This week we're talking about one thing and one thing only: Super Smash Bros. Let's face it, we still have no idea how many characters will fill the roster. We don't even know how many veteran fighters will be returning! I thought it might be best to ask our writers about it this week. Specifically, I asked "Who's the next brand new character to be announced for Super Smash Bros Wii U / 3DS?"

I was never a fan of Smash Bros., but if Donkey Kong is in it I may give it another shot.

Of these, I think that Dr. Kawashima is the most likely, though probably still has a low chance. If they're willing to represent the Wii Fit series then I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same for the Brain Age series somehow.

Metroid is due for a new character and I always thought Dark Samus would be a good choice. It won't be Ridley because Sakurai loves the taste of Caterkiller's tears.

Otherwise, it'll probably be Shulk.

Since Little Mac was a character that appealed primary to the West, I get the feeling Sakurai will try to please the Japanese fans by revealing a character that appeals more to Japan in the next Nintendo Direct which will probably be in April.

I actually think Takamaru could have a good chance of being revealed next because of that.  Like Little Mac, he was a classic character who kind of had a resurrection in the last gen.  Yeah he didn't get a full standalone game like Mac, but he did get his own special mode in the Wii version of Samurai Warriors 3 which was basically a remake of his original game, so his character has had a modern upgrade like Little Mac.  He also got his own game in Nintendo Land which is rather interesting considering his original game was never released outside of Japan while everything else in Nintendo Land was based off of the more widely know worldwide series.  Also interesting to note, every other series in Nintendo Land has a character that is playable to represent them in Smash Bros, with Takamaru correctly the only one to not be.

Plus after Melee was released Sakurai posted on the old Japanese Melee site that he was a fan of Takamaru and would add him if Nintendo ever made a new Mysterious Muasame Castle game.  Well even though they haven't made a new standalone game, his presence in Samurai Warriors 3 and Nintendo Land like I mentioned above might be enough to give Sakurai a reason.  So yeah, we got Little Mac as a classic character that has been recently updated to please Western fans, while Takamaru will be the character that fits that bill for the Japanese fans.
