So, you have an Intel d845pebt2 motherboard. You can download the sound drivers here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=899&DwnldID=12170&lang=eng

Thank you for tracking that down ShyGuy, but unfortunately it has the same problem as the other driver I tried. When I go to install it I get this message:

If I click to continue then the computer will restart.

Any ideas?

Your computer is confused. As the Intel link shows, you have an Analog Devices sound chip on your motherboard. Your PC is convinced it has a Realtek sound chip. You may need to manually force it to use the AD audio drivers.

Try clicking on stop installation and proceed with downloaded executable.

What would it be named/looked like? There's a whole mess of files and folders that came with it.

Ha ha, I'm sorry, it was mixed in with a bunch of other stuff I downloaded so I didn't see it. I downloaded it again to a different location so I could see what came with it.

It works now! Thank you for your patience, I'm sure it's annoying working with someone who doesn't know what they're doing...

Ugh, got a more serious problem this time. I'm not sure if any of the lot of you will be able to help me with this one, but I figure it can do no harm to ask.

So I go to turn on the computer today, and it doesn't get past the "Windows XP" screen with the blue loading bar. I waited a good ten minutes; it rarely takes longer than one minute so there must be something wrong. I turn it off for a few minutes, then try it again. This time I'm greeted with a message which says, in so many words, that Windows was interrupted upon starting up. There are options to start Windows normally, start with last known good configuration, and start in Safe Mode. I choose the configuration one, and the same thing happens: doesn't get past the loading screen. I turn it off for a few minutes and then try Safe Mode, and get the same result.

Any ideas?

I tried that and it still didn't get past the loading screen. I waited ten minutes.

Perhaps I should just give it a rest for a while?

Pop in your windows disc and do a repair.

Be sure to have your windows registration number handy just incase. it should be on a metallic sticker somewhere on your computer if it was brand manufactured.

Ok. This is really embarassing but I need some help with a Facebook question. There a girl at work I'm intersted in that I looked up on facebook. I have not friended her yet. Howver. Her wall is open to the public. Because I find her status updates so intersting I started checking it quite a bit along with the pics on said wall. So my question is, is there any way shed be able to tell I was looking?  I know Facebook does not allow apps that would but is there a common work around for this a computer savy girl would know about or am I just being paranoid?  She removed the wall from the public yesterday and I'm fearing the worst.  If so she's gonna think I'm like the dude from American Beauty.

Isn't there a password hint? You can try booting via Windows CD or DVD and doing disabling the password. I'm pretty sure it's about as simple as that.

I guess I might as well ask this... though I expect the answer will be "no," assuming anyone will even respond.

Is there any simple way to get a Windows 98 computer to recognize a 40GB hard drive?
