.

It'd be sweet if they put it on the 3DS also and made them interact with each other, (like Nintendo said they were gonna do with these 2 consoles).

It would be great to have the tablet controller be a constant LCARS feed of information.

As for the game, I'm anxious on what it will be in the end. The little information I have on it makes it out to be a Star Trek themed third-person shooter with a heavy lean in to cooperative play. Since Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force was a fun Star Trek themed first-person shooter, this new Star Trek game isn't venturing in to completely undiscovered country. Here's to hoping for the best.

[NERD ALERT]

Well, if this was a Next Generation game (or as the kids say in the streets, "ST:TNG") then the tablet could be used as an LCARS console.

Surprisingly, I was not one of the cool kids at my high school.

Oh yeah, I know I have 2 sealed copies of that game.   1 is for trading.  But people who collect Amiibos?  They really have a problem!
