« on: June 16, 2011, 09:24:25 AM »

The eShop receives its first official update, while the Wii sees two new games and a demo.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26849

With the opening of the eShop last week, Nintendo has decided to move Nintendo Download to Thursdays. That means from now on, the Wii Shop Channel, DSiWare Store, and Nintendo eShop will all update on Thursdays, with new titles going live at 9 a.m. Pacific time on the same day.

This week's update brings a slew of new titles, including Mega Man 5 for Virtual Console and Donkey Kong for the Nintendo eShop.

Mega Man 5, originally for the NES, is the first Virtual Console game Wii has received since late May. This is the sixth game in the series to arrive on the service, and those who want to play as the Blue Bomber once again can pick up the game for 500 Nintendo Points.

The Wii Shop Channel has yet another new game this week. Developed by Sandlot Games, Snail Mail appears to be a hybrid racing and action game. It contains over 50 levels in Postal mode, as well as a Challenge mode and a Time Trials mode. You can check out a video of the game here.

Rounding out this week's new content is a demo of BIT.TRIP FLUX on the Wii Shop Channel, available for free for a limited time.

On the handheld side of things, the eShop sees a new retro title in the form of Donkey Kong for Game Boy. In this updated version of the classic arcade game, Donkey Kong has once again kidnapped Pauline and it is up to Mario to save her from distress.

The Nintendo DSiWare Store also sees four new titles, which include Gold Fever, Zimo: Mahjong Fanatic, Hidden Photo, and Beach Party Craze.

Kathy Beth Terry and Rebecca Black party to Just Dance in Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" music video.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26841

Earlier this year it was confirmed that Ubisoft would be sponsoring Katy Perry's California Dreams Tour, which has already swept through Europe and will arrive in North America this summer. Now they have taken their promotion to a whole new level in Katy Perry's new music video for her current single, "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).

In the retro music video, Katy Perry can be seen partying with none other than Ms. Friday herself, Rebecca Black. After a dorky version of Katy Perry sneaks out and heads to Rebecca's party, the dynamic duo can be seen partying with their friends while playing Just Dance 2. The video ends with Katy Perry waking up and explaining her messy home to her parents, whom are none too pleased with what went down the night before.

Katy Perry's Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) music video leaked over the weekend, and after being uploaded to her VEVO account, has generated over ten million views. The insane hype around the video is sure to bring even more attention to Ubisoft's already popular Just Dance series.

You can watch the video in all its glory below. If you would like to purchase the music video, you can hop on over to iTunes, or you can simply choose to purchase the song, which is available for $1.29 on iTunes.

TalkBack / Official Super Pokémon Scramble Site Opened
« on: June 15, 2011, 10:03:04 AM »

All five generations of Pokémon will be available this time around.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26830

With Super Pokémon Scramble's release date just over a month away in Japan, Nintendo has opened an official site for the game today. Along with new information on the game, the site also includes the first trailer of the game.

Super Pokémon Scramble plays very similar to its WiiWare predecessor in which players take control of a wind-up Pokémon and battle through waves of wild Pokémon. The stages are played overhead, and at the end of every stage is a boss Pokémon, which is usually a larger form of a legendary Pokémon, though sometimes it can just be an evolved form of an already encountered Pokémon.

Unlike Pokémon Rumble, Super Pokémon Scramble will feature every single Pokémon to date, from the first generation to the fifth.

The game also also utilizes the wireless capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS. Two players can team up wirelessly and play the game's stages cooperatively. The SpotPass feature is also utilized to allow players to find their friend's Miis and Pokémon in their copy of the game.

Super Pokémon Scrambles releases in Japan on July 27 and retails for ¥4,800.

Hideki Konno explains the reason behind the handheld's vintage touchscreen technology.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26777

Even though the Nintendo 3DS is a much more powerful piece of hardware than its predecessor, the system still uses the same resistive touchscreen as the original Nintendo DS.

In an interview with Joystiq, Hideki Konno, who worked as a hardware producer on the handheld, revealed the reason for the same old touchscreen technology is because of the original Nintendo DS.

When asked about the subject, he responded by saying:

"Really, it's all about the backwards compatibility. We have to play DS games on this and we want to make sure they work. Now that technology may come out sometime in the future, but when we were making our decision on what kind of touchscreen to implement," he said, "that was one of the deciding factors."

Even though that explains as to why the Nintendo 3DS bears the same older touchscreen as its predecessor, it fails to explain as to why the Wii U uses the same technology.

TalkBack / More Super Pokémon Scramble Details Emerge
« on: June 12, 2011, 01:34:44 AM »

Even more new information has been released regarding Super Pokémon Scramble

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26755

Earlier this week we reported that the Nintendo 3DS would be getting its first retail Pokémon game this summer in the form of Super Pokémon Scramble. At the time not many details were known, but since then, tidbits of information have been gradually released.

In Super Pokémon Scramble, players visit a variety of different areas to obtain new Pokémon, much like in Pokémon Rumble for the WiiWare service. By defeating other Pokémon you can add new ones to your team. The game also has the ability to allow players to obtain new Pokémon through communication with other players who have the game.

At the end of each stage is a boss, which ranges from evolved forms of some Pokémon to legendary Pokémon. Players can teach their Pokémon stronger moves as well, to make the boss battles easier.

There are several different modes available this time around: Charge Battle, Battle Royal and Pokémon Collection Battle Challenge Mode are some of the few announced. Charge Battle has you playing against groups of ten other Pokémon whereas Pokémon Collection Battle Challenge Mode lets players battle all the Pokémon that they have collected.

The game will also take advantage of the StreetPass feature of the Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo's global president cannot understand why the company's stock has declined over the past few days.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26735

Shares in Nintendo fell nearly 10 percent following the announcement of the Wii U on Tuesday.

The decline left some people puzzled, including Satoru Iwata. In an interview with Reuters, Mr. Iwata commented on the drop by saying:

"Honestly speaking, the reaction to (Tuesday's) presentation and what I heard from people I met and the mood of the convention did not chime at all with what happened in the stock market. It's very strange."

Nintendo, however, realizes the obstacles that they have to overcome with the Wii U. One of their main goals for the console is to attract both casual users who jumped on with the Wii, as well as core gamers, many of whom wandered away from their current console.

"At the moment, there is a barrier between the Wii, which is seen as for casual users and the other companies' consoles, which are seen as for core gamers. We are questioning whether that barrier needs to be there," said Iwata.

The Wii U will be released sometime in 2012.

TalkBack / Retailers Reveal New Details Regarding Pandora's Tower
    « on: April 13, 2011, 03:08:28 PM »

New details arise concerning the game's control scheme.

    http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/26056

With Pandora's Tower due out in Japan next month, retailers have begun sharing new tidbits of information regarding Nintendo's new Wii title.

Pandora's Tower supports numerous control schemes. Players can choose to play the game in a traditional way using the Classic Controller or by using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. When using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk combination, the Wii Remote acts as a chain, thereby making players feel as though they are actually swinging a chain. The Classic Controller, as one would expect, relies on button-based combinations.

The main character of the game, Ende, uses a chain as his primary weapon. This item can be used to tear flesh from beasts that he comes into contact with, as well as to manipulate switches. The game's heroine, Ceres, requires the flesh of beasts in order to survive a curse, which is slowly transforming her mind and body into a beast.

Retailers have also revealed that the game is an "exploration-style action RPG," thereby causing some to speculate as to whether or not it is similar to the Metroid or Castlevania series. The game features thirteen towers, and a boss lies at the end of each tower.

Pandora's Tower is set for a May 26 release in Japan. The game is rated C by CERO.
