Bomberman Hero Hits European Virtual Console This Week

Another Nintendo 64 game is on the way to the European Virtual Console.

Come this Friday, European Wii owners will be able to download the game for 1,000 Nintendo Points. The game has recently been rated by the ESRB, hinting at a North American release in the future.

It is always an exciting event when a Nintendo 64 game hits the Virtual Console, especially considering that only a handful have been released since the Wii’s inception in 2006. Bomberman Hero from Hudson will join the slim list of Nintendo 64 classic titles available on service.

Bomberman Hero was originally published by Nintendo and released worldwide in 1998.

I'm a little surprised to see this game get put up before Bomberman 64 which was released first, but it's nice to see another Nintendo 64 game nonetheless. It's different from your typical Bomberman game, it's a 3D platformer and there's no multiplayer, but it's a fun little game. It's also challenging, if you go for the high scores on each stage.

Before anyone thinks this is the first full third-party N64 game on the VC, it was published by Nintendo in North America and Europe.

Which is why I think the original story says the game was published by Nintendo.

I am glad to see another N64 game on the service, but I am wondering if we will ever see one that Nintendo was not involved with.

It isn't looking likely. I have no idea if Nintendo is actually preventing games from being released that they didn't publish, or if third-parties just don't care about N64. Or maybe they dumped all their original N64 cartridges into landfills and no longer have any records of them.
