Resident Evil 5 - PS3 and Xbox 360 - First Screens
« on: July 19, 2005, 09:29:18 PM »
Holy. Crap.

I didn't expect to see information from this game so early!

Two scans from Famitsu

http://img251.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bio55ms.jpg

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/615/bio520xp2vx.jpg

It's in development for PS3 and Xbox 360 (wow), apparently the team behind RE4 have nothing to do with it, but the guy who did RE2 is in charge, and it's using the RE4 engine.

If this game isn't on Revolution i'm buying a PS3, because damn, I WANT THIS!

At first I thought these links were to some joke pictures. Boy was I surprised.

I would not be surprised if it does eventually come out for the REV mainly because right now there are not any dev kits out there for it, and come on its Capcom... oh wait they only port things from the gamecube.

It seems from what the pictures show, since I can't read Japanese, that it stars Billy from Zero. Maybe its a prequel that explains why he was incarcerated, or maybe it is a sequel and explains were he runs to after zero. Maybe we can see what happened to Rebecca after part one.

Hmm, actually it appears he is Chris Redfield.

I wonder what the theme of this game will be?

Doesn't look that much different from the other next-gen games. Is this one in Raccoon City again?

And is the RE 4 engine really that effective to port from the GC to the X360 or PS3? The engine itself was designed for a single hardware thread with no additional processors except sound and graphics.

I looked at the katakana all over the page and found no name for the dude.  So he's "unknown" at this point.  As for "RE4 engine", it refers to the gameplay perspective, not graphics.

Personally, I think it's too early for #5.  So I guess Capcom's done with its individual, carefully made RE4 (thank you Mikami-san), and has got tons of empty buckets waiting for the RE5-Cow to get to work.

I honestly still think that  it is Billy with short hair, but I could be wrong.

And as far as it being a re-skined RE4, I wouldn't mind that so much, it wasn't like RE4 was a bad game to begin with. This is coming from someone who enjoyed each and every version of Street Fighter II.

There's nothing wrong with taking on a similar gameplay.  It has been the same from the first RE game made to RE Zero.  Their new engine is still new so why improve upon that?  It isn't milking.  If it was milking then Zelda and Mario are serious milking.

Professional: That'd be gameplay, NOT engine. The engine acts as the translation between the game logic and the hardware. The same engine can handle vastly different game logics. I've seen the Unreal Engine run FPSes, MMORPGs and even a Total Annihilation remake.

Since Mikami and Kobayashi aren't involved, and the team is completely new, I'm really not seeing this being better than RE4, even if Jun Takeuchi is producing...

They're not completely new.  According to gamesarefun.com, theyworked on Resident Evil.  I'm not sure if that means the original for PlayStation, or the Remake for GameCube.

KDR:  My comment was in reference to Mario's use of "engine," which (i think) lead to your question about the porting of RE4's engine.  My aim was to point out the article says the new game borrows RE4's "user style" (from the katakana) which I interpret as gameplay perspective, since I didn't believe RE4's engine was being ported in the first place.

Storywise, will this be the game that RE4 should have been?

Remember our RE4 isn't remotely the original RE4.
I love RE4 to death, but storywise RE4 started a whole new story/arc without really tying up any lose ends that the previous games left.

The future will tell I guess...

I think that the guy, whoever he is, should shave at the end.

And I have nowhere near thee financial income to go splurging on a PS3 just for RE5. So if it ain't commin' out on the Rev, then I ain't gettin' it.

Well, that's because the series isn't finished...

Storyline-wise, RE5 may be where the "plan" that started in RE4 will truely begin...(I think it takes place in Africa this time)

I'm not sure if you guys knew this, but there was a Sony conference last nite in Japan and they showed the RE5 trailer that those pics were taken from.

Resident Evil 5 trailer

I don't know if I just think too highly of RE4 on GC but this RE5 trailer looks just like RE4 only in HD!!

If Rev can't handle that considering that the RE4 engine is being used and it was originally tailored to the GC then I will be very dissapointed

RE4 for PS2 has no chance. Another late-generation classic lost. Thanks Capcom.

I think someone is purposley trying to lower Capcom stock so that they can buy more shares.

RE4 for GC, don't let that sell to capacity announce RE4 for PS2 so that everyone waits!!!

RE4 for PS2, don't let that sell either, announce RE5 for PS3 & X360!!!
