Nintendo Gaming / RE: More love for the Revolution!!!!
« on: November 17, 2005, 03:57:11 PM »
It's not so impossible. really. Conker Reloaded was a flop. So was that ghost game. Kameo isn't getting particularly good reviews, and PDZero seems pretty lackluster, according to those who've played it. Maybe Microsoft'll put Rare up for sale.. Not that I can see why Nintendo would want it... Rare's last good game was probably Banjo-Tooie. And all their FPS talent went to the Timesplitters team.

Very good idea, especially with all the ESRB crap lately (Thank you very much, Jack Thompson). Unfortunately, it'll just give the MS/Sony fanboys another reason to say "lol ur kons0l iz kidie."

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Mario Party Revolution
« on: November 12, 2005, 10:21:13 AM »
Mario Party is fun. That said, I've only played the original and 3. I think that Nintendo should just hold off on Mario Party until a little bit into Revolution's lifecycle.

Oh, and also..... Wario Party. It'd be Wario Ware but a bunch of multiplayer online stuff. See who gets the best score. >_>

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Jim Merrick, once again, with some new bites of info
« on: November 11, 2005, 02:50:00 PM »
Okay, people, I'll go over this again. Next-gen games are basically on the same level as recent PC games. I have never seen a game that requires much more than 4.3GB (DVD5 = 4.3GB). Let me run through a little list.

FEAR is 4.6GB. And it's barely compressed.
Black and White 2 is only 3GB.
Battlefield 2 is 1.9GB.
Half-Life 2 is 3.5GB.

These are some of the largest and best looking games out, and you know what? There's no real need yet to make the move to DVD9, nevermind Blu-Ray.

Frankly, about HD? It doesn't matter. I am entirely used to playing Half-Life 2 at 1280x1024 pixels on my laptop, but one day I plugged it into my non-high def-TV, and it looked fine.  I really didn't notice too much of a quality difference. Yes, really really small text is harder to read, but that's it. Also, rendering at smaller resolutions takes a *significant* load off of the GPU. So, basically, restricting Revolution to smaller resolutions (lol teh rhymes) will actually give it potentially better framerates, if not better texture quality and shaders.

Nintendo Gaming / GBA is getting Final Fantasy IV/II, too! (Screenies!)

(Gamespot sucks, I agree, but it's the first place I found the pics.)

Jesus christ, Square seems to be giving Nintendo a lot of handheld love lately!

Yeah, it's pretty old, sorry

But still, I'm amazed they're breaking away from the mold. And it's being co-dev'd with HAL. Can't be too bad. (It'd be better if they just got rid of 252-351, though )

TalkBack / RE: Revolution Specs to Never be Revealed?
« on: November 02, 2005, 03:17:38 AM »
Meh. The specs will get out sooner or later. I mean, they've already told us the name of the CPU and the GPU (Broadway and Hollywood), so it shows that they are at least going to show off something about the specs.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Killer Games
« on: November 01, 2005, 10:31:20 AM »
A killer app? How about (ohmigosh) a Nintendo-developed StarFox Revolution? That would be orgasmic. Assault was okay, but it didn't really feel like StarFox. Or, of course, the infamous Pokemon MMORPG idea...

Guy playing HL2 Deathmatch with a one-handed Playstation controller and a Gyration mouse. (No, the mouse can't detect where in 3D space it is, but it can most certainly use tilting and such.)

Anyway, just wanted to point this out for those of you who are like me and want to see what it'll look like when it's in action.

TalkBack / RE: Sudoku Coming to Game Boy Advance
« on: October 19, 2005, 04:42:55 AM »
Yup, my father and my math teacher are both addicted to Sudoku. (In fact, he's decided to devote an entire class tomorrow to Sudoku instead of regular stuff. Go figure.)

But wouldn't this be much more suited to DS?

TalkBack / RE: Revolution in
« on: October 18, 2005, 06:41:16 AM »
Let's face it: The DS launch was extremely weak. I'd rather wait for quality games then have crap right now. (I'm looking at you, EA!)

That said, the casual gamer market just doesn't give a scheisse about Nintendo anymore. Nintendo needs to show everybody that this controller is worth waiting for. And they've done a very bad job of it so far. They've only shown demos of it in use to a select portion of the media. Even I - Somebody who has never owned a console not made by Nintendo - am considering buying an X360 (If PD0 is any good).

It's just a really bad situation that Nintendo is in. And they need to get out of it. How? Simple. Prove to everybody that this controller will not be a "g-i-m-m-i-c-k" (to quote PSP fanboys), but something amazing. Something that'll make you wonder how you ever lived without it. And the best way to do that would be to make tech demos for the public to watch. Hell, I'd be happy just watching Metroid Prime Echoes be played with the controller, frankly.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo Wi-Fi Menu Details Exposed
« on: October 15, 2005, 02:15:10 PM »
Interesting. It looks sort of like the DS's main menu (especially the background), but with nicer looking buttons. I'd betcha that we'll see a BIOS flash or something included with any new online games. Which means there's hope for an online Pictochat. Which means there's hope for anti-aliased lines! Whoamg!

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Zelda Touch
« on: October 06, 2005, 03:45:00 AM »
I think it should be 2D, but with a 3D engine, e.g. Super Smash Brothers. What advantage would it give you? Absolutely nothing, but we have 3D hardware, why not use it? >_>

TalkBack / RE: Official Buffalo Statement on Nintendo Wi-Fi
« on: October 06, 2005, 03:33:19 AM »
Even though Buffalo is just releasing the software for Windows XP, I have no doubt in my mind that somebody or another will come up with a kernel module for Linux or OS X. (Especially since I seem to remember a poll where >20% of Nintendo system owners used a Mac as their main home computer.)

And besides that, the fact is that this is an extremely cheap little router. Maybe it'll become popular for non-Nintendo usage as well?

This was just discovered four days ago in this GameShark code forum. All I can say is: This could've been the greatest easter egg in the history of video games. Oh well. ;_;

« on: October 05, 2005, 05:55:28 PM »
As for the USB device's cost, it'll supposedly come optionally bundled with Mario Kart DS, with the entire thing being $50. $15 for a router? Not bad.

Nintendo Gaming / New Miyamato interview (with new info!)
« on: October 03, 2005, 10:54:40 AM »
Engadget/Joystiq Miyamato interview

Summary of new Revolution stuff:

"We’ve got something that would be very similar in style and form to the Wave Bird already complete." Sounds like it won't have any new buttons or anything, no new functionality, besides the Revolution motion/gyro tracking.

"The one advantage we have in this area is that the Revolution development can actually be done on the Game Cube development environment." Explanation of why we haven't heard anything about Revolution SDKs going out yet - They're already here.

Nothing else really new, but just pointing it out. The SDK comment is pretty important, personally, in terms of game development and in terms of what the  hardware'll be like.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: rev vs 360 price
« on: September 30, 2005, 03:25:51 AM »
You guys have to remember that GameCube, while smaller than the other two consoles, was right up there with them in terms of capability. I mean, it's actually more powerful than PS2. I think Revolution'll be right up there with the other two as well.
