warp pipe's changing
« on: April 03, 2005, 08:32:17 PM »
I just got the newsletter just now.
I don't know if this counts as an article, if it does I'll delete it.  but yeah, they're done with tunneling cubes, it seems.

Over the past year, Warp Pipe has slowly transitioned to a software
technology company, creating a product suite for video game publishers and
developers. As we have made this move forward, we have evaluated the
immediate needs of the Warp Pipe community in relation to the long term
goals of Warp Pipe Technologies and have come to the conclusion that it
is not in our best interest to allocate resources on the GameCube
tunneling project.

Although it will remain fully functional, we can no longer provide
support to our users. However, we feel that, between our support forums and
the GameCube tunneling website, there exist enough resources for the
community to aid itself when help is needed.

We would like to thank the thousands of loyal members for all their
support and patronage. We look forward to making you all proud to be
members of the Warp Pipe community as we strive to change the landscape of
online gaming as we know it.

You can access the GameCube tunneling software at the following URL:

This probably just means they are putting all their energy into Demasked. This can only be seen as a good thing, not a bad thing.

It all depends on what Demasked even is.

I get the impression that they're gonna be Nintendo's DS/Rev online/no-line development kit tools, or something.

Let's hope that maybe we find something out at E3.

Wow, they sound all formal and corporate. Who's their sugar daddy?

If they're letting Warp-Pipe go, why not make it open source? They said it themselves, they're done supporting it, so let the next guy do it, tweak it, even try to improve it!

I'm starting to get this feeling that they were hyping this service they wanted Nintendo to jump on board with and Nintendo actually sounded interested, thats why they got so excited.  However now I have a feeling Nintendo backed out and decided to write it themselves and this may be the Warp Pipe guys getting on with their lives....

I don't think Warp Pipe is working on anything "official" for Nintendo. IGN says Gamespy is working on the online tools and structure for Nintendo's new system(s), and Gamespy is part of IGN...maybe the Warp Pipe team is joining them.

I think they want to make their own gaming system, akin to Infinium's Phantom.

Are you talking about the N-Sider interview from 2004, or the one that came out yesterday?

Yeah... from what I can gather from the new interview is that they were screwed by the Nintendo/Gamespy parternship...and now they are trying to create something themselves.  More power to them I say.  I wish them all success.  You gotta love grass roots attempts at something like this.
