01. NSMBW
18. NSMBDS

05. Mario Kart Wii
16. Mario Kart DS

These games don't just have legs, they have hiking boots and ski poles. They are in for the long haul cross generation trek.

MKDS came out at Nov. 2005 and still making the Top 20!!! 4yrs 3months later. It's just insane.

NSMB DS came out May of 2006 and is still in the Top 20!! 3 months away from 4 yrs and it's still going! These games are the energizers of the gaming industry only the energizer bunny has nothing on them.

Remember DQVIII, PJ's King Kong, PD0, and Kameo? all came out in Nov. 2005.
Those games all ran out of gas a long time ago and MKDS is still making laps.

I find it interesting that Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks sales seem to have plummeted off a cliff just a month after its original release, yet Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story is still in the Top 20.  I guess NSMBW's success is spilling over into the other Mario properties, because you wouldn't think a Nintendo RPG would have held out for this long.

I'm also surprised that MAG is up there in the Top 20 at all, given that every video I've seen of that game just looks like the most generic and boring FPS action ever.  :confused;

On a related note, Bioshock 2 had better be in the Top 10 NPDs next month (360 version, probably, due to original install base and Xbox Live multiplayer).

NSMBW has hooked the tow cables of some older Mario games and drug them back up to the surface. I wonder if SMG2 will have the same effect, or will it just attach it's cable to NSMBW's tow and go along for the ride?

Yeah, whenever I think of Zelda games I think of the middle-ages, but trains and cowboys and stuff belong in the wild west so it didn't seem like a real authentic Zelda game to me, and therefore I'm not interested in it AT ALL. Zelda needs to stay in the medieval era where it belongs.

Then again, I also wonder if Mario has any business going out into outer space.

Zelda games tend to follow the pattern of non-Nintendo games in that they get most of their sales early on. Zelda games don't seem to get the evergreen effect like Mario games do.

Not exactly, Zelda games do have long legs and put up good sales numbers after launch.  I wouldn't be surprised if Spirit Tracks ended up selling somewhere between 50-100k for this month, and then manages to continuing selling between 50-100k every month for the rest of the year.  Just because the numbers aren't up there's with Mario's doesn't mean much since unless your Pokemon or the Wii___ series, nobody else comes close to matching Mario.

Plus it should also be noted that the Zelda series is much more popular on home consoles then handhelds.  Unlike Mario who can do well on both, the Zelda fanbase doesn't seem as interested in it's portable counterparts.  The fact that the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess sold better then Minish Cap says it all.

Mario is a game that's easier to just pick up and play when you're at a bus station, or wherever. The problem with Zelda is it involves a lot more time and focus becuase you are out exploring and whatnot.

Mario is a brand name though; a recent poll had just about 90% of the USA know who Mario is by image alone both gamers and non.

Sony & MS really don't have mascots (Sony did in it's early days with Crash but ending up killing the series and MS's attempts haven't done much).

So why non-gamers buy a system they grab what's fimilar and that's Mario :0.

Master Chief isn't E rated :).  That's why MS produced all those kiddie friendly titles like Blink, Voodoo Vince, Pinta series, ect.   Sony kinda dropped it's own mascots like Sly Copper in favor of Katos.  Again they needed something more E rated so they made that Little beany guy in LBP.

Microsoft has long had its own mascots. They include a talking paperclip and the colorful windows logo.

All they need is to have their own video games on the 360.

Crash was never SONY's mascot (they never owned the character, they just published the early games.), it was unofficially the PlayStation's mascot though. Sony for a few weeks in 1995 did have a mascot though called Polygonman (although when Sony Computer Entertainment Japan found out about SCEA doing this, they basically told them to stop saying this was their mascot).
