TalkBack / Need Soul Calibur 2?
« on: March 29, 2003, 05:32:04 AM »
Reports have been flooding in that SC2 is sold out at import stores.  We have a solution.

Since Soul Calibur 2 isn't releasing until the fall in North America, it's been one of the hottest selling import games this year.  Currently, most stores are completely sold out.

Video Game Depot contacted me today, and they're receiving their second shipment of Soul Calibur 2 for GameCube on Monday.  If you're interested in getting a copy, they're accepting pre-orders now.  All pre-orders will be shipped on Monday.

Thanks to Video Game Depot for the heads up!

NWR Feedback / Anyone else having trouble with recent PGC WMV files?
« on: March 29, 2003, 05:21:45 AM »
Ok, here's the deal with the WMVs.  They are encoded in WM9.  I thought they were encoded in 8, but my new puter has 9 already on it.  Yes, everyone wants their own specific flavor and unfortunately we can't cater to everyone.  Download the latest Windows Media Player.  They'll play fine for you.

I did make the latest SC movies in MPEG format, but you'll notice how much larger those are.  Size is the major reason we go with Windows Media.  Sure we could go with ____ Format, but then no matter what format, you still have to download some sort of codec, or what have you.

Hey, at least we're giving you free movies

TalkBack / Want To Buy The Wind Waker Soundtrack?
« on: March 28, 2003, 10:47:56 AM »
We've been playing it for over a week and getting lots of e-mails from interested parties.  So where can you import this soundtrack?  UPDATED: Now Shipping!

UPDATE: Video Game Depot has gotten enough pre-orders to warrant carrying the CD, and sent out their first shipment of soundtracks last week. There are some left in stock, so if you've been holding back, now's your chance.

I have gotten truckloads of e-mails from people who want to get their hands on the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker soundtrack that we've been playing.  It was released in Japan last week, but it's nearly impossible to import.  And no, you don't need a special CD player.

So I contacted our import partners Video  Game Depot and had them see if they could get some in stock.  Today they've informed me they are taking pre-orders for the soundtrack, and if they get enough pre-orders for the soundtrack, they'll be able to carry them.

Very good news for people who want to import this gem!

Well in a sense it is private.  We don't sift through your messages.  So lighten up.  If someone wants to hack your PC, they'll do it.  Ultimately we don't want to deal with any trade problems-lawsuits-etc.  We've got enough on our plate.  So basically, that's why we're not going to do something like this.

That's a great question.  I would assume it would work.  What I'd also hope to assume is that Nintendo will be selling replacement discs sometime in the future on the US website.  But that's all speculation.  There's also a rumor going around that the US version won't have a boot disc.  But that's mere speculation as well.

The Wait is over for the Legend of Zelda

Record-breaking Pre-sell Supports Launch Of Year's Most Anticipated Title

REDMOND, Wash.--March 25, 2003--The most timeless tale of good versus evil in the world of video games returns with the launch of the highly anticipated The Legend of Zelda(R): The Wind Waker(TM) exclusively for Nintendo GameCube(TM).

In a time when mythical narratives and heroic figures like Frodo Baggins and Harry Potter are resurgent in popular culture, Nintendo producer Shigeru Miyamoto returns beloved characters Zelda(TM) and Link to the interactive landscape. The record-breaking success of the pre-sell program, with more than 600,000 consumers reserving advance copies, proves the franchise's undiminished popularity with game fans of all ages.

Since its initial debut in 1987, more than 36 million Zelda games have sold worldwide. Now, Link returns in this high seas adventure wielding a magical baton called the Wind Waker and grabbing players with an incredibly expressive animation style that makes this the most captivating title yet in the celebrated series. Using the Wind Waker, Link learns to compose songs that control wind patterns, allowing him to sail by way of air currents, navigate through ocean gales and even summon cyclones.

"The overwhelming response to the pre-sell program proves there is incredible anticipation for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker," explains George Harrison, senior vice president, marketing and corporate communications, Nintendo of America Inc. "Any Zelda launch is an event and this is no exception. Gamers have been clamoring for this title and it does not disappoint."

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker has tremendous depth of game play and seamless animation unparalleled in video game history. Players of all ages will be mesmerized by Link's world brought to life through incredible toon-shaded graphics and a unique facial animation system expressing emotion, warnings and even tips to the player. In the game, Link battles beautifully animated enemies, explores richly detailed environments, and conducts the wind with the power of the Wind Waker. Using the connectivity feature, players link the Game Boy(R) Advance and Nintendo GameCube to summon the mapmaker Tingle to uncover hidden secrets helping Link in his voyage.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is available in stores for a suggested retail price of $49.99.

TalkBack / Disney Meets Tony Hawk
« on: March 24, 2003, 05:00:00 AM »
If you're going to use technology for a skateboarding game, it might as well be the Tony Hawk Engine...

ACTIVISION USES TONY HAWK'S PRO SKATER VIDEO GAME ENGINE TECHNOLOGY TO POWER DISNEY PICTURES' PRESENTATION OF PIXAR ANIMATION STUDIOS "TOY STORY 2," "DISNEY'S THE LION KING," AND "DISNEY'S TARZAN " CHARACTERS INTO SKATEBOARDING PROS

Also Allows Players to Create Their Own Personalised Skater

London, UK - March 20, 2003 - Activision Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and Disney Interactive today announced a new video game that gives skateboarding a magical twist. Designed to appeal to children and teens ages 6 - 14, Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure will use cutting-edge technology from Activision's latest Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 engine to allow characters from three beloved animated films: Walt Disney Pictures' presentation of Pixar Animation Studios' "Toy Story 2," "Disney's Tarzan " and "Disney's The Lion King" to skateboard just like the pros in their respective worlds for the first time. In addition to these characters, the new game includes a Create-A-Skater option where players can customize a youthful skater's "look" by selecting clothing and accessories. Furthermore, as an Activision first, the company is holding a nationwide casting call search for 10 real kids who will become digitised characters in the game.

"At Activision our goal is always to couple the best gameplay experience with all the properties we have, whether the game is based on a professional athlete, a movie or kid-oriented characters," said Kathy Vrabeck, executive vice president, global publishing and brand management, Activision, Inc. "Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure" takes all of the professional moves and realistic skateboard experience of our best-selling Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 game and gives these well-loved characters new adventures as skateboarders in their traditional environments. We are also very excited about the Create-A-Skater feature that allows our consumers to create unlimited hours of personalized fun."

"By working with innovative leaders in the industry, we are able to create great games that reflect the true spirit of the films," said Sanjeev Lamba, vice president of marketing and international, Disney Interactive. "We're pleased to continue our ongoing relationship with Activision on Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure which gives some of our beloved movie characters entirely new adventures in skateboarding."

Skate Like A Pro - Disney Style

Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure is the first time Buzz Lightyear and Woody from Walt Disney Pictures' presentation of Pixar Animation Studios' "Toy Story 2," Young Tarzan and Terk from "Disney's Tarzan" and Simba and Rafeeki from "Disney's The Lion King" have been showcased in the same video game. Players skate as their favourite characters, performing moves such as ollies, rail grinds, spins and other expert balance moves. The characters from the film can skate through each of their worlds, such as Simba and Rafeeki in Pride Rock, Young Tarzan and Terk in Tarzan's Treehouse and Buzz Lightyear and Woody in Pizza Planet, and interact with the other characters that live in those worlds. The game also provides an abundance of fun factor and offers players skateboards that resemble bamboo rafts, frying pans and other non-traditional items. Beyond the skateboard challenge there are puzzles to solve, secret areas to explore and collectibles to find on each level of the game.

The game is in development for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system and Nintendo GameCube and will feature 12 playable characters to choose from as well as diverse gameplay modes that include Adventure Mode, where gamers complete goals as their favourite characters, or as a real world character from the Create-A-Skater feature. The game also features a Multiplayer option for split-screen competition.

The game is also being developed for Game Boy Advance and will feature six playable characters to choose from and three gameplay modes: Story, to unlock new levels by completing goals; Single Session, to achieve high scores; and Multiplayer, to engage in head-to-head competition.

Create-A-Skater

In addition to being able to skate throughout multiple universes, gamers will start off in a real world locale where they can Create-A-Skater and customize their skater with everything from different clothes, hair color and styles (such as Mohawks), shoes, helmets and boards. In addition to customizing, players will be able to encounter real world elements such as fast food restaurants, different clothing brands and styles and other popular culture references.

Disney's Extreme Skate Adventure will be available late summer for the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube and Game Boy Advance. This game as not yet been rated by the ELSPA.

NWR Feedback / Advertisements (A reccomendation for the site)

It's just getting a little tiring to keep sifting throught the 18 posts about people complaining about the ads.  Ads = survival.  People just have to get over it.

sure, anything like that is legal.

NWR Feedback / Ads
« on: March 17, 2003, 07:34:15 AM »
"I actually agree with that. It's like a donation, but you get a bonus by doing so. Hell, you can make it a donator bonus. If you pay $5 per month, no ads for you. I think that it would work great myself, although I can't afford to do so, or have a credit card. "

Another great suggestion, yet people aren't going to pay anyway.  So we need to have the ads.

Us "stooping so low" is just lame.  We try to make it as unobtrusive as possible.  Just like Nintendo, we're a business.  We need to make money here too.
