Nintendo Gaming / Free Radical Design Console Poll
« on: September 03, 2007, 10:49:27 PM »
"The guys and girls over at Free Radical Design have a poll running right now that lets
you vote for your favourite next gen system. Right now, the PS3 is in the lead, with the X360 as the runner up, and the Wii is sadly enough in last place.

In most of the earlier polls, Wii has always been pretty dominant, and I think it would be sad to see this change!
We need to show ourselves and our interest in both Wii and Free Radical if we want them to put TimeSplitters 4 on the Wii!
Please go vote!"

Well, who knows what could happen as a result? It certainly wouldn't hurt to vote, would it?

That's expected. I don't see why anyone should be surprised --- the GBA served a long, healthy life. It's purpose was not in vain. 5-6-7 years, however you put it, that's a huge dent considering the massive sales! The DS continues the legacy.

Nope.

Get Planet Puzzle League instead. A sorely underrepresented game, the series gets its due recognition with the DS version.

Touch control enables more dynamic control of the panels.

Wi-fi battle anyone across the world, with voice-chat even.

Multi-player local, including single-cart download play..

Daily puzzles...

Just look it up and you'll see.

MARKETABILITY:

The DS has to go neck to neck with the PSP. Average Consumer Joe wouldn't take the DS as serious if it's games came in (perceived) cheap, cardboard boxes. (Read: Nintendo doesn't want the perception that the DS is just another Gameboy.)

"Heck, PSP games come in DVD-like cases... DS games come in them too. Hmmmmmmmm... Decisions."

For the more informed lot, it wouldn't matter, cardboard or plastic.

However, I prefer plastic as it makes for a nicer display piece. Yeah, I'm OCD like that -- my inner-collector at work. I mean, if DVDs and PSP games get the treatment...

Euroland DS cases are thicker to accomodate multiple languages if I'm not mistaken.

North American Gamecube cases came in standard size as it would frustrate the consumers over here in the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico if they couldn't put their games in the same storage rack as other platform games and DVD movies. Japan, however, seeing that the 3 inch media is physically smaller, "necessitates" smaller packaging (smaller country, space is a premium, etc.) This doesn't carry over to the DS due to it being region free.

EBA does in fact have 19 songs. According to wikipedia.com, but by no means fact, four of the songs in Ouendan 2 are original versions.

I am curious as to single-cart multiplayer on OTO2. I think one player just sets up a game (as normal) and then the other has to go to DS download play, wherein the host game and DS will detect it and send out, though I'm not sure.

I do. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles has some of the most STELLAR VG music I've ever heard. David Wise's work on the DKC series is memorable as well. Of course, great music is nothing without complimentary great gameplay, and the DKC series and FFCC both provided (although, DKCs were deeper experiences altogether).

Nintendo Gaming / RE:2000 Wii points = 25€?
« on: February 25, 2007, 05:16:17 AM »
Wii Points cards are priced (here in the U.S.) at $20 for 2000 points. Nintendo gets all the money; there is no profit left for the seller. You're probably thinking, "hey, they're being greedy!" Actually, not quite. Apple does the same with iTunes Music Store cards. Possibly Microsoft with the XBM cards, as well. So how does this all work out? Well, if you get a customer to walk into the store and buy a card, then there's a possibility (s)he may buy other products within the place. That's the hope anyhow. Redemption cards are really provided at a convenience, that's all. Some stores do mark them up to make profit though.

Also, Euros =/= USD, etc. You'd be surprised, but Japan is actually paying LESS than the U.S.A. for points. Historically, Japan always pays more for its games, but that's the market. Anyhow, I'm not bickering.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Panel de Pon for DS!!
« on: February 21, 2007, 11:29:26 AM »
I agree. This game is largely underrated. Such a disgrace that people would not give this game a chance. It has much more strategy than vanilla Tetris does and the action certainly gets hectic. Your fingers will receive a workout.

Honestly, no one I know (school, friends, family, etc.) has played this game. SAD.

Well I read that RE Wii is a proper RE game like RE 5 is, but I don't know if that means it's a canon title, or just plays like a normal RE game.

It's supposed to be set in between Veronica and 4, so it will probably deal with the fall of Umbrella, which was only mentioned in passing at the start of the 4th game. It's being produced by Masachika Kawata, aka the guy who did the port of RE4 to the PS2... so my hopes aren't that high sadly.

If you're implying that the PS2 RE4 "sucked" in any way due to misdirection by Masachika Kawata, then you're wrong. The only inferiorities were all hardware-based or -limited. Loading times took longer just because the PS2 is simply like that. The graphics and visuals took a slight punch in the gut simply because the PS2 has a weaker CPU. Lighting effects and related  suchedness were combed down for the same reason. So I don't see why you would blame that guy for the PS2 RE4 port being bad.

But that's under my assumption that you're blaming him for that anyhow.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:I hope "Secret Rings" doesn't suck...
« on: January 19, 2007, 03:47:39 PM »
The great thing about this all is:

IF SONIC AND THE SECRET RINGS FAILS -- we can blame it on Sega for not utilizing the remote properly AND we can chalk it up to Sega's generally weak output during these past years.

IF SONIC AND THE SECRET RINGS WINS -- we can herald Sega for bringing it back AND Nintendo gets kudos for providing the means for Sega to reach it (the remote)

Parodius
Donshin the Giant
Giftpia
KuruKuru Kururin

All games that made it from Japan to Europe.

Coincidence? Nah. They're simply too cute for America. America needs EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEME characters and those just cut the mustard. They're gheeey and lack in-your-face attitude.

Sarcasm aside, general Americans (and possibly Canadians) would let the cute factor override common sense that, despite a "non-standard" exterior, it still has the potential to be a MIGHTY FINE GAME.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wii Digital Audio??
« on: August 18, 2006, 03:10:38 PM »
"You left out the fact that the mass public would want DD or DTS over DLPII by a strong majority and not having DD will IMO(though the mass public may not notice) be a bigger blow to the system than no HD for the sole fact that it will be a pretty horrible dvd player without it."

By now, it's largely evident that Nintendo will release some kind of dongle adaptor for the Wii that will allow DVD playback. Licensing fees for the MPEG (DVD), Dolby Digital, (and maybe DTS) capabilities, while not exceedingly high, are nevertheless another spot where Nintendo can cut costs and allow consumers to decide if they want this extra functionality. For such a dongle, there is no question that Nintendo will include decoders for the above technologies. And with digital audio support for DVD playback, it is only obvious to include an optical output jack. I fully believe Nintendo will do this. Heck, it can work just like the XBOX 360 HD-DVD add-on in that it hooks up through USB and has an extra USB port on the add-on itself to compensate for the used one.
