A Look at Nintendo 3DS Development Hardware

What's a Game Developers Conference without development hardware?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/25595

We had a chance to take a look at some of the hardware used to test 3DS games while they are still under development. The equipment appears very similar to Nintendo DS development hardware. Take a look below at some of the hardware currently in use for creating and testing 3DS games.

First up is the PARTNER-CTR Debugger, made by Kyoto Microcomputer. CTR is the code for the 3DS. The two black cables are connected to the handheld.

Here are some close-ups of the testers' version of the 3DS. It looks very similar to retail units, though it features a silver and black color scheme, covered by a clear top, with red accents.

To store the games, there is the flash card. It looks very similar to official Nintendo DS flash cards, though it matches the color of the 3DS cards. There is no protection tab like on retail cards. This particular model is 16Gbit, or 2GB.

We also learned that some early 3DS developers also received equipment similar to that pictured in the FCC listing, namely bare circuit boards with the 3DS components.

Mm, nothing like looking at debug kits and circuit boards in the morning. Glorious.
