Nintendo Gaming / RE: VR goggles the "new and unique product"?

You only wear the glasses when you're playing the game. They're not for all-day use.

If these are video glasses, there could be a mode that allows you to see the outside world, while still playing the game. i won't try explaining my second point; it was just an observation and not very important, especially at 1:20 in the morning.

i wasn't interested in it myself when it was on Cube, but it looks interesting now. Some of the creatures you become are a bit odd, but i'd definitely like to see more. i just wish Rare would get rid of those pornstar female character models.

sarcasm*Yeah, exactly like the social stigma of using controllers had to be overcome*sarcasm* The goggles would be used as a peripheral just like a controller. I really don't think you'll have to overcome any social stigma inside the privacy of your own home.

i was referring to their use in public, assuming this product was a portable one.

What the hell? Since when has the GBA had a social stigma and what do you mean for "years"? As far as I remember it was popular from day one.

Referring to mainstream here, specifically those who may have been older (20s or so) who wouldn't touch a GBA. i've seen several more people in this group with SPs over standard GBAs. Of course there may be some who simply never ventured out of the house with their GBA, but proudly play their new SPs in public. Just an observation.

Misspelled "shied" in original post. Too lazy to edit it so i'm noting it here.

Not that i can talk, but drinking and taking sleeping pills isn't exactly something people who aren't trying to die do. If you're looking to enhance your experience then, well... i guess i shouldn't promote that.

Geez, how did a thread about tequila turn into a thread about dying? The off-topic forum... i tell ya!

Actually, i've little interest to work at an arcade. i've little interest in working in a game store (again), but i'll probably do it for some length of time when i move back to Michigan. i wouldn't mind be a rep or working at a major or favorite game company's office though. Nintendo's hiring reps in the area where i used to live. If i was close to moving i'd send my resume.

i doubt we'll see first party video glasses for some time simply given the social stigma alone. For years people have shyed away from the GBA simply based on its design, now the GBA SP is selling in droves. No one in the mainsteam wants to look be an outcast, so any such device will have to overcome the "geek factor" before becoming a salable reality.

Melatonin works much better than sleeping pills for me. i wake up feeling energized, even moreso than when i'm not taking it, and i have strange but vivid dreams, usually in black in white.

General Gaming / RE: questions reguarding GC prologic 2
« on: September 14, 2003, 07:49:03 PM »
1.) Pro Logic II uses the standard stereo cables to produce surround sound. No additional cables are necessary.

2.) Audio recievers have plugs for the yellow-red-white RCA jacks (like those on the Gamecube AV cable). Most also accept S-video and component video inputs. Don't worry if the recevier has more inputs than what your Gamecube has. Whatever connection your Gamecube is using, your receiver should be able to use the same.

i intended to post earlier, but was busy all day. Despite my post being old, i'll post it anyway.

i'm more of a vodka and gin man, but i mix a few tequila drinks every now and then. Here's a couple of mine. Measurements might be a bit off since i haven't made one in a while. i mix by eye, so as long as you have an idea how much to add of each ingredient, you're good.

Classic Margarita:
2 ounces of tequila
1 1/3 ounce of Cointreau
2/3 ounce of lime juice

Brave Bull:
1 1/4 ounces of tequila
3/4  ounce of Kahlua

Acapulco:
1 1/2 ounces of tequila
1/2 ounce of Cointreau
1/2 ounce of rum
splash of lime juice & sour mix

i know someone else posted it but above is how i make them. If you wanna make frozen versions of those, add more sour mix/margarita mix and mix with crushed ice. i usually just pour them over ice myself; crushing ice is too much trouble for when i just want a drink.

i recommend Cointreau, which is one of the better triple secs available. Once you've tasted it, you won't want to go back to anything with "triple sec" emblazened on the label. It's expensive, but worth it, and will last a while used in moderation. Aside from stocking Cointreau (or if you're cheap, triple sec), i also recommend stocking lime juice (Rose's is usually it), and a sour mix. You can use a margarita mix, but i prefer a sour mix. And the free ones you get with some tequilas taste like arse if you don't doctor them up (Cointreau and lime juice works here). When i'm mixing drinks, Cointreau, lime juice, or sour mix is an ingredient 90% of the time; your mileage may vary. You can use fresh limes as well, but for the sake of convenience i use Rose's, which is also presweetened a bit.

General Gaming / RE: Broken GBA and GC mod

my other question is whats the best way to mod a GC to play imported games?? I want to import the Naruto fighting game. If you don't know Naruto is a kick a$$ anime that unfortunately only airs in Japan right now, so the chances of America getting this game are slim to none.

Naruto is an average fighting game. It gets points for following the style of the anime (minus the music), but there's hardly any depth to it at all, even as a fighter. After you get all the characters, there's no compelling reason to keep playing. i wrote my impressions on it in the Import forum, do a search for it.

Freeloader is a quick (and portable) way to play imports. It's currently what i use. However, if you can find a place that mods GCs online, i'd recommend that method. Freeloader doesn't show Japanese characters correctly, and in some games (like F-Zero) some graphics don't show at all.

Hopefully this'll be and item for Nintendo Club members to buy. Doubt i'll be able to get a Gamecube just for this.

Yeah, i've played both on the screen, although they're a bit small. It's sometimes easy to miss smaller enemies, and in Zelda mistime jumps, but it's playable.

Both shots are 800x600. The second shot's not too good; i didn't have much light and didn't feel like fiddling with flash.

My main systems and games, my receiver, and tv. i'm getting rid of my tv as it's permanently green tinted; sometime in the future a widescreen LCD display will fit there. i'm playing Metal Gear Solid, and since i made it to Metal Gear Rex with low health and one ration, i get that screen often. Notice the Gamecube in the foreground.

Gamecube with Intec five inch LCD screen, Wavebird, no disc. The sound on the monitor is pretty good, sometimes i run a cable from my receiver to get Pro Logic II sound. Also of note, my 19" computer monitor, Chocobo bank, and Minidisc recorder (far right).

For no good reason, my GTA: Vice City display. Getting rid of it before i move. Gotta make room for more promo stuff.

i won't bother posting shots of the rest of my room since it's pretty bland. i'm in the process of moving so i'm not too concerned about it looking good right now.

General Gaming / RE: My custom GameCube

Very slick. i was thinking of doing the same thing too, but i keep my Cube on all the time practically and the orange glow bothers me at night. There is a way to have the LEDs on only when a controller is plugged in. i saw it on a Japanese site months ago, but i can't find the URL. If i find my VOM before i move, i'll take my Cube apart and see what's what.

Don't feel bad, i'm in the exact same boat. As a matter of fact, i haven't beaten any of the games you mentioned, although i got them all on release day. i don't think i'll ever beat SMS;  i just don't have the interest to play it, nor do i have the heart to sell it. Back in the 8/16-bit days i beat almost every game i came across, whether it was owned, rented, or borrowed. i do consult GameFAQs for those games i haven't played in ages, simply refresh my memory on where i was and what i need to do.

On the other hand, i've been beating games on previous systems that i never finished. i'm wading through Shenmue 2 on Dreamcast and i'm trying to be Metal Gear Solid for the umpeenth time (accidentally deleted my old save file), but Metal Gear Rex is kicking my butt. That Playstation's not going off until he's dead.

i'd look into how the sports games stack up on PS2 and Xbox, so that you can get some idea of how good either system will be in the short term. Xbox has Xbox Live!, but EA doesn't support Live! and ESPN's support for it is limited, though on the PS2 online's no problem.

Which fight did they change the outcome?

The fight between Shikamaru and the sound kunoichi.

I bet that Rock Lee will win even though I still consider him to not be stronger than Gaara.

Funny thing is, there's no way to know for sure who'll win. i've read the manga and they already changed the outcome of one of the fights, so there's no telling.

What's certain is that the coming episodes will kick all flavors of arse. You'll see.

Wow, congrats GreY Ninja. i remember you said you'd have a good job in September, but i didn't know it'd be this good. Sounds like The Globex Corporation from the Simpsons, in which case i'll gladly align your to leader's views on anything.

Edit: That's what i get for responding to a post in the morning, but actually submitting my respone eighteen hours later. Grey Ninja, what's beer taste like? It's been so long, i've forgotten. i'm still in a drought myself...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: "N5" Controller.
« on: September 03, 2003, 07:06:40 PM »
i'd rather Nintendo choose a more standard button layout for their next system. i LOVE the idea of the A button being larger. Ideally, it would be mapped to the function that would be performed the most (aside from moving), but as Ian Sane said, for third parties this isn't as ideal. A pad more like his, with equal emphasis on the "action" buttons is what i'm looking for. A bigger D-pad wouldn't hurt. My medium thumbs have no problems with it but i could see how many people would.

i also like ThePerm's idea of two buttons on the back, similar to the N64's Z button. It keeps the face of the controller less cluttered, and gives the player two more options. A "select" buttons, they'd be great for picking weapons (hold one down and scroll through weapons with the analog stick). The main problem is that no one expects buttons on the back of the controller. Most people who first grab the GC controller don't even noticed the Z button. If it's not on the face, it won't get used. Scratch that idea.
