Nintendo Gaming / Re: Harvest Moon: Tree Of Peace
« on: May 08, 2008, 08:37:37 PM »
I'll bet Harvest Moon 64's strong reputation is somewhat based on the fact that for most people it was probably the first Harvest Moon game they ever played.  The SNES game was pretty damn obscure and released in 1997 well after the N64 was already out.  The first Gameboy game was quite limited and released pre-Pokemon and pre-GBC (ie: no one played it).  HM64 was the first Harvest Moon game to be released at a time where it would be noticed.

The core gameplay of Harvest Moon is so solid that anyone's first experience is going to be memorable.  But the concept is limited in that sequels aren't going to improve it much.  It's a lot like Bomberman.  Your first Bomberman game is a classic.  However the sequels feel like more of the same because that initial thrill of how new the experience is isn't there.

So this is probably going to be a good game because, you know, it's Harvest Moon.  However for anyone who has already played a Harvest Moon game it might feel like it's missing something.

They COULD cut back on the sequels a bit though.  Did the Cube really need THREE Harvest Moon games?  And why don't they just allow you to pick if you want to be a boy or girl?  Releasing a seperate girls version is pretty lame.

I was given it as a gift in '97 before i saved up enough allowance to buy myself my 64. Loved it to death and its the only reason i bought HM64. For the first few months i liked the SNES version better but eventually I thought HM64 was a good improvement. The fact alone that you could continue your game after your father comes to evaluate you.. did that really need a spoiler? was awesome to me because i hated having to re-start a save file on my SNES game.

I tried the first HM game to come out on GC but graphics and art direction took the charm of the latter two titles away and i just couldn't play it. I'd love an updated remake of HM64 to appear on my DS so i could play it a few mins at a time wherever i am. I have AC but i havent touched it in months so i don't want to see how messed up my town has become. HM beats AC in the casual sim's in my opinion.

Speaking of HM, i've been trying to find the Rune Factory titles for DS with no success. whats up with that?

Only one of the Rune titles is out in America and the last time I was at Best Buy they had at least 12 copies.  I am holding out for the supposedly far superior Japanese sequel which apparently fixed most of the first game's flaws.

My fav HM was the one on the GBC hands down.  I feel that while the wooing was fairly weak, the actual harvesting and planting was super sound.

General Chat / Re: So, am I a bad (dog) dad?
« on: May 08, 2008, 08:28:41 PM »
1. Just be careful of what fence you choose.  Make sure its not one the dogs can jump over or get caught on because dogs will see something on the other side of the fence and charge it.

2.  Try bitter spray, located at pet stores everywhere, you can spray the the stuff the dogs usually chew on.  It has a horrible bitter taste that should keep the dogs at bay.  I have also heard making a hot pepper solution and spraying it on objects as well.  The whole idea is to get the dogs associating the bad flavor with the object they aren't supposed to chew.

3.  I am not a outdoor dog person because I feel the midwest really isnt the best place to do it.  The winters can get too bad and the summers can get too hot.  I just like my dogs to spend time with me at all times even when I am stuck at the computer.  I think my dogs have always enjoyed keeping me company even if it means no play time and just hanging around me.  I just think it keeps them calmer knowing they are near me instead of being separated.  I have had outdoor dogs in the past and the most common problems I always run into is bad chewing problems, barking incessantly, and trying to get into trouble.  I think the outdoors are filled with too many temptations.  Theres always animals running around, people walking by on the sidewalk, neighbor  kids laughing playing in their yards, other dogs outside.  Dogs get bored and try to have fun so its hard to keep them entertained.

I pretty much gave up on them, but you have to rub a small area back and forth.
Really, really, fast might I add, like almost to the point of where you believe you are going to break your screen fast, then it works. . .

Love the demos, I love the fact that even the Ninja Gaiden demo offers you harder difficulties everytime you beat the demo O_o.

General Chat / Re: Need help buying a new tv
« on: May 06, 2008, 12:54:02 PM »
Olevia and LG were both created to make a significantly cheaper brand of LCD or Plasma television set.  Both companies set out to make top quality T.V.s that rivaled popular brands to basically steal their customers.  Its a good idea company wise but its taken them awhile to get GOOD recognition in the market.  It has made them tons of money by being the cheaper alternative but some people still view them as lower brands.  I almost bought an LG LCD tv before I bought my Samsung Plasma, but a few of my friends own LGs and love them.  I think my uncle has an Olevia and loves it as well.

Just know this, purchasing a tv like that from Newegg is a very serious risky thing.  The moment you sign the paper from the delivery guy accepting the tv, its not Newegg's problem anymore.  This means if you open that box and your tv wont work or has a dead pixel or any other issue, you have to deal with the company themselves.

I personally was too scared to buy from Newegg because of that policy so I ended up buying my set at Fry's Electronics.   Their policy is an open box 30 day policy meaning you can return it within the first 30 days of purchase for any reason, even if you just dont like it.  When you are spending well over a grand money to me becomes precious so I like to make sure I have my back covered just in case.  Just a lil friendly advice from your local Darkheart.

Really?  I didn't die until the Joshua chapter.  In matter of fact up until the 2nd major boss I have had no issues but now the game has become extremely hard, perhaps I should grind a few level to pick it up.

I really love this story though, the little plot twists here and there really make you rethink some characters.

You guys are looking way too hard into a video game. . . I heard that if you play all the SSE cut scenes backwards you can hear Sakurai swearing in Russian at children claiming Kirby is their god.

This isnt controversial, go see the Mario Golf GBA review or the Super Swing Golf review talkbacks, there is some nasty commentary from the peanut gallery in both of those.

I have yet to even hear the Speed Racer Theme song in any of the movie or game trailers... I am sorry the game nor the movie really reminds me of speed racer, only the car and Speed.

No one was asking for motion controls
Well. . . .since the Wii controller was shown, a lot of people wanted motion controls for certain games including Mario Kart.  Can you imagine if they didnt put it in this game?  Reviewers would of torn it to shreds that Nintendo is supposed to be innovating the industry with this console and all they have done is put out their same old games like Smash and Mario Kart and had basic GC controls.

Can you save replays? I'd love to see it.  Also, I think maybe jumping right on the final blow from a plow block might cancel it out, but I'm not sure. :/
I was watching youtube the other day and you can avoid it you have to time the hop just before the block disappears.

Its not hopping, its doing tricks.  As soon as the POW blocks starts up, just shake your controller until its done and you will recover.

Anyone else notice a pattern here?  ;)

Yea they start out with one good game and as they continue down the list the games get crappier.

Still enjoying the game the main character is becoming less emo but the whole item inventory and sub menu systems are so damn confusing, toss in the clothing, food, and fashion brand stuff to make me a very confused customer @___@. . .

That always confused me, in some games they are twins since babies but in other games and cartoon references Mario is the older bro and Luigi is the younger one . . .
