Nintendo is bundling a Nintendo DS game with their upcoming set of trading cards.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/27056

In the latest version of Pokémon Card Game, a special Nintendo DS game will be included to act as a tutorial.

The tutorial game is called Pokémon Card Game Asobikata DS, which translates to How to Play Pokémon Card Game in English. The game can be played against the CPU, and it also includes a quiz mode and a rule dictionary.

The bundle will also come packaged with three 30 card decks, a play matt, and a damage counter.

This new bundle will be available in Japan on August 5, priced at ¥2,980.

Wish this was for the 3DS.  Allow you to display the play field using AR.  Also allow you to "store" your cards.  Then allow for battles using 3DS of two Pokemon cards players.  That be very cool
The Cart would of course have no Pokemon card single player but maybe online play.  Be like Magic: The Gathering Online back in the day.

Why not just release the TCG game for GB on 3DS VC (they'll probably do this anyway)? The game hasn't changed that much.

Since the card game at the time of the GBC game's release was developed by Wizards of the Coast. As I recall, the split was not what one would call amicable.

True, the day after the contract between Nintendo (while, it's Pokemon USA subsidiary) and Wizards of the Coast ended and Nintendo announced they would not renew it, WOTC filed a lawsuit. They settled the case two months later before it went to court, and I am not sure WOTC would have any influence over whether Nintendo could re-release the GBC game.

It would matter because I'm pretty sure the game has the WotC Logo and that they are the licensee.  At the very least those would have to be stripped.

There are a few people at NST dedicated to doing just that for such games.
