I'm sorry, but that is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. The people are not to blame for putting their faith and dollar into the company. If any faith is lost in a company from the consumers point of view, it is the companies obligation to set things straight. We have every right to these games, and I won't be told otherwise.
Hmm...

No one forced these people to put their hard earned cash down for a system that Nintendo rushed to market. Every early adopter who purchased a 3DS did so willingly and should have with full knowledge that those features were missing. And if they didn't, that's their fault anyway because there's this thing called the internet and one of the most popular websites on this internet is called Google which lets you search for things that you are not knowledgeable about. If Helen Keller was alive today, I bet even she would know how to use Google. I have no sympathy for anyone who purchased a 3DS and was disappointed in what it had to offer initially. I know that sounds harsh but there were no delusions about what was available on 3DS. None. People should know what they're getting into when they surrender $250 to buy something. Otherwise, don't buy it. This isn't complicated. I scoffed at the price when 3DS was announced and I didn't buy one until Nintendo dropped it to something I was comfortable paying. Nintendo just happened to drop the price far sooner than I ever expected them too.

No one deserves these games because Nintendo didn't have to offer them. Early adopters paid money on something that they felt, at the time, was worth it. If they changed their tune, that's on them. It's called buyer's remorse. Early adopters aren't entitled to compensation. That never happens. Nintendo just did a really nice thing. If someone buys an unsatisfactory product knowing that it's unsatisfactory, he/she is entirely responsible for that decision. People can't just pass the buck on the maker of that product because they made a shitty choice in life. Just like people aren't entitled to these games; Nintendo isn't entitled to anyone's money. People freely gave it to them. With the Ambassador Program, Nintendo isn't so much as righting a wrong as it is acting on good faith. They could have dropped the price and just said, "Suck it." They know their fan base. Anyone who would claim to boycott Nintendo is totally full of ****. After all, they did buy a half-assed system just because it said Nintendo on it...
Its like your mother going ahead and giving all your brother and sisters a lollipop when she promised all of you one this week without confirming your still getting a lollipop.
That's only unfair if you don't get a lollipop. But, we ARE getting these games so I don't get what all the complaining is for. If we get these games tomorrow, can we just drop this and enjoy all of the free **** we're getting?
Smell what I am steppin' in AdCrock?
I see what you did there.........(exaggerated elipses)........

+1

Anyway, what "lack of communication" or "communication breakdown"? What part of "the Ambassador program games will be available before the end of the year" is so difficult to understand? Last time I checked, it's still 2011. Wait, let me check again. Yes, it's still 2011.

The sense of entitlement coming from some of you guys is astounding. Nintendo told us months ago when to expect these games. That time period has not passed yet so what is there to complain about? The truth is that many 3DS owners are getting FREE games. Instead of worrying about something you'll probably get tomorrow, be glad Nintendo is giving you all of these nice things when all you did was buy something you already wanted. So, yeah, I'm calling shenanigans on anyone who's whining like a petulant child because Nintendo of America hasn't announced the release yet. They're coming. While you're waiting for them, watch Louis CK's "Everything is amazing and nobody is happy" because some of you sound like that.

Anyone feeling salty over the availability of a bunch of free downloads needs to simmer the hell down. No one was entitled to these games. They were an act of goodwill from Nintendo to their customers. You either bought a 3DS without expecting any kind of compensation and therefore because you simply wanted a 3DS or you circumvented the program and got the price cut too. Either way, the Ambassador games are bonuses. They're coming and before the end of the year (most likely before the end of the week) as promised months ago. You're getting something for nothing, something none of us deserve but are getting anyway. And you waited this long. Would you give it another day or two?

Star Fox could stand to be less serious and should steer away from realistic graphics as much as possible.

I liked the ideas that suggested by Lithium a page back. The puppet style art direction would make Star Fox stand out. It'd be a good way of semi-rebooting the series. And if Nintendo could find the talent to pull off a Fantastic Mr. Star Fox or a self-referencing parody, they should totally go for it. At this point, I'm pretty much willing to accept anything that isn't furry melodrama.

What an amazing haul. I'm excited to play Yoshi's Island again and to try Kirby.

And I saved $80. Everything is coming up Milhouse.

Correct. This is all the proof you need that a second slide pad wont be included whenever they end up releasing a revision.
As I said earlier, it's cheaper for Nintendo to include it in a revision. Otherwise, they would need to make a Circle Pad Pro Plus (or whatever it'd be called) for the revision. I doubt Nintendo is going to go out of their way and spend more money just to show people that it's only for select games. It makes more sense for Nintendo to add probably less than $1 to manufacturing costs to build it into the unit and have a lonely, unused right slide pad for most games. Done and done. And if a 3rd party was able to force Nintendo to release the peripheral, I'm sure they could convince them to have it built in future revisions.

I'm okay either way. I don't plan on buying the add-on. I'm just pointing out that there are no positives in not including it in a revision. It might as well be there. As far as I know, not a single 1st party title supports the peripheral and most games will likely not require it by having a (probably shittier) single slide pad control mode.

Even if the right slide pad remains optional for the entirety of the 3DS'sesses life, any revision will likely include it built in. Nintendo wouldn't build a different sized add-on for each revision when it would be cheaper for them to just make it part of the revision itself and leave it up to developers to support it or not.

Anyway, I'd only buy a Control Pad Pro if it came packed with a game I wanted and that was the only way I could get the game, similar to how Wii Sports Resort was originally sold. I still don't have Resort so that's probably a good indication of how acquiring a CPP is going to play out.

I recall reading that quite a few executives hated the name Wii and voted against it. Still, the reasoning behind the name (one syllable, easy to remember) and having a worldwide brand makes sense.

7036
If GameStop reached out to Nintendo and is helping pay for publishing, GameStop deserves the most credit. As much as I dislike GameStop, I would have to give credit where credit is due.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U has quad core 3GHz CPU, 768 MB of RAM

Nintendo dropped "Gameboy." I know why they did but the point is that there's precedence for letting go of a popular brand. A truly great product can stand on its own even if being attached to a brand helps. Nintendo made Wii popular. They made a lot of brands popular. I see no reason why thy couldn't do so again.

And I don't think Nintendo will actually change the name. I just don't think there's anything inherently wrong with Stream. As I've said before, I think the best name is the most boring one, just so everyone would stop talking about it.

Yeah, I got it. What I don't get is why it matters or more specifically, why you think it makes a difference. They're still just dick and fart jokes. One simply requires a pinch more effort to pull off.

There's barely even a joke with Stream. You would have to say pee stream for there to even be a punchline. Otherwise, you're just explaining the joke and it's not one at that point. And since that's the case, you can just do that with anything. You can add a modifier to any word to turn it into something else. You say Stream to people and they'll most likely think of music first. In fact, that might be the most problematic thing about naming a console "Stream." It'd sound like Nintendo is trying to make an iTunes-killer.

In any case, people got over Wii pretty quickly. It still sounds silly but it's there. It's a part of pop culture and vernacular. No one even really thinks about it unless it's brought up on a message board and even then, it's between people who accept that exists and people who are still railing against it even after 5 years.

I'm simply of the idea that if you can come up with a name that doesn't allow for easy juvenile jokes, why not?  Why go with the pee joke name if you don't have to?  It probably won't matter but it COULD.  The Wii name COULD have been a PR disaster so why not cover your butt and play it safe?  You certainly have nothing to gain from a stupid name so why risk it?  Doesn't Nintendo do a good enough job making things harder for themselves for no reason?
But you can turn anything into a juvenile joke. That's what makes them juvenile and ultimately, not funny since it appeals to the lowest common denominator. We're not talking sharp humor here. We're talking about dick and fart jokes and bad ones at that.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
« on: December 12, 2011, 02:10:32 PM »
Zelda, for me, is not about stealth or anything like that, the most Zelda had Pre-Wind Waker was dodging wall masters in quick sequences.
Ocarina of Time had sneaking into Hyrule castle to speak to Zelda and freeing the carpenters in the Gerudo Fortress.

Stealth in Zelda just hasn't really been done well. You don't get to make a last stand if you're caught; you just start over. With no real consequences, I can't justify these segments as anything but filler getting in the way of the parts I want to play.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

One main issue I will contend with is the complaining about the silent realm.  Those were some of the most fun parts of the game to me, as it basically boiled down to a time-trial, so even if you don't like them, they're usually over quick enough to where you don't have to endure them too long.
I find it odd for a game with the word "sword" in the title to have several section were they take it away from you and leave you completely defenseless. You don't get to fight the coolest looking enemies in the game.

And I'm just so tired of collecting **** in games. It's not creative or especially fun. Zelda games are getting more and more annoying with this. If Nintendo nixed all of the filler collect-a-thons, Skyward Sword would probably still be a 40 hour game. In fact, they could stand to cut a few of the dungeons because they weren't terribly interesting. Even at 40 hours, the game is probably too long.

I just finished the 5th dungeon and got tired of playing. I'm about 30 hours in. Same problem as Twilight Princess. The game is too long and there's a lot of filler. There's a whole section where you're looking for the dungeon and you make a stop at a building where you do nothing except play a mini-game then fight a boss you fought earlier. Then, Robot Fi is like, "I've determined that there are no more things here. We should go now." What the **** was the point of that? I'm having trouble getting through the game. I wish Nintendo would spend significantly less development time making a shorter, tighter game. Zelda wasn't always about collecting nick-nacks. They need to go back to focusing on exploration and adventure. I don't need a 70 hour game to feel like I explored a fictional world.

And Jesus Christ on a crutch, the character and boss designs are awful in this game.

Under normal circumstance "Stream" wouldn't necessarily be associated with urine.  However as the follow up to the "Wii"?  Yeah I think the jokes write themselves and damn near everyone I know regardless of age made fun of the name, even as they were loving the **** out of Wii Sports.
You're acting like that would sully the word forever. I really don't see it becoming an internet meme. And the most important thing about your post is that damn near everyone you know was "loving the ****" out of Wii Sports. So, even if they mocked the name, someone spent money on a Wii to buy it. That's like going to a restaurant and enjoying a meal, all the while saying, "This is ****." It just makes those people look like assholes. But, hey, it's free publicity and Nintendo made their money and probably didn't get their feelings hurt from the insults.

"Stream" is like playing into the hands of everyone who made pee jokes about the Wii (ie: everybody).  It is an incredibly stupid name.
The pee jokes were just sophomoric. That doesn't represent everybody. That's like saying the idiots who said "Gaycube" represented everyone. The problem with Wii is that using it in a sentence makes you sound like a re-tard. Nintendo just invented a homophone and modern language was far worse for it.

Stream is a real word. It would just be a proper noun if Nintendo used it. How many people associate media streaming with urine? We use the word "stream" without even thinking about it these days because we stream data over the internet everyday. It's just part of our vernacular. I don't think that ever sounded as awkward in conversation as Wii did and still does. Making pee jokes with "stream" is even more of a stretch than "wee/Wii." When I hear the word "stream", I first think of Netflix, then a body of water with a current, then Ghostbusters. I think Nintendo Stream is a better name than Wii U because it describes the really unique thing the console does and you can use it in a sentence without feeling like you said something wrong. Unless the console came in yellow, I think Nintendo would be just fine with that name.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U has quad core 3GHz CPU, 768 MB of RAM

I like Stream more than Wii U. It's easier to say. In the interest of simplicity, Nintendo should adopt a numbering system for naming their consoles. Nintendo 6 is generic and boring but it gets the point across. It's so plain that it begs to be ignored in favor of what the console actually does and is capable of. I find it sad that the name generates far more discussion that the controller. I've accepted Wii U. Sure, it sounds silly but it's hardly an issue to me because in conversation, I refer to playing a specific game rather than the console the game is on. I just think the naming "controversy" could have been avoided if Nintendo picked something that simply got out of the way so that the really important thing about their new hardware would be the focus.

I finished the Ancient Cistern last night then putzed around Skyloft doing quests because I'm dreading the next Silent Realm. I'm 1 more Monster Horn away from getting the best shield I can get in the game at this point though I rarely use the shield anyway. I would have played more but I wanted to watch something while eating dinner and I started 30 Rock and was hooked. Then, I heard about the Chris Paul non-trade and so I was distracted from advancing any further in the game.

7047
Steampunk Zelda would be the jumping the shark moment for the series IMO.
Really? Steampunk? That is jumping the shark... That and not the talking boat, talking bird hat, robots or magic railroad tracks? Right. Whatever you say.

7048
A few things I'd like to see

1. Nintendo admitting that Link no longer conveys the player's emotion because the game keeps telling players how to feel. That means Link is a character of his own. He should probably speak now. There absolutely is a disconnect between Link and the player but that's okay. Nintendo even defaults his name as Link. I don't need to be Link. However, I can relate to his adventure by watching him react to the world. It's just pooly executed when Nintendo insists that these are my emotions when they clearly are not.

2. Steampunk Hyule.

3. Stop giving me both the slingshot and bow. They do the same thing and the bow is cooler.

4. Stop trying to be a Zelda game and just be a Zelda game. Nintendo doesn't have to feel obligated to adhere to 25 years of tradition just to get the fundamentals right.

5. Fetch quests stopped being fun... Wait, they were never fun. Knock it off. No need to pad the game if 20 hours tells a complete story and is the best 20 hours of Zelda ever created. Quality over quantity. Nintendo practically invented that phrase.

6. Thanks for the origin story. Now, reboot the series so things can make sense. Even if it's a one-off.

I have small hands and I find myself getting a little cramped playing the game, particularly holding an item behind me. Otherwise, I'm having fun with the game. Only 150CC has been unfairly difficult. I got hit with a blue shell right before the finish line in one race in Mushroom Cup 100CC and got 2nd place. 100CC isn't much harder than 50CC.

I really like the track design in this game. It lacks the really annoying curvy sections from the DS and Wii games. I like curves on my women, not my Mario Kart tracks.

I'm disappointed in the Rainbow Road Music remix in this game. Honestly, it's only been really good in Mario Kart 64.
