Twilight Princess HD Amiibo Functions Confirmed

Famitsu confirms some of the rumors of last week

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/41800/twilight-princess-hd-amiibo-functions-confirmed

More Twilight Princess HD information has emerged from this week's edition of Famitsu, including confirmation of last week's rumor.

The magazine confirmed that the Wolf Link amiibo can be tapped at a certain time to unlock a new dungeon whose name roughly translates to "Thorough Battle: Trial of the Beast". The reward for clearing the dungeon is a "bottomless" wallet with a 9999 Rupee capacity.

The other Zelda amiibo of the Super Smash Bros line had their boosters confirmed in the same piece. Zelda and Sheik will recover hearts, Link and Toon Link will recover arrows, while tapping Ganondorf will cause double damage. It isn't clear if this is the previously confirmed Hero Mode, or if Ganondorf's effect stacks on top of Hero Mode for a 4x damage multiplier.

"HEY GUYZ!!1! PAY2WIN AMIIBO!1!!1"

Being a smartass aside, it sounds like Great Fairy Fountain pt2. Nothing amazing. The biggest wallet in the original release was 1000 rupees (Giant's Wallet) and required a game long task. Now if this nullfies the bug collecting, then there is a problem, but "tapped at a certain time" probably means after you get the Giant's Wallet. In which case at that point of the game rupee collecting is pretty irrelevant because the major wallet busting stuff should be done by then. So overall I'm not impressed at all and this seems like a pretty minor use for amiibo.

It seems to me that "tapped at a certain time" is referring to when the player is prompted to scan the amiibo, as opposed to swiping it at anytime during playtime and expecting it to work. I have to assume the game will just have an additional wallet upgrade level that will just advance it to the next size-- if you haven't already completed the bug catching quest upon finishing the dungeon, you'll get the Giant's Wallet there and the Bottomless Wallet will just be the final upgrade whenever you get it.

IIRC I had way more rupees than I knew what to do with anyways, even without the Giant's Wallet. Not a big deal.

Really, I don't think this is a big deal either way. Extra dungeon is cool. Big wallet is cool. Neither are game breaking, if you do/don't have them... which is kind of what I'd like to see from Amiibo.

That Ganondorg + Hero Mode damage multiplier sounds interesting but I'm not sure if I'm good enough to give it a try.

I'm just gonna let people on YouTube try that out for me.

The Giant's Wallet's sole purpose was to afford to Magic Armor and give it ammo (If I remember correctly haven't played in forever). The Bottomless wallet could give the Magic armor a longer period and you could cheat the Great Fairy Fountain with it....but gathering 9999 rupees would be tedious as hell unless you completed to Poe Soul questline, which is also tedious, and go back and forth gathering money from the cat, which is also tedious.

The Ganondorf+Hero Mode challenge might be interesting. Outside of dying instantly until you get 5 hearts.

Less concerned about the reward for said dungeon than the content that's being gated.

If it's just a room with waves of enemies that need to be completed before getting a reward, it's less of an issue to me.

If we're talking about a fully realized dungeon that is good game content and similar length, then I'm definitely not a fan.

All in all, I don't know why people are so flippant about concerns with how Nintendo's driving Amiibo usage.  I think they're given a bit of a free pass when they do something that other developers would get flack for.

The dungeon sounds a lot like a repeat of the Cave of Ordeals...which is probably all I should have expected.

Give it ammo....yes, but the Magic Armor is only like 598 rupees once you fund Malo Mart's move to Castle Town.

I kind of want to see a fundamental change to the Magic Armor--like it only consumes rupees if you are hit instead of automatically. Is there an amiibo for that?

Nintendo released and quickly pulled the Amiibo trailer for Twilight Princess HD which was in English with (I think) German subtitles. Gamexplain still has the trailer up. Pretty much everything from Famitsu is reconfirmed. The new dungeon (if you can call it that) is called "Cave of Shadows" in English and it looks like another Cave of Ordeals dealie though it's implied that you have to play as Wolf Link and Midna the entire time. You can replay it for high scores any time by tapping the Amiibo. You're not missing much in-game content if you don't have the Wolf Link and Midna Amiibo so anyone complaining about it can chill out. Amiibo is just an inessential as ever. I presume the Wolf Link and Midna Amiibo will unlock a similar Cave of Shadows in Zelda Wii U which was reconfirmed to work with the Amiibo.

The trailer doesn't mention what the prize is at the end of the Cave of Shadows though according to the article, it's the bottomless wallet which is pretty pointless since presumably you'd want the wallet for the magic armor and you can just tap the Link or Toon Link Amiibo to replenish hearts.

I was kind of hoping it'd be a dungeon with puzzles and whatnot with a completely unnecessary yet cool prize like the magic cape from A Link to the Past or something. It took me something like 15 years to play the (admittedly mediocre) color dungeon in Link's Awakening DX since I never had a Gameboy Color. It's fine either way. The new Amiibo looks so cool.

I could have sworn you needed the Giant's wallet for a specific item and I thought it was the Magic Armor. I haven't played since the year the game released so I don't remember  :P:
